(based on 4 ratings)
Brand: YAMAHA
Located in: Audio, Stereo Receivers
The Yamaha HTR-6180 (aka Yamaha RX-863) is a 7.2 channel a/v receiver supporting video upconversion up to 1080p and HD audio decoding. It has similar specifications to the Yamaha HTR-6160 (aka Yamaha RX-663) but has 3 HDMI inputs instead of 2, and is a rated for 105 Watts / channel as compared to 95 Watts / channel. However, the most significant difference between the 6180 and 6160 is that the 6180 upscales video sources to up to 1080p, whereas the 6160 merely transcodes the video sources to HDMI and component.

Comments about YAMAHA HTR6180BL 7.2 Channel Receiver w/ FREE 3 YR EXTENDED WARRANTY:

I have the unit connected with HDMI input from the cable box and out to the TV via HDMI. When changing channels there is a 13 to 15 second delay while the receiver decides and decodes the input. This makes channel surfing very difficult and is putting a strain on my marriage. I may have to 1) change the input from digital to something else or get an attorney.

[...] The Yamaha HTR-6180 has exceeded my expectations, what a great product. I have a Samsung H.D. dvd player, five Infinity speakers and a Cerwin-Vega sub hooked to it and everyone tells me it's the best souding home theater system they have ever heard, they say it is studio quality sound. Abe's also was giving a free extended warranty when I orderd this product.

Comments about YAMAHA HTR6180BL 7.2 Channel Receiver w/ FREE 3 YR EXTENDED WARRANTY:

I use this system with my 7.1 Surround Sound card on my Desktop mainly. I've got a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player. It allows me to switch to my home media PC to my PS3 and back to my DVR super quick and easy. Everything is plugged into one source, so no hassling with multiple remotes or anything. One simple to use (Hard to configure) setup.

There's a minor issue with 9800GX2 video cards running on Windows Vista x64 and entering into the menu on the Receiver itself. Every time I do so it blue screens, but as soon as I switch to my internal graphics it works fine. Could be an nVidia driver issue.

Video upscale works great on my Cheap-O DVD player (Which i no longer use). The receiver has a lot of connections on the back, and while setting up the actual receiver itself is easy, running the cables to it and actually connecting them all in the back is a little more difficult than I was expecting (The connectors in the back are a tad close together). I used 14g wire, so its really bunched up in the back.

Overall im super pleased with the performance. It gets loud enough me to say its loud (While staying clear and crisp). I dont get any distortion from my speakers, i just wish that my PS3 would pick up the 1080p pass through a little better. I have to manually set it every once and a while.
