Had this for about two months. [...] Free extra 3-year warranty is good. I am very pleased so far. Not really sure why some people complain about the remote. It is better than Yamaha's older remotes and I have no problem using it. More HDMI's inputs would be nice, but you can get an HDMI multiplier for very low cost.

I use this product for my main home theater system. I have connected this to my AT&T Uverse HD Cable, Samsung BDP3600 blu-ray player, Xbox 360, Sony PS3, Magic Mic karaoke, and the occasional laptop connection.
The YPAO optimizer algorithm has been improved. My 465 used to think that my left and right satellites were large speakers. I also noticed that it now emits a different series of sounds, which I'm assuming is for a more accurate calibration.
The Zone 2 controls are more intuitive now. The 465 had Zone 2 support as well, the remote for Zone 2 was rather clumsy. Using this receiver with the Logitech remote was noticably different too. The remote setup Zone2 as a separate receiver which made programming more straightforward.
The use of banana plugs for the speaker connectors really cleaned up the setup. True, you pay more for the plugs, but anytime you have to undo your connections or later upgrade your receiver, it will be well worth it. And from an aesthetic point of view, I really like the way it looks.
The one thing that I am disappointed with is the lip synch technology. I was specifically hoping that this would be able to fix certain U-verse channels that are prone to lip-synch problems. Trying to adjust the timing is done blind because while you are adjusting the lip synch delay, you can't actually see the picture! I don't really see the point in switching your display.
All in all, I am very impressed with the sound quality, cleaned up cabling using HDMI cables, and better Zone 2 functionality.
Comments about Yamaha RXV765 AV 7.2 Channel Receiver:
The setup is a little confusing at first (as it is with any new electronics), but after some time it's cake. I love great audio, and this unit really surprised me. I'm not a fan of different sound fields, I prefer to hear the audio (music, games, movies, etc) as it was recorded, so the "straight" sound field is my favorite for most scenarios. The surround processing is very well done, and the bi-amp capability is very much appreciated as it does help the sound from the main L/R channels to come thorugh a little cleaner. I am running a full Polk speaker compliment, Monitor 60's L/R bi-amped, CS1 center, Monitor 40's as surrounds, and a PSW505 for the sub. The sound is powerful, clean, and very tight. I love it. This receiver is getting great reviews everywhere and I can agree 100%.

This unit replaced a Yamaha HTR-5450 AV Receiver.
Loved the way that worked and this unit is equally as crucial to my system. It is a great hub for all of my HDMI inputs and reduces the HDMI cables that have to go to my TV.

Only drawbacks I have found:
1. Neural sound should work with Dolby input
2. Should be able to map Optical audio input to HDMI input (I have an HTPC and my video card does not support 7.1 sound, so I need to use optical, but I cannot plug in optical and HDMI to receiver - and use both at one time)

Comments about Yamaha RXV765 AV 7.2 Channel Receiver:
It does NOT upscale HDMI input. So, even if it's 480 in through HDMI it will be 480 out.
When I turn it on it remembers the last signal I had selected, usually HDMI 1 or 2. But then it switches to AV1, which doesn't have anything hooked up to it.
I'm happy with the heat, it runs cool.
I'm happy with the pass through, when it's off AV still goes through HDMI.

I bought this receiver to go with my home theater system and have not been the least disappointed. Works great with today's TV's since HD is a requirement. I feel like I'm a part of the movie as I watch it. I've been to a lot of new, really good theaters and my home experience now will give them a run for their money !

Comments about Yamaha RXV765 AV 7.2 Channel Receiver:
I enjoy the clarity of sound, not the loudness. This produces Crystal clear sound when paired with Polk M50s ,Polk CS2 and Yamaha SW315. I have setup this in a large open living room with 20 ft sealing. It performs well.
I am new to audio systems , but i am tech savvy. The set was a breeze. The speaker setup made lot of difference in the quality of sound. I think by default the sub woofer output was off, but the auto speaker setup took care of it.
The build is solid as you would expect from Yamaha. Not too huge, not small either. Enough choices for connections
S-Video is missing, not some thing many care. I can't say how good is the video up-scaling as the TV is already been doing some up-scaling.

Most on-line stores with cheaper price are not YAMAHA authorized dealers, including Abe's of Maine. If you buy warranty with your receiver, it takes extra $$. This price of RX-V765 includes 3Yr warranty from MacCamera and it's best price. There're cheaper prices in the other stores, but actually it's more expensive when you add same warranty.

I feel this is a great system for home theatre use and depending on the size of the room you will be using, your music library will sound remarkable. So far with this system the (2) functions i particularly like is the pure direct button which is great for those movies with extra sound effects(Ex.AVP2)& the 7 channel enhancer button which brings up the sound in all 7 speakers. As i continue to use this system i am sure i will bump into another useful feature.

Thiis unit has numerous useful feature, is easy to set up and powerful. I wanted an AV amp that would do it all, blue ray theatre, tv, music with cd player and ipod as well as a good tuner section. For the money this is a surprisingly clean functional unit. I definately recommend it. It was easy to set up. I now hear stuff I didn't know was there before.

Comments about Yamaha RXV765 AV 7.2 Channel Receiver:
Used as a home theatre, easy setup, one problem is the display on the unit, from 23 feet away from the unit, you cannot see the display. Two bad it cannot relay the information to the TV screen.

I'm using this as a 5.1 surround system in my living room which is approximately a 13' x 15' rectangle.
System sounds great with my existing B&O BEO 8000 Main front speakers and my Paradigm Sub Woofer. Center Channel, and Paradigm satellites.
