The only negative thing I can say is that I have a lot to learn. Fortunately, the camera is user friendly and works well on the auto mode. The camera allows you to learn with it and advance as time progresses, while capturing quality photos throughout the process.

Have used the EOS 40D to photograph a variety of family activities and have found the camera easily adapts to all kinds of situations, i.e. low light, action, portrait and group cameras without any hesitation. The only draw back to the camera I have found is that several of the menu controlled functions are not intuitive and it is necessary to memorize the location and steps needed to get there, i.e. the self-timer for example. I will say this is the fourth Canon camera I have purchased and it is the best yet.

Probably more camera than I need but it takes the best pictures of any camera I've ever used! Clear, crisp, in focus. Great in low light, but best results with a tripod. Great camera.

The Cannon EOS 40D was my hands down choice and I love it.

Oustanding camera you can go totally auto for the novice or manual for the more experienced user. The sutter speed is lightining fast and auto mode works well. Camera has a solid feel and a bit of weight to it. You will be used to it in nop time flat. The only thing I would like to have scene is a button like the 50D which lets you use the live preview mode on the fly without going into the menu. Of course if you are using this camera that's probally not a concern.

I took the camera to China as a part of earthquake relief work and Beijing Olympics later. It took a lot of beatings, but the photos came out great. The size is just perfect for my hand. I love the 6.5 fps feature.

Picture quality is excellent from first shot. Package lens is very versatile, but does have limits... 28mm isn't wide enough for all indoor pics, but is still the best all-around lens. I've owned it for 4 months and will still be learning more about operating it for years. It's easy to take good pics right off the bat. Great pics consistently will take some time and practice. but that's more my fault than the camera's. It's a lot better camera than I am photographer. Camera is heavy, but I don't really view it as a negative. It has the solid, subtantial feel of a professional camera.

Great camera, best paired with good lens. 2x extender does not work with the lens that came with it. It really should come with a full illustrated manual so you can learn to use all the features. They market to the amateur that wants to take great photos, but without good instructions, you can't use the camera to it's full potential.

I love this camera's 'sports' mode...You can't miss the action and as the bird watcher that I am, it's particularly great for photographing birds in flight. If you're new to Digital SLR Photography, I'd recommend purchasing the 'Canon EOS 40D Guide to Digital SLR Photography' by David D. Busch...A great book with plenty of tips and tricks!
