Comments about Hewlett-Packard FM948UT Compaq 515 Notebook QL-64 14 250/3GB PC:

This is a solid laptop for the overall price-performance ratio. For some [$]you'll get a solid CPU, average integrated GPU which will do most of the stuff except play the newest games. But after all this is not a gaming laptop, although older games as well as the newer ones which do not have high requirements will be playable. It comes with XP (BIG +) with tolerable amount of cr.pware (minus) and it is eligible for free Windows 7 upgrade (HUGE +, already ordered it). My biggest remark would be the CPU temp. It gets really hot. After stressing it with Orthos Beta temp would go up to 90-92 deg C (both cores), and that's after about 10 min of the test. Tried to undervolt it but without success. The system gets very unstable. It gets unstable even without undervolting. Once it went blue on me after 12 min of the stress test (without undervolting). Not surprising given the high cpu temp. Bottom line, this is a laptop primarily for business use such as: word processing, basic multimedia tasks, web browsing, presentations, etc. Tasks like this will be performed very fast. Over-stressing the CPU for longer periods of time (gaming) will probably lead to the BSOD (due to the CPU overheating).
