Comments about Canon Powershot SD4000 IS 10mp Digital Camera - Silver:

This was purchased as a replacement to a "lens failure" (random?) 1.5 year-old Canon SD4000is, and by comparison, adds better still photography, has an interesting slow-motion 320x240 video mode, and a semi-HD video mode, all of which include a horribly slow - but functional - optical zoom during recording, which the SD4000is did not. The controls are fairly intuitive (prefer the SD4000IS), it's very portable, but it's also presumably fragile, certainly feels fragile, is curvy and as slick as a wet bar of soap. Bad combo in these clumsy hands. Overall, would have preferred or been completely satisfied if the other $300-400 camera had lasted careful and infrequent use of more than a couple years. If this one can do that, it will be worth the price tag - the video in low light situations and (though again here it falls short of the SD4000IS slightly) digital macro are features that deserve the cost for those looking for more than a "hold very still and pray" image-taker. As a replacement for a $5,000 dSLR Canon, it simply is not, but one slips into a pocket, the other into a golf bag - for what it is, it's fine.
