Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

It's a lot of camera. And most of it I love. I wish Nikon was standard about button placement. I keep hitting the wrong thing because everything was in a different place on my previous camera -- D80.

I also don't think the noise control is as good as I've read.

Great camera. I whish it had the GPS built-in instead of as an expensive option, and the optional grip/battery compartment makes all-day shooting possible.

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

[...] great price [...]. Nikon D300 great feel camera and quality of pictures under many conditions even in P mode come out spectacular. Camera has so much customization that pretty much possibilities are endless!!!Paired it with nikon vr zoom lens 18-200mm f/3.5 g pretty much Jack of all trades glass!!! I am not fan of the concept having many lenses in the bag while in the field. Especially changing them, dust and sensor bad combination. I am more than happy with this set up.

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

I am a semi-pro photographer and I bought this camera as an upgrade to the Nikon D40x. It is FANTASTIC!! There is a lot to it but once you have a chance to go through all the controls and get familliar with it, it is amazing! I focus mostly on photojournalism and portraits but you could use this camera for any type of photography. I searched online for the best price for weeks and Abe's of Maine was the lowest price out there. Order it today if you haven't already!

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

The camera just feels "right". It fits my hand well and the controls are very logically located. There is one control that has been a small issue and all users need to be aware of is the "Focus Mode" switch. With the switch in Manual or Single, it can be accidentally moved to Continuous by the left hand when supporting the camera/lens. I’ve done it a couple of times, but hopefully, have finally learned.

Another small issue that may be a little hard on the photographic budget is the camera seductively demands and actually deserves professional (ie: expensive) lenses. I’m up to seven now!

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

I picked up the D300 to replace my D70. I have been shooting with Nikon for 13 years and have always had a good experience with their product. I was comfortable with the controls of the D70 and the D300 is a really nice advancement upon them, with tremendous ability to customize. I went with the body only and picked up the Sigma 18-200 rather than the Nikon in order to save a bit. I have been very pleased with the results with this combination.
My only complaint to this point is some slight noise with my images. Perhaps my expectations were a bit too high based on the reviews I had read. I am still working on learning the best settings so hopefully in time I can tweak those issues out.

I just switched over from Canon, and this camera is a treat to use. The build is so much better than what I was use to. Nikons flash system is so reliable and accurate. Noise seems to be well controlled. the 3inch screen is a nice welcome if you preview alot. i will admit setting up the camera was a little time consuming, but once you have it set the images are phenominal! i couldnt be happier with my switch.

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

I have had the camera for a few weeks now and just "really" used it during an event this weekend - that is because it took me that long to figure out all the different options and settings, etc. This is NOT a point and click camera and will requires some studying, trial and error and patience until you get the camera set to the way you shoot. I upgraded from a D70 which was very simple to use. I feel like I just went from a Hyundai to a Mercedes. The time and patience however are sooooo worth it. I use to think there was not a camera out there that could match my D70, but the D300 blew away my D70 in all but focus speed. I am still working on getting my D300 to be as responsive as my D70 when it comes to fast action sports, as of right now the D300 does not focus as fast and seems to get lost way more than my D70 and I am praying that this is fixable with some minor focal options otherwise although the quality and clearity of the photos is awesome, what good is it if I can't get that winning touch down catch?[...]

MY first set of pictures had a smudge I didn't notice till loading on the computer. When I relized it wasn't on the lens I thought I had a problem. I used it's auto clean/dust function and all was clean again. So far the camera has taken great pictures under some poor conditions. In the long run it will probably make me look good, dispite my lack of training.

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

I've only had the D300 for a week, and took a number of pictures at high ISO settings (1600). I found the image quality to be significantly better with far less noise than my previous Nikons. Not having used preprogramed modes, I do not miss them on the D300, however, I can program them in if I so choose. This camera is a pleasure learning all the intricacies.

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

I'm a serious shooter (just not for hire) and the D300 suits my needs excellently. I had an initial issue with autofocus but resolved it quickly. Oustanding images - very sharp. Battery life is better than my D200. The customize button functions, Info button, and My Menu are my favorites. Camera is heavy but that is a good & bad thing. I like it. Don't like the MB-D10 battery layout - like D200's better but will live with it. Super performance in low light. Love the bracketing coupled with high shutter speed setting - makes bracketing much easier. I only wish I had purchased sooner.

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

I replaced a Nikon D100 with this camera. I was interested in an incremental improvement; better image quality, better ASA speed, better functionality. What I got was a relatively inexpensive camera with no professional compromises.

I like to shoot available light and this camera delivers incredible low light performance; low noise, great light sensitivity.

It's going to be hard for Nikon to top this.

This is my first DSLR, which I use with a Nikon F2.8 17-55mm lens.

The only downside is that the Nikon lenses that I like are rather expensive.

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

I use this primarily as a back-up unit and it is outstanding as an entry level pro camera. Very similar to the D200 in every way except slightly higher pixelation rate and better in low light. If you can't swing the cost and don't need low light/high ISO capabilities the D200 is the best value but the D300 is a bit superior.

Comments about Nikon D300 12.3 effective megapixel Digital SLR Camera (Body Only):

Excellent features. It takes a little time to get used to the multitude of possibilities, but after a little while I was convinced this was a wonderful purchase. Although Nikon released the D90 a week or so after I purchased the D300, I have no regrets, and I look forward to many beautiful pictures.
The only difficulty may be resolved over time. I found that the pictures look different on the on-camera screen than on my computer screen. I suppose once the perfect combination is found, this issue will be resolved.

I use this camera mostly for travel and scenic photography, however I've used it for portraits and various other situations and it works great. If I have one issue, it would be the weight while traveling. I use some fast and heavy lenses, which doesn't help the situation either.

I did have an issue with the sharpness at first, especially with my 70-200 lens. But, with the feature to fine tune my lenses to the camera, that problem is in the past and now I get fantastic results.

My only complaint so far has been that the battery compartment door has one broken hinge (it's plastic) and I will need to send it in for repair. I don't want to part with it, so I'm being extra careful until I finally have to bite the bullet and get it fixed. This was a big jump up for me, from the D70. I love everything about this camera and think it's a good investment for the price.
