First off... this is a Nikon for under $100. Awesome! Huge screen, super easy to use, takes great pictures, and uses "AA" batteries. Nothing I hate more than grabbing the camera to take pictures on a trip and finding out my batteries aren't charged. You can buy "AA"'s any where.

Negatives:Super easy to use = not as many options,
we found that the camera does have some trouble with certain colors and lighting. We have a couch with "Chinese Red" cushions and the pictures turned out some terrible shade of pink with detail loss, even after trying different lighting.

Bottom Line: For it's price range it is an excellant camera, fun and easy to use, takes great pictures (mostly) and can be taken anywhere.

This is the best camera I have ever used. I'm impatient and hate to read instructions. I hate lag on cameras and I want to point and click. This is everything I could ever dream of for a camera! Bought this for my Mom-Super easy to use,easy to grip-especially for older hands,LCD HUGE.I use a Canon SD1100- retail $350.00.This Nikon-a close 2nd place and for under a $100.00price is right! Don't get stuck on the color. Red is nice. Blue is nice if not even nicer!

I am a big fan of Nikon products. I have had several Coolpix cameras and have been happy with all of them. The L18 I bought for my wife because she just wanted a point and shoot camera for family and vacations. It is compact enough for her to carry it in her purse or pocket. Startup time is not lightning fast but fast enough for our needs. I plan on buying a Nikon D80 or D90 for more serious photography later but for now we are very happy With our L18. For the cost vs. features it really was a great deal. We also looked at the CoolPix S210 but she liked the feel of the L18 in her hand better.

Great quality for a camera that only costs [$]. Nothing fancy about this camera but produces high quality point and click pictures. Great portable size for keeping in your purse or car. We bought it to use at Disney World instead of lugging around our larger more expensive camera. Was surprised it has no low battery warning (always carry extra batteries because you never know when it will stop.) Also there are very few editing tools on the camera itself. Overall, a good buy.

For first time digital camera owner, I find it easy to use. The pictures so far are clear and reproduce nicely on my computer. I think I would like it a little larger because it's hard at my age (83) to use some of the functions.
My biggest criticism has to do with the booklet that accompanied the camera. I would like a better explanation of the uses of the various functions and settings. Not everyone has had experience with the choices.
So far, I am pleased that I bought it. Nikon has had a good reputation and this camera shows it.

This replaces a Nikon L3. There was nothing really wrong with the L3 (great camera also). The L18's display is a lot larger though and there is less shutter lag time. The greater number of pixels with the L18 was a non-issue.

While I wish it were a bit thinner (for pocket storage), it is not an issue and is no thicker than the L3. I considered other thinner cameras but in the end decided that this one was better because it can use both regular batteries and rechargeables.

You can easily obtain fresh batteries if you get caught out somewhere with dead ones. However you can't necessarily find a place (or the time) to recharge built-in ones. Sometimes I will take 150-200 pictures in a single day. This camera easily does it on a set of batteries (and many more).

Photo quality is great, features and options are adequate.

I have owned Nikon cameras for a very long time (I have a D200 setup as well), but this is my knock-around "pocket" camera. I have also owned other brand digital point and clicks such as Olympus but always come back to Nikon.

I have been using Cannon camera for long time and thought to go for this Nikon camera to gift my parents as a digital start up camera..but using this camera for very first time makes me feel sad by seeing piture quality . I have taken same photo from both Cannon 750 & Nikon camera .. the difference was very significant. The color, brightness and overall quality of Nikon wasn't satisfactory. I would recommend to spend few more dollar and go for Cannon or other better quality product.

I am a fan of Nikon cameras. I have L6 but I was not happy with its long lag time. L18 is a much better camera. Screen is big and controls are easy too use. It doesn't have a great camera face recognition s/w but still it works for me.

My first digital camera was a nikon coolpix 2500. It was tiny and robust, I loved it. After I accidentally drop it into sea water, I had to buy a second digital camera: a canon. That canon was big and difficult to use. So I switch back to nikon. My third digital camera is this coolpix L18. It is impressive. It's about the half price of my first nikon, yet has more functions, bigger storage, more Megapixels, bigger LCD. Maybe in several years I will buy another nikon to enjoy more benefits of tech development.

I bought two Coolpix L18 cameras for my 14 and 11 year old granddaughters for Christmas and they love them. Easy to use and the pictures are great. The 11 year old already has taken 245 pictures and didn't even have to read the instructions to work the camera. She has even made a video. They are both thrilled and take them everywhere they go.

I will say that it is very easy to use...menus are simple. It has a 2.5 inch LCD screen which is big enough. Also the picture quality is great for close pictures and also handy. At high zoom level, the picture quality is bad.Also photo editing options are less.

The Camera is easy to use, cost effective and compact. Since this camera uses AA sized batteries, there is no need to carry the charger around when going for trips.

I aleady own a costlier digtal camera, which is rather bulky to carry around. I got this, as it's compact and I can easily carry around in my pocket. However I found the photos not capturing the colors very well compared to my earlier camera, which produces very crisp pictures. But I still like this one.

I would suggest this camera to anyone who just wants to capture moments and not really worry about the intricate details and colour quality.

Battery could be better and give more warning time, but it's easy to get AAs. Screen size is great for us folks that are squinting more! Nikon lens makes great contrast on landscapes and does pretty good at highway speed as well from a moving motorcycle on point and shoot.

Light weight, good quality photos, slow startup from the off setting, this is the 5th camera I have owned in the coolpix line.
Excellent value for the money, highly reccomend as an all purpose inexpensive camera.

The Nikon L18 is a great little camera. My daughter actually is the primary user and she does a lot of videos as well as still photos. The only drawback with it is the typical shutter lag that is present in every low-end, low-priced camera. It's definitely not like the Nikon SLRs, D40, D50, etc. which there is NO lag at all. The resolution rivals that of my D50 and it's a great value for the price! It also uses the SD card which my D50 uses so we don't have to buy different kinds of memory cards.
