If you take the flash off, the image stabilizer does not work, so if you are a low light or landscape person, you will not get good images unless yo have an incredibly stable hand, and it is more sensitive to motion than most. The shutter speed seems really slow, especially if the flash has to be on for any pic to remain in focus. It seemed good in theory, but I felt the performance was poor at best. The few pics that came out were very nice resolution, but with a distinct distortion from the flash.

This camera is fantastic. It is really easy to use and it has several features on it that are also fun to use if you know how to use them. You can point and shoot or you can change the features and take close up photos, far away photos, night photos and so on. Also the stabilizer on this one is better than the ones on other Canon Cameras I have used. I usually purchase Canon but the A series or G series. At first I was a little leary, however I have really grown to like this camera. I would recommend it to the beginner or even someone who is an enthusiast or semi pro photographer who just wants a point and shoot and not have to haul around and SLR. In fact that was the main reason I purchased this camera. I didn't want to haul around an SLR and wanted to be able to keep a camera around at all times in my purse. This is perfect and takes great photos.

I think this is an excellent point-and-shoot camera. I will be using it for "record" shots and informal family and friends photos. I would not hesitate to use it for scenic vacation shots.
Easy to carry; very good results; and non-intrusive when out shooting among people.

I took it on vacation to Alaska and it took beautiful pictures of the Glaziers, whales and mountains. It travels easy, because of the size and weight. Fits right in a pocket or pocketbook. The clarity and color of the pictures is remarkable. I highly recomend it for someone that wants a camera for casual use or for getting more involved in photography.

I owned the sibling SD500 for years and if it weren't that it and the waterproof case were dropped into the Potomac River, I would not have considered another camera. Having said that the only logical choice was another Canon camera and with time all great things get better and the SD950IS is no exception. I like the ease of use and flexibility this style camera has. I have already taken it to Canada (Niagara), Disney!, Sea World, Hershey PA!, and my personal favorite; Paintball. It takes flawless pictures and is extremely mobile.
The only draw back is the flash but that is a limitation of all cameras in this group. I seem to have problems with indoor shots not wanting to use the flash do to the auto settings and selecting a higher ISO. I often find myself turning the camera to a manual mode so I can select a dedicated flash.
The video for this camera is awesome and I find the only short comings here is the lack of a remote and HD. As I often show my vids on a large 56" HDTV after the trips, and everyone is at awe over the quality and sound.
I don't think you can find a better all round camera for the casual photographer, as most of us are. The battery life is excellent and you can use a 4 SDHC card (I think I've used my 8 SDHC card also) which will give more than enough space for vids and pics.
Best bang for the buck; I highly recommend this camera.

I have had all types of cameras. I used digital cameras for a couple of years and was not happy with them so I went back to a 35mm film camera. My main problem was camera shake. I lost count of the amount of photos I took that were ruined because the subject wasn't clear. This camera has removed that problem. The photos are great. I would recommend this camera to anyone. Enjoy.

I love this camera and use it when I dont want to tote around my canon 30D digital SLR. It takes wonderful pictures both indoors and outdoors and is very simple to use. It is also a fairly rugged camera. You will want to get the longer life battery that abe's sells because the battery that comes with it is quickly in need of charging. The longer life battery holds a charge about 3 times longer than the battery that is included.

This camera works great. I purchased the extended battery and fast 8GB SD card from Abe's alos and have been very satisfied. Shoots great video for a camera, which I use to make movies and post on YouTube. Pictures are hi-resolution adn look fabulous. Controls are simple and screen is big and bright.
Only drawback is some shutter lag, but nothing I cant live with.

This is a great camera. I do however recommend that you get the longer life battery that Abe's sells as the included battery has a very short life. The camera is small, compact and very easy to use. I highly recommend this as an camera for someone who whats and small dependable camera. I use this camera as a backup for my canon 30D which is my primary camera. I wanted a smaller camera that I can use for capturing shots when I do not have my digital SLR camera with me.
