this product is lightweight for an SLR and works great.
the shutter speed is a little slow though and doesn't work great in low lights but its good for a beginner.

I have used this mainly doing landscape type picture in my travels. I have done a few portrait style, and in the near future will have an oppotunity to do a lot more portrait, as I have a wedding to attend.
I could not be happier with the camera, it seems to be everything I want and a bit more.

This is my first DSLR camera, and I love it! I choose D60 over D40 and Canon XS/XSi mainly because my friend told me the two AF-S VR lens would be the deal breaker. My practice these days confirmed my friend's point. Image quality is great. Focus is fast. Although the low-light performance is fine, I'm considering buying the 35mm prime lens for some improvement.

The D60 is a great entry-level DSLR. It is quick and responsive when used in situations with plenty of light. Burst-Mode works better with Active D-Lighting off; it can be applied to shots afterwards if necessary. The shutter lag is frustrating when using this camera with flash; it is noticeable with the popup flash and terrible with a speedlight. That said, the quality of the shots from the D60 is excellent under almost all shooting conditions. (ISO 1600 and higher should be avoided with this camera. Even though the camera may be capable of taking a shot at high sensitivities, the results may be unsatisfactory.)

The 18mm-55mm & 55mm-200mm lenses are both decent. However, if cost were not a factor, the 18mm-200mm lens would be a better selection - fewer missed shots from not having to swap lenses as well as minimizing the opportunities of dust/dirt getting into the system.

I am in the Navy and currently traveling. My wife purchased this camera for me and it is an excellent investment. I am able to photograph my experience in different countries. Photography is a new hobbie that I recently picked up. This camera is perfect for beginners. It's really easy to use and learn from. I haven't really found anything wrong or bad about this camera yet.

it's still one of the most affordable cameras in its class and it represents the perfect 'upgrade' camera for anyone who has outgrown their digital compact camera and is looking to dip a first toe in the world of the digital SLR. Its output is consistently good (the JPEGs are excellent and its raw files have lots of dynamic range headroom), it's a pleasure to use and, handles well and weighs very little.

Still trying to optimize the D60's overall performance and learn its strengths but I have to say my older Kodak 6 meg prosumer camera takes better pictures in full auto. The D60 shot to shot is much faster no doubt, but for the money I spent for the D60, I'm not overly impressed. And my older Kodak is much smaller and lighter to boot. [...]

Used to shoot with my Nikon F3 doing actor photos and headshots in the 80s, changed to Canon 10D for first digital, gave the 10D to a deserving young nephew and went camera-less for a couple years. The Nikon D60 is a great replacement! Easy, fast, great quality!

It is a very cool D-SLR! I like the quality of the pictures very much, although I only used the automatic functions so far! I strongly suggest it to my friends.
The only problem is it not fit to taking pictures with a little dark light.

This is a great starter SLR digital. There is no view through the LCD but if you have been using a film SLR the transition is easy. It's not the top of the line but a really great mid level camera.
Definitely go with the Vibration Reduction (VR).
Solid feel. The body is smaller than a traditional SLR and that take a little getting used to but being able to see your shots after you've taken them is great. I've used this under some challenging circumstances (freezing cold) and it is still easy to use. Abe's is the best place to buy this camera.

Excellent camera. Very high level of capabilities. Works great outdoors as expected. Works better indoors with or with out flash than any other digital camera I have owned or used.
Only surprise is that you have to use the view finder prior to taking picture - the LCD is not active until you snap the picture. After switching from 35 mm film to digital cameras years ago, it seemed strange to me at first, but now I think I actually get better stability, focus and control because I use the viewfinder. Overall it is a very impressive camera.

This is a great camera that is easy to use. The instructions manual is easy to follow and it allows you to pick up on things quickly. I am amazed at the quality of these pictures!! They are much better than my point and shoot digital. Although the heavier camera takes some getting used to it is def worth the purchase, your pictures will be so much better.

I wanted the D60 kit as a lighter alternative to my Olympus E3 kit. The D60 is an amazing camera and definitely an outstanding value. The two things I don't really care for is the louder shutter and slow focus (compared with my E-3 which is in a different league, I know - and costs much more money).

Use the Action function to take multiple pictures in quick sequence; the Auto funtion does not allow you to do that (at least I haven't figured out how to do it).

I had a Nikon 8800 coolpix It took great pictures but I found the transfer time to slow. I bought a Nikon D-60 with 18-55 & 55-200 lens. This is a great combination. I shot a wedding for a friend an the bride was thrilled with the photos.

This SLR is almost as easy to use as a point-and-shoot camera. With the auto focus and the anti shake turned on all one has to do is determine how close one wants to zoom to the object. The image quality is very good with very crisp outline, good lighting and color trueness. It is fast and responsive.
The only thing that could be nice every once in a while is a live view screen where you can see what your picture will look like without having to look through the view finder.
But that is really not a reason to not recommend this camera to anybody who is looking to buy a versatile user friendly SLR.

We got the combo pac w/regular and telephoto lens. D60 works great. We have some more learning to do, but the included book explains details good enough. Automatic mode makes up for a lot of user shortcomings. Does excellent in low light outdoors. Picture quality is excellent. Definately a good unit.

I have owned 7 Nikon point and shoot cameras.
This is my first digital SLR. The D60 has the extra technology and performance that will take me to the next level of photography. The image quality is outstanding. I recommend that you invest in a higher capacity battery, and use the other as a backup. I also recommend purchasing the Nikon SB600 flash.
As for the VR; I can't seem to notice the difference. Perhaps my use of it hasn't brought me there yet. It would also have been nice to have the live view on the LCD. I can live without, but coming from point and shoot cameras, it would have been nice to have once in a while.

I have used this camera at two weddings, and received positive comments about how well the photos turned out. A few thought that my photos were the work of a professional. I like the 200mm zoom lens for all the close ups. The VR is a nice feature to stabilize any slight movement. The auto focus mechanism is highly responsive. The battery life is great. I purchased a third party battery as a backup, thinking that I would consume a lot battery, but the battery lasted the entire day.A 4gb SD High Capacity card is quite sufficient for shooting, I also carry around some spare 2bg cards.I am very pleased I got the Nikon D60, I almost got the D40 with the 6.0mp but getting the higher resolution is well worth it.Great camera at a great price, and I am very impressed with ABE's f[...] low pricing.
