Blue Ray Player used in home theater set-up and it works great! Purchased this Panasonic unit to consolidate all of our needs with a single player: retired our old CD player and old standard DVD player, and this prevented us from having to purchase a separate DVD player just to upscale standard DVDs. Expensive? Yeah, a little, but you get what you pay for. The big reason we purchased it is for the Dolby 5.1 codec to ramp up our Yamaha receiver so I could finally use a subwoofer for home movies. I've read other reviews that have downgraded the DMPBD50K's ability to upscale standard DVDs. We only have a 37-inch HDTV and the upscaling exceeded our expectations. I was considering purchasing a separate upscaling DVD, but am glad I didn't. Blue Ray players are definitely pricey at this stage, but this was a very solid investment. My family is enjoying home movies at an entirely new level.
