Needed a printer upgrade. Shopped inside stores, familiarizing with each brand. Canon has many remarkable reviews with their printers. Found this one, it is the best. Many funtions. Love the double sided printing, fully automatic. Printer has a scanning memory, can print 2 pages on one side. Very helpfuI feature for my needs. I enjoy printing photos, absolutely high quality picture perfect. I can even tweek the photo color, with the photo lab software enclosed. The ink cartridges last much longer than I anticipated. I do not have a high usb port on my computer, my sony xp, it still prints quite fast for my needs. Installing is a snap. Just follow the instructions, guides you through quite easy. I would highly recommend this printer, a smart investment. Cool colored LCD screen, fun navigation controls. Abe's provided me with the best customer service. Very speedy. Very proud and happy with my purchase.

Duplex printing switches into color mode regardless of whether you want it: black is approximated by spraying all colors on top of each other. It's slow and wastes ink.

This is by design, supposedly to prevent smearing. I would have gone with a different printer had this been more clear.

Printer works great for document and photo printing. Fairly easy setup on the network and no device driver conflicts thus far. Printer has a larger footprint compared to some HP models. Only flaw is the envelope printing - it smears 90% of the time.
