I am using the 5400ES as a processor for driving my five 15 year old Sony ES amps and using the integrated amp for the 6th 7th channel. Additionally, I am using the integrated amp for stereo sound on my patio. It all works together beautifully! The sound quality exceeds that of my 9 year old 5.1 Sony ES processor.

I looked at many systems including the STR-DA6400ES and determined this was the best option. though the 6400 had some additional features, the fact is you'd never put them to use. I bought this receiver to be hub for two rooms and have connected xboxes, a media center pc, a popcorn hour, etc. Once you start connecting these types of devices much of the specialization doesnt come from the receiver (just good sounds, lots of HDMI ports, etc) but from the devices themselves.

I am very happy with this model, you will be too.
