Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

As a novice photographer this camera has the features I can grow with. I choose this camera mainly for the full size sensor [ 35mm ]. I have several lenses now and I didnt want to deal with the penalty of using an aps size censor. The only draw back I can say is that it is rather expensive. However I still have my lens

Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

The exposure mode dial on top left of camera does not have a locking mechanism. A slight brush against clothing will cause a change in modes when carrying the camera and not be aware that it has changed if you don't constantly check it before shooting. The only surefire solution that I've come up with so far is to fasten it down with gaffers or duct tape. This problem is by no means a deal killer, just an annoying oversight by Canon. Other than that it's a great camera with a high pixel count, bright screen, and finally a pro grade camera with live action shooting at reasonable cost.

Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

This camera is amazing. The full frame capabilities, the feel and look of it, the LCD, EVERYTHING about it is perfect.

The only drawback (to nitpick) is that it makes you rethink your data storage needs. The 21.1mp RAW files are ~25mb each, so 16gb CF cards are now a must. It's easy to shoot 40-50gb at a wedding, so archival becomes another challenge. Oh, and buy more RAM for your computer.

Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

I had been waiting for a full frame replacement for my 20D and since the 5D Mark 2 was about to be released I decided to wait some more and could not be happier. This is a quantum leap from the 20D. I was concerned that the pixels being smaller than those of the original 5D would mean a loss of IQ but I don't think this is the case at at all.

Full frame allows me to take full advantage of my lenses and the finer control capability of the camera give me more control of the image as I capture it resulting in less image processing at home.

The High ISO capability allows me to control DOF better in low light and still capture good images without a tripod.

An all round excellent product!

Upgrading from a crop body makes me miss the reach from a telephoto lens, but, this is how it was meant to be! Overall, a very affordable camera body to accompany all of those "L" lenses.

Canon quality and 21 megapixels. A solid camera that produces professional results. I have a older Canon 5-D and I like the old battery system better. The new battery meter is hard to read, and will not give info on non-Canon batteries.

Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

I ordered it for the new dust cleaning mechanism but the live view was great on my first portrait shoot of a 2 and 4 year old who were literally bouncing from wall to wall in the studio. I set up a tv monitor with hdmi and could tell which shots were successful right away. The mother paid for the intial shoot and ordered more than double the amount in extra prints.

Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

This is my fantasy camera and probably the last I'll ever need or use. And best of all I don't need a truck or a mule to get it on location. I am confident that I could cover any assignment from sports to art with it if only I could get an assignment in New Mexico. But that aside. I no longer weep for the loss of the Swiss, Swedish or German products now left behind and/or essentially given away because they only used film; I adored them and the use of them was a pleasure but this is now and that was then. Put it on a tripod and make Ansel weep or chase starlets and blow them off their high heels. It does it all with finesse and grace like wings on your feet and stars in your eyes; hand in glove a natural fit.

Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

I've been doing photography as a serious hobbyist for about 4 years now. Canon 5D Mark II, seems like a big step from 1st generation 5D that I had before (just like it was a step above my 1st SLR Canon 20D). After taking few shots of the spring flowers I was completely blown away by the quality of the image and impressive clarity, brightness and sheer size of the LCD display. I find it very useful now, especially for focusing in the live mode. Camera will feel very familiar to anyone who had 5D. Shape of the body and buttons are in the usual places. This camera felt slightly lighter to me than my old 5D. Shutter sound is a lot softer now, so you have a better chance not to spook animals in the wild. And of course there's an HD Movie mode. Saying that I was impressed, is understatement. Quality of the footage is superb! Combined with a set of good lenses (I have bunch from Macro to 400mm telephoto) you can film things no other HD camera can. I also like live mode, although I don't find much use for it. It is useful for silent photography or when you can't hold camera to your face (like above the crowd or very low). My biggest gripe is lack of autofocus in the live/movie mode. Manual mentines that there's a limited and slow ability to autofocus, but I still haven't figured out how to use it. Fortunately you get a large bright screen so manual focusing can be done. There's alos some noise during filming from the lens internal stabilization/autofocus system, but I did not find it very distracting. I would not turn off IS to reduce the noise, because it HELPS ALOT during filming, almost like you are holding camera on the shoulder. Did I mention how much I love making HD movies with this camera? :)
Sensor cleaning is also a great feature. I got so tired of constantly cleaning it on my old 5D. Auto ISO is the feature I thought I'd never use, but it's awesome! It's one thing less to worry about and since ISO noise is so low on this sensor, I always leave Auto ISO on.

Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

Major improvement from previous 5d. The LCD improvement alone was almost enough reason to switch but I didn't realize that until after I already had it. The Video feature was the feature that ultimately swayed me to this camera over Nikon 700 (I am a wedding photographer and shoot primarily Nikon) I heard the complaints on the difficulty of using the video but for me it is a WONDERFUL feature. I am quite pleased! Would have liked to have seen dual slots added to this camera. With the HUGE files it would have not only given the backup option but the ability to spill over onto second card with the video etc. Camera has very nice color, I am enjoying the live view more than I thought I would for shooting low etc. THE BACK ORDER BATTERY SITUATION IS RIDICULOUS right now. Bigger deal than anyone thought it was going to be I'm sure! I will have to use the battery pack with the double AAs for backup batteries to use the camera in an event at all! NOT happy about that! Bottom line, the camera is sweet! I am glad I purchased it. Not 5 because of cheesy plastic Canon Knobs and crazy menus BUT its a good strong 4.

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:

Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

This camera does what it claims, especially in low light situations. Even ISO 6400 delivers useable images. Be sure to use good glass with this camera. The kit 24-105 lens is a good one to start with (unlike most kit lenses).
Wish they had made the mirror lock-up function easier to access. It’s buried in the custom menu settings. I guess you can put it in one of the 3 custom settings but that uses up a setting for one function. The 3.9 fps continuous shooting is fine for what I do but may be too pedestrian for the sports photographer.
Live view is nice though I rarely use it especially with such a nice bright viewfinder.
The 1080P video is also a nice bonus – just be sure to use a tripod and have a fast computer for playback (Zoombrowser and VLC work on my pc, QuickTime and others play the files rather jerky)
And, of course, the images are stunning. You can’t get better for this price range.
I expect to be using this camera for a long time to come – definitely my favorite.

Comments about CANON EOS 5D Mark II Digital SLR Body:

The EOS 5D Mark II has excellent color saturation, and very accurate auto focus with my 28-70mm "L" and 17-40mm "L" series lenses. My previous Canon 10D AND 20D cameras were very good as far as image quality is concerned, However, the 5D Mark II's image quality "blew me away." Accurate color with excellent saturation, excellent exposure metering, and superb resolution make this camera the top choice for the dollar. The "Black Dot" issue has apparently been solved by Canon as I cannot create the problem in very high contrast night scenes.
