Have used this camera on a few vacations due to it's compact size and ease of use. I have a 35mm SLR that I use for weddings, etc., but this is a great camera for the everyday use and the combination of the zoom and the 10 mp has actually outperformed the SLR in some settings. Only con I can say is the built in flash has it's limitations. In large rooms indoors the flash kind of peters out. Other than that, no complaints. I would recommend it to anyone for all around photography.

Upgraded from my 10 year old olympus 3 mp. This camera is big enough to hold but small enough to pocket. Great no hassle pictures. Put it on auto and go. Video was also very easy. If I have to be picky LCD could be brighter but I tend to use viewfinder anyway. Note: If doing videos get a bat charger

I ALREADY OWN A CANON POWERSHOT S3 IS (6 MP), ONE TERRIFIC CAMERA. I BOUGHT THE NEW A1000 IS(10 MP) FOR MY FATHER'S 80TH BIRTHDAY. IT'S HIS FIRST DIGITAL CAMERA AND HE WAS ABLE TO START USING IT IN NO TIME. DAD REALLY ENJOYS BE ABLE TO SEE PICTURES AND MOVIES HE HAS TAKEN ON THE TELEVISION.

This is a great camera for the very low price. Although I also purchased, for a few dollars more, the SD1000 IS, which is far superior. HOWEVER, having a camera that uses AA batteries is a plus in my mind and it has a little better zoom. The view screen is bad, but hey, for the money, I am not going to complain. Seems like in the point and shoot I always stick with Canon, and never go wrong.
