The S1000fd is a very good alternative to the ultra-compact digital cameras. Its SLR-like body is solidly constructed and the controls and buttons are well placed. The camera is still relatively small, but the large hand grip makes for easy holding. The 12X zoom range is more than adequate for my needs. The pictures are sharp and the color accuracy is excellent. So far the original batteries are still working (2+ weeks). No major faults with the camera. Just a couple of minor quibbles; could have vibration reduction especially for the long end of the zoom, and the wide end could be wider (about a 28mm equivalent). All in all, a camera that would satisfy most non professional photographers.

Nice camera! I really like it. Only complaints are that you can't zoom while you are shooting video and that I haven't mastered the art of taking action shots that aren't blurry. I know it can be done, just haven't figured out how yet. Other than that, I love it. Great price, great quality and takes awesome close-up (zoom)photos!

im a soldier currently deployed overseas. i bought this camera because i was in the market for an upgrade. i stumbled on this camera by mistake but i was glad to go for it. i was looking window shopping at the many different versions of this camera on many web sites but when it came down to it. this web site had the best deal! in fact the deal was so perfect that after i purchased it. another soldier looked it up and bought one right after me and when the camera came in and put it to the test we have a few more soldiers currently purchasing the same camera. i just recently used it for a uso show that was thrown for us and the camera worked perfect! a lot of the low light shots i took came out perfectly! im glad i found this camera on this web site!

I throw the camera in my pocket to take hunting with me. It's very good for grabbing the nature shot here and there. Don't expect to get any wall hangers out of this camera though.

I bought the Fine Pix 1000 to teach my wife photography. At a remarkable price its technical diversity provides ease of use, a high quality optical zoom great handling and high digital resolution with all the menu setup of more expensive cameras.
Fuji should contact me because I also own the 5200 and 9000 fine pix. My life has been about professional photography from directing aerial photography ( Top Gun, Firebirds, Hot Shots) to professionally using Nikon.
But now I have transitioned to Digital photography exclusively with Fine Pix cameras. The result ? I possess one of New Mexico's beautiful libraries featuring...150,000 stunning photos. I believe I can sell any aspiring photographer to train on Fine Pix cameras at a competitive price

This camera was purchased to replace my Fuji5200 (which replaced my 3200); I have been so impressed with my first two cameras that I really wanted to upgrade. While this camera is great in low light, it feels much cheaper than the 5200; the controls feel light-weight, the on-off switch is awkward, the flash is less sturdy,etc. The pictures (landscapes, kids,pets, nature) still garner compliments, but I don't enjoy the camera as much. Also, most of the owner's manual is contained on a disk, though you get THREE abreviated manuals so as to cover languages other than English. I like being able to tuck the manual in my travel bag when on vacation, in case something out of the ordinary comes up. The battery life in this camera is fantastic (as it has been in my other Fujis) and the fact that it takes AA batteries makes replacement simple wherever we may be.

I highly resisted going from 35mm film cameras (SLRs) to digital. The first cameras produced photos that I thought were unfocused, color impaired, etc. My sister bought this camera and then I bought one. It has converted me. If you are using this camera for situations requiring rapid sequence of shots, you might need the relatively expensive lithium batteries - or a camera with a lot more battery vs. 4 AA's. Rechargeable NiCds work ok for casual shooting, but not well for action sequences on auto settings.

This is a terrific camera, but please take the time to read the instruction manual. It will give you hours of fun and creativity, as well as amazing pictures. Our camera arrived two days before vacation and I read the manual on the airplane. The pictures from vacation are the best I have ever taken!
