I used to use a VSX-D1S (still have it), but after 19 years of hard usage I figured it needed to take a rest (it still works great, with the limitation that all the HD video input switching had to be done on the TV).

The sound of the SC-05 is superb for watching concerts in Stereo Mode (I don't like using surround except for movies), although it appears to lack a little punch, compared to the D1S. Perhaps it's because I use it without a subwoofer, although I really shouldn't need one, considering that my main speakers are 16" with large cabinets. I'll likely get it right in the end, after a bit more tinkering (so many controls to set).

This is a great reciever and I picked it up for a great price. I am using this for my 7.1 home theater system. I have it hooked up to two polk vm30's for my fronts, 1 polk vm20 center, 4 polk vm10's for surround and a polk ds400 subwoofer. I will be purchasing a niles 12 channel amp for speakers that are in other rooms. I couldnt have asked for a better product. Pioneer creates excellent products!

The Pioneer Elite SC-05 is the best sounding receiver I have ever heard. Nothing can compare to the ICE POWER class D amp. The sound from the HD codecs (Dolby True HD & DTS HD Master) is absolutely stunning on this receiver! An excellent purchase at a wonderful low price!
