We bought this camera specifically to use on a vacation to Hawaii for snorkeling - we used it less than 1/2 hour on our first day of vacation and it stopped working - so we had to send the camera back to Canon in Virginia[...]which meant we only had it to use 2 days out of a 29 day vacation - once we got to use it, it performed well and the pictures were great [...]- we only bought it to use snorkeling and are unlikely to go anywhere that we will need an underwater camera for many years to come!
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I bought this camera from Abe's because the price was very good and they offered an added warranty. It was meant as a compact underwater camera for our trip to St. John, USVI and I am very happy with the results. Clear shots & easy to use.
Face it. All underwater cameras are going to leak sometime. I purchased the extended warranty from Abe's just in case. So far no problems although just opening the camera in the humid St. John air allowed some moisture into the camera. It continued to work fine though. I just opened it up in our air conditioned Jeep and dried it out a couple of times. This will happen with any camera.
I recommend a large memory card to minimize swapping (I think 16 GB is the max.) and a long life battery for the same reason. I went thru a battery a day with heavy use. After every use in salt water follow the instructions and soak the camera in fresh water. Clean the lens well. We got great shots and video.
Some folks say this camera is bulky. Not me. I like some size to my camera. I swam for 10 days with it on my wrist and it never bothered me. The wrist strap attaches to any corner of the camera which turned out to be a nice feature.
This camera could use a longer zoom for land shots but honestly, underwater shots need to be pretty close up to come out good. Even the water in the Caribbean is not perfectly clear and zoom shots end up cloudy.

I use this camera when the environment is harsh. Causes others with lesser capable cameras to literally turn green with envy. FACT!!
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
This is a fabulous underwater digital camera. It's not overly compact but very easy to hold in the water and takes amazing underwater photos.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
Great for shooting in and around water or in rain. Underwater shots are good as is video. Reasonably sharp in the center, much less so at edges. Flash is somewhat week.
In summary, makes a great I can take anywhere camera.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
Bought this for a backpacking trip to Pennsylvania (aka Rocksylvania) as well as for bike tours. Wanted to get something that was rugged and could take some abuse. I loved having this camera and not worrying about the rain (took some great shots I otherwise would have passed up for fear of getting the camera wet). I love the Canon lenses and this camera did not disappoint. I used two extended batteries and started to use the little one for a five day trip - took about 200 photos and a few videos and several people viewed them during that time so glad to have the extra batteries.
Camera is a bit bulky but you get used to it and the positives greatly outdo the negatives. A bit pricey but I expect to get my money's worth out of it (other cameras I've taken with me to outdoor adventures don't last a year so time will tell).

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
This camera comes with the optical quality I always expect from a Canon. It has smart features and it is extremely easy to use. I've used this out on the town, on the boat, and even hiking, and all the pictures turned out great.
The only downside: it doesn't fit in standard cases. It's a little big, but that is in no way a big minus.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
The camera doesn't take very good pictures at all. If you zoom and then try to blow up later it's blury so it's useless to take far away pictures. It's zoom is slow and the shutter speed is slow, very disappointing to say the least the for money!!! [...]
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
Clear pictures, durable camera. I like the bulkier feel it is easier to hold onto underwater. Picture quality is excellent, action pictures aren't fuzzy.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
Very sturdy, excellent water proof (I took it to my snorkeling trip). I took some night pictures without flash which came out good but not great. I took some action photos ( kids going down slides, water actions ) which came out really great ( great short lag time and great speed ). Underwater pictures came out good/great but it was hard to see the LCD underwater. I wish there was option to turn backlight to max when underwater.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
Like the underwater feature
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
takes very good photos; great for the beach; can give it to the kids without worrying about dropping; even limited zoom is not that big of a problem at beach. Lots of fun for the kids taking pictures underwater. Just remember to rinse well in fresh water.
If you want a slightly more rugged waterproof camera with more zoom, look at the more expensive Olympus Stylus Tough 8010 14MP Digital Camera.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
Bought this camera for a snorkeling trip to Jamaica. Camera worked great underwater! Camera focuses quickly, tracks faces if there is any movement so it can get a great shot. Nice sharp pictures with great color variation and nicely detailed contrasts. Takes beautiful pictures out of the water, too. Took a better sunset portrait picture than the professional photographer! Would recommend for sports where you have to take a fast picture, for travel when you want something small, and a must-have for underwater! Be sure to dry lens after underwater shots so you don't get water spots in other pictures. Easy to use, didn't even take time to read the manual and was able to take great pictures. Love, love, love this camera!

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
Here are two photographs taken with the new Canon Powershot D10 during a recent trip to Puerto Rico and the Caribbean. The image quality was set to Fine and recording pixels set to large. Picture Mode is detailed below.
The underwater photograph was taken using the Underwater Mode during a "helmet dive" in St. Thomas, USVI, at depths up to 18 feet on a very overcast day. The lens was at its full wide angle of 6.2 mm. Auto setting resulted in a 1/60 second shutter speed at f:2.8 aperture without flash and an 80 ISO speed.
While underwater I attached the mounting lug of the supplied wrist strap to the top left attachment point of the camera, slipped my hand through the loop nearest the camera body and snugged it to my left wrist. I left enough slack to allow me to grip the camera with my left hand, when necessary, and just let the D10 hang freely. To take a photograph I simply grasped the camera with my right hand and steadied it with my left, giving me a secure, natural shooting position. I could easily access all controls even while wearing rubberized dive gloves.
The photograph of the fishing village was taken on a sunny day on the Layou River in Dominica with the camera set to Auto Mode. The lens was set to full telephoto of 18.6 mm. The camera selected a shutter speed of 1/320 of a second at f:4.9 with an ISO speed of 100.
Throughout, the cCanon D10 performed flawlessly. Start up, shutter lag and flash recycle times were all acceptable for real world use.
Despite its funky contours the camera fit comfortably in the pockets of both regular and board shorts and didn't feel at all oversized or cumbersome to use.
I took over a hundred photographs and reviewed them several times on one charge, even though I forgot to turn the camera off after our helmet dive, so battery life wasn't an issue.
After use I gave the camera a good fresh water bath, dried it thoroughly and checked all the compartments for signs of leakage. Inside it was always dry as a bone.
A word of caution...Ensure that the lens window is dry. Any residual water will obviously degrade the quality of images taken in the dry.
I also took several night photos during a Kayak trip to the Bioluminescent Bay in Fajardo, Puerto Rico using both the Long Exposure setting (set at 15 seconds) with flash and the Auto with flash setting with great results.
I didn't shoot any video, never dropped the camera and the thermometer seemed stuck around 85 degrees Fahrenheit, so I can't comment on theD10s HD capabilities, shock-proofing or cold weather functionality, and I never used the camera in a low light or indoors, but those are not really the environments in which I intend to use the D10.
If your lifestyle puts you in or around swimming pools, bodies water or rain the Canon powershot D10 is a must have gadget. Zoom range is limited and the Image quality may not meet National Geographic standards, but for the rest of the world this little camera will allow us to record your adventures as never before at a price point and level of convenience we can all appreciate.

After reading several reiviews, I purchased this camera to use while snorkeling in St Lucia.I am thrilled with the pictures both in the water and on land. The underwater and sunset settings were great features.
I found the camera easy to use underwater. Easy to swim with, change settings and to capture the shot.
I did buy a floating wrist strap and an extra battery to have with me. Glad that I had both.
I am very happy with my purchase

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
The power button seems to be failing and I have had the camera less than a month. Not sure if it is the waterproof liner that makes it hard to depress but it seems soft and mushy when turning on and off.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I bought this camera on the basis of very favorable reviews. I was not happy with my previous underwater camera, the Olympus Stylus 720SW. It was awkward to use, the images were not great, water beaded-up on the lens, etc. This Canon D10 performed great on a recent trip to Belize where I used it snorkeling, exploring wet caves, and in normal dry-land situations. The controls are easy to see and use, the viewfinder is bright, and the images are sharp. I used the underwater SCN setting while snorkeling, and the fish pics turned out fine without much noise or other image degradation. In addition, I like the camera's rugged construction. I inadvertently banged the camera against the metal ladder of the boat and the blow did not phase the tough D10.
The Canon D10 was ideal for wet caving in Belize

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I bought this camera for my son to take to Afghanistan because of the extreme conditions there. He needed something that could withstand the high and low temperatures, the dust, standing in the rain for hours, and the shock of everything from being slammed into a foxhole to close mortar fire. No other camera on the market even offers all the features that could withstand this kind of punishment. I hope it delivers, but we won't know until he gets over there in a couple of weeks. Not having seen the camera in use, I only have visual first impressions. The camera is thick, but not too thick to fit into Army fatigue pockets. I would absolutely recommend the accessory kit, though. I think it's a necessity for the straps, especially if you're an active person. Also, that light metalic blue color just doesn't fly on an Army base. The body covers in gray and camouflage were not optional equipment for my son. It's just a shame that Canon gouges people on the price. I was able to get the accessory kit for $99 after some thorough searching, but for something that costs very little to make, they should be ashamed of themselves.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
Cons:
1. Shutter lag (of course Im used to using an SLR)
2. Sometimes does not focus properly.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
After reading many reviews on waterproof / shock resistant point & shoot cameras, I chose this camera over the Olympus Tough 8000 because the controls are similar to my other PowerShot camera & it too is good to 33 feet and shock resistant.
My wife and I snorkeled in Bonaire last week and this camera gave me some excellent photos of sea turtles, colorful fish and coral. I dove down to about 10 feet several times to take shots and was pleased with the results when using the underwater custom setting. Also, the image stabilization worked very well when shooting from a moving catamaran sailboat.
The strap fastens securely around your wrist and can be locked to any corner on the camera, so there was no fear of dropping it. After use in salt water, the camera needs to be rinsed off with fresh water before salt crystals form which could damage or distort the rubber seals.
The shape of the camera is unusual, but it is easy to hold and you quickly get used to it. The controls are large for ease of use and the camera is colorful with the bright blue front panel.
The ISO 3800 setting gave grainy but reasonable results at night and the movie mode was used to record our two hour ride on Segways while touring around Old San Juan. The sound was not great because the wind was blowing, but this happens with most microphones in a strong breeze. The optical zoom is only 3x, but the digital zoom (to 12x) gives reasonable results as long as you don't want to print posters.
The D10 is an easy-to-use digital camera for beach and underwater photography, is ready to shoot in about one second, and is also light on the pocketbook. I don't want my money back!
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
We took it on our recent trip to Fiji and had an absolute blast with this little underwater camera. It was so fun and takes great photos. What surprised me was the lens - I can somehow get those nice depth of field shots out of this little camera. I highly recommend it.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I use this camera while flatwater & whitewater kayaking and camping in all weather conditions.
I do wish it had a lens cap to keep water droplets off the lens, and a neck strap. The supplied wrist strap is not convenient while paddling.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I need a rugged camera that can get wet, hot, cold, take abuse and still produce great pictures.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I gave the camera as a Christmas present with a faster disk and better battery. Daughter loves it, but she is 24 and not camera wise. In the meantime, check other reviews from users. She is real happy with it because an Abe's guy called me and told me what was needed to upgrade the camera.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
It's a little bulky, but it's still handy. Pretty good picture quality like a Canon should be.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
This camera performed magnificently during my vacation to Australia. The quality of the images is excellent for regular travel photos, but it is underwater where this camera is in its element and the performance over 10 days was exactly as promised - it was easy to operate, quick to respond to the perfect moment, and delivered completely accurate and bright colors using the underwater setting. I think the flash was engaged on some photos, although it was impossible for me to tell with the shifting light. The only challenge was remembering to engage the proper setting when I was in and out of the water. A look at the results made sure I was in the correct mode, since the settings really made a big difference in the color of the image. The ruggedness of this camera was also welcome on the beach since I didn't have to worry about getting sand in the camera. I plan on taking it skiing this winter and it will be nice not to worry about my camera getting wet or taking the odd hit.I love this camera and would recommend it absolutely for anyone planning on taking photos underwater at snorkeling depth or who wants a rugged camera for action and/or beach photos. The only drawbacks are a limited zoom range; average video (only 640x480); and a large form factor - it fit in the hip pocket of my travel pants just fine though. I could see how the size of this unit would be annoying if having a small camera is important. The only other con, which Canon solves through their great accessory kit, is the color of the camera - blue is nice for marketing, but not for day-to-day use. I bought the accessory kit to get the cable straps, but it also comes with alternative color covers which I took advantage off immediately. The sport strap is really useful and the connectors to the camera are VERY cool. It was a stroke of genius to put them on every corner of the camera body. The neoprene case was also more handy than I expected. The only bummer about the accessory kit is the price, but if you can find it for around $100, it's worth it in my opinion. Abes was great to deal with [...]. I would highly recommend both the Canon D10 camera and Abe's of Maine without hesitation.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I bought this camera to use while snorkeling, and as a companion to my full DSLR kit. Although it's not particularly pocketable, a belt pouch met my needs for portability. For causal photography out of the water it does a great job as long as you keep the ISO under 400. Underwater is where this camera really shines -pics are really phenomenal for an inexpensive camera. (Hint: use the underwater function -that's what it's there for.) No problems with leakage down to about 20 ft. I was going to get the S90, but the underwater case wasn't released in time for my vacation. I bought this instead and have been very happy with the performance overall... and for hundreds less. Its first duty was on a 1-1/2 day tuna fishing trip. It got wet, covered with fish slime and blood, but it cleaned up easily and worked like a champ.
Lag time is too long causing missed shots of fast moving fish, it's not particularly good in low light (ISO 3200 is a joke) but that's what I have the DSLR for. At low ISO (80 to 160) pictures in sunlight are really outstanding, approaching my 40D for IQ. Outstanding little camera for the price and intended use underwater or in bad weather.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I just used the camera during my trip to Fiji. The corals and fish were remarkable. My underwater photos came out sharp with accurate colors. The shutter is fast enough to catch moving fish. The camera is light and tends to float in the water.
My only complaint is that the back screen easily scratched while snorkeling. This is unfortunate for a supposedly rugged camera.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I bought this camera to use while snorkeling. That was my priority when evaluating this camera. It took excellent underwater photos of turtles, reef and fish. I was surprised how well it did in this role. I got some amazing shots snorkeling.
I also took some sunsets and landscape photos. I thought it did a nice job of that as well. The only problem is if you are shooting into a bright sun. The optics will flare a bright sun if looking into it. I imagine this is due to the sealed unit construction of the camera for underwater use. Sun Flare was not a problem underwater.
This camera powers up quickly. The only lag is after you shoot a photo it displays that on the LCD briefly. If you want to quickly shoot a second photo I would set the camera to continuous shooting mode.
While I have only used this camera on a 15 day trip I found it easy to use and operate. I would buy it again with no hesitation. If you want a camera that can be used for snorkeling or shallow diving to no greater than 35 feet I would recommend the Canon D10. Several people commented on the quality of the pictures I took on my vacation to Maui using the Canon D10. Many wanted copies of the photos.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
We recently purchased this camera and used it on a trip to Mexico. We used it to do videos in Cenotes, out in the rain, on the beach, and in the ocean. We were pleased with the quality of the pictures in all situations and the camera showed no signs of wear by the end of the trip. One thing to keep in mind is the need to dry the lens when moving from water to air. We had some air pictures that were marred by sunlight refracting through a water drop on the lens.
I feel this is a very good camera for the price and the function. The pictures aren't as good as my Canon 40D pictures, but they are as good as my Canon digital pocket camera.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I bought this camera specifically for the beach and for travel, something I don't have to pamper. The photo quality is excellent, the scene selection makes it easy, and the built in ruggedness makes it worry free.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
This is another quality product from Canon. I already own several other Canon cameras, but I wanted something for the beach, water parks, and also to be able to use for everyday photos, and this camera is perfect for that. It is a little bulky compared to the competition, but I rather have bulky than poor quality photos, and with Canon you don't have to use another camera. Just take this with you anywhere you go and you will be very happy with the results.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
This camera has the canon features I'm use to and it's waterproof. The mic works well even when wet. The speaker is a little low because of the housing and the worst part is not that bad - more glare when shooting into the sun due to the waterproof front optics. Its the first camera I have given to my children and said go have fun and even my 3-year olds are having fun with movies and pics!

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
Everything about this camera is very nice, no complaint with Canon's quality. I was debating between this one and Olympus toughstyle 8000. I like the Olympus design, looks more like a regular camera. The Canon looks like a submariner, but the quality is great. The bottom line is, I wanted a camera that take great pictures without me worrying about what kind of weather conditions I am in.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I have gone through many point and shoot underwater cameras. Sometimes taking them out daily to casually shoot surf shots so I need a small camera to tuck under my top while I also surf.
I have 3 pentax opios that have died/leaked or have just failed.
So far this Canon has the shortest shutter release delay..which is better for action shots and it seems to tough enough to withstand the pounding surf.
Pictures come out a lot sharper than the Pentax optio.
...the only drawback is the protruding lens feature. It doesn't bother me in the water, but, if you casually want to put a point and shoot in your pocket, everyone knows you have something in your pocket.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I ruined my original Canon camera that I loved on a boating trip and bought a Samsung digital as a replacement. BIG mistake. I had the camera one month and absolutely was miserable with the poor photo quality- my cell phone took better pictures than the Samsung! I bought the Canon Powershot D10 to use as my everyday camera and provide the "waterproof" protection I need. This camera takes PERFECT photos!!! The settings are easy to use (just like my old Canon- and once I found the "program" mode I was all set!), the screen is large and I love the motion option when reviewing photos- just like my original Canon, the strap feature that allows it to be at any corner of the camera is wonderful and the underwater mode is great! The video feature works great as well and provides great sound. The battery life is adequate, but I also have an extra battery as a back-up should I be traveling and not want to miss any photo ops! Two drawbacks: I haven't been able to find an "action" mode/setting and it is a little bulky when compared to other waterproof cameras. However, the picture quality is REMARKABLE. In two weeks the camera went boating and survived a week's vacation which included the pool every day. Great underwater shots of the kids in the pool! Overall, a great camera and a wonderful buy!

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
I picked up this camera to use primarily in situations where I'm just not comfortable bringing along my Canon XSi dSLR. I also picked up a flotation strap for the D10, and now I can have a camera with me anywhere, be it whitewater rafting, snorkeling, or anywhere else that I might worry about my larger camera.
Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
[...]Pros: Sleek looking, easy to use, waterproof.Cons: Poor picture quality in low light. Have not tested if it is shock proof. But during my 3 days trip (rafting one day, touring city the other two), did get scratches on the blue cover and on the lense cover. Did not affect pic quality, but annoying after only light use.

Comments about Canon PowerShot D10 Waterproof and Shockproof Digital Camera:
1st camera I've bought without touching it first and I will never do that again. I upgraded from my 5mp Pentax WP and expected similar size with the D10. It just barely fits in my pocket...but the pictures are excellent, the face recognition is more useful than I expected, and I am adapting to its size. I will be taking it on a 5 day wild river canoe trip in a couple week and will give it a real workout. The Pentax did not have stabilization, and I lost many pictures taken from my bobbing canoe. I believe the D10 stabilization will save my bacon on this trip.
