Comments about NU Technology WDR-800 8 inch Portable Dvd Player:
I got this for use in the car, replacing a well-reviewed Phillips PET 1002 unit and finally got a chance to use it.
Compared to the Phillips unit, it:
Started up faster.
Ran quieter, compared to the grinding noises coming from the Phillips.
Did not feel flimsy.
Occupied a smaller volume due to tablet design, compared to clamshell, making it easier to use in the car.
Has an FM transmitter to link to car audio system (I did not test this capability).
On the other side, it:
Has a reported shorter battery life (I did not test this)
Requires power to eject a disc.
With the Phillips unable to play discs, I used it as an auxiliary screen to this unit With the proper cables and adapters between units. The headrest adapter is a little balky. The adapter also makes it harder to use the supplied battery. This unit is marketed in the European market as a region-free player. If you're interested, I would suggest contacting their customer support.
On first usage, I'm happy with the features and the build/operating quality compared to the old unit.

The only con is that the remote must be kept handy, as if the unit is stalled, the remote is the equipment that can unlock. Not a frequent problem, but a problem some of the time. Other than that, it is a great machine.
