Comments about Samsung BDP4600 Blu-Ray Disc Player (Wall Mountable):
I really wanted the best blu-ray player I could get that was compatible with my new Samsung LN52B750 LCD. So, I sprung for the extra bucks to get the top of the line Samsung BDP4600. This is, indeed, a beautiful machine and it matches the TOC styling so well you should leave it on top of your cabinet or hang it on the wall with the included bracket. (You may have no choice, see below.)
The Blu-ray player produces a beautiful picture and the upconvert is so good, I wonder why anyone would buy the blu-ray discs. Also, Samsung now controls the Any.net process, where the tv, receiver, remote control, and DVD player all talk to each other and optimize all the settings, via the HDMI-CEC specification. If all components are connected with HDMI 1.3b cabling or better, turning on the DVD player changes the input on the receiver and sets the best resolution for the tv, so it is very important that they all be compatible. I was very pleased that the Yamaha receiver (RXV465), which I also bought from Abes, works fine with Any.net, contrary to Samsung's claim of exclusivity.
Also, upgrading the firmware is a snap, as it either will upgrade using the Internet or download the new file to your pc and use a standard usb flash drive to load it into the player.
Here comes the bad news. I planned to use the unit like any standard A/V component, and fit it on one of the shelves in my tv console. There were several problems, notably:
1) The disc is inserted and ejected on the right side, not from the front, so you have to slide the whole unit out to use it. It won't just sit on a shelf like any other A/V component. AND, it has to be on the left side of your component console to avoid hitting the door with the disc (provided the door opens on the left and you have slide-out shelves). So, if you don't have slide out component shelves, you have to position the DVD player on top of your cabinet or on the wall.
2) The cables (power, HDMI, and ethernet) are cleverly hidden on the bottom of the unit under a cover so that they minimize the sight of the ugly tangle of cables exiting from your components. Sadly, though, the plugs BARELY fit in that small space and have to be carefully placed so that the cover snaps closed and all of the cables fit through the space provided. If you have to work in a tight space to install the player, you are in for some knuckle-bruising contortions.
3) To maintain its designer styling, Samsung put the power supply into a separate power brick, which has to be dealt with accordingly.
So, save the money and buy the BDP3600 if you plan to position the DVD player in a cabinet as a component. Otherwise, get this great model and enjoy.
The side exiting disc takes up a lot of room

This blu-ray player is small, sleek and modern. It can be mounted on any wall or set on a stand. Is able to connect quickly and wirelessly for Netflix streaming. The player is shiny and beautiful, but should come in chrome for more versatility.
