I like canon cameras, so I bought this new touchscreen camera, this camera is filled with features but you need to learn how to use it, so don't throw away manual after you open box. You will need manual if you want to use all the features, even tough its little bit tough to use all the features. picture quality is good but could have been better. I find image stabilization poor. Video quality is good. Good low light performance. Overall nice camera for starters and basic photographers.

I just used this little beauty to travel to Australia, Philippines, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Japan. Loved it. Took some amazing shots, battery life always lasted around two days (perfect), was light, nimble, and everyone who has seen my pics has asked me what kind of DSLR I have... definitely worth the money.

It is so small to carry on, and easy to use. Recently, I carried it to visit niagara falls, it made my big camera lost the chance of performance. It is light, small, easy, and it can shoot video. In conclusion,It is great small camera.

I bought this camera primarily for its small size and wide angle lens. Have only had it a few weeks, but am very satisfied. It replaces may Canon G5 which had bad shutter lag. The SD980 is great for taking quick pictures on the run. The touch screen is more useful than I expected, but not essential. It has great playback/review to be sure you got a good shot. Face and scene detection is good, but not great. The wide-screen mode is great, the HDMI output and movie quality is better than expected. I bought several (3) aftermarket hi-capacity batteries (for long day trips) and an HDMI switch and cable. Great deal in all. Very satisfied.
The only cons so far is (1) in auto mode the ISO is too high in low light levels and takes grainy pictures. Manual mode solves this, but I would prefer not having to resort to manual. (2) the outdoor pictures seem a bit over exposed, again fixed by manual mode, and (3) there is no superfine alias mode so you need to take larger picture files to get the same picture quality.
