When more funds are available, we will be a more professional body, but keep this one

Comments about Nikon D3000 10.2 Megapixel Digital SLR Camera w/ 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR & 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6G VR Lenses:

I purchased this as an entry into the dslr world. Having been a film person, it was difficult to make the switch, but I'm glad I did. The lenses provide a really good range for the price.

I shot approx 900 photos on the 1st battery charge. I spent a fair amount of time reviewing the shots on the camera and culling from there. I was well-pleased with this over many cameras that don't do nearly as well.

I like some of the editing capabilities in the monochrome - such as making the sepia tones lighter or darker. The camera automatically saves it as a second image, so no worries about over-writing your original. Only bad is when you make a change like that, your photo goes to the end and you have to wade through a bunch to get back to where you were.

The bag is really sturdy and has room for everything in the kit.

This camera is fantastic. Whether you are an enthusiast looking for a DSLR that doesn't break the bank or if this is your first DSLR... it's perfect!

Takes amazing photos, has all the manual settings but will do it all in auto if necessary. The GUIDE is great... it brings up menus so you can set up your ISO/Shutter/Aperture settings and explains their purpose even if you don't know all the lingo. Then it lets you take the pictures right in GUIDE mode. Next time once you understand the different modes, you can select the mode yourself.

Fit and finish is excellent. The body feels perfect in your hands and it is compact and light compared to other DSLR's. Buy it!

I am certainly no pro. This is my first DSLR camera. I also own a Nikon P80 which I love. I have a lot to learn with a DSLR but I am looking forward to it. The pictures so far are awesome and that is barely using any of the features the camera offers. I shopped quite a bit for this camera and found Abe's of Maine to have the best price.

I've been using point and shoot digitals for years and decided to buy a 'real' camera this time. The D3000 with two lenses is providing me with spectacular photos of wildlife, flowers, sunsets, friends and family. I have never taken such beautiful photos and I still don't know much about photography, but I'm learning !

I am still learning all the different settings. I am happy with the pictures I have taken so far.

Now about Abe's of Maine - They were very easy to deal with. Gave me everything promised and in a timely manner. I will shop Abe's of Maine again.

The biggest complaint I've read about this camera is the relatively slow response of the Active D-Lighting feature. It is very slow sometimes, but you don't have to use this feature; it can be turned on and off easily. In fact, the manual adjustments, while new and different to me at first (compared to other DSLRs), are actually very easy to use. Nikon has made a really simple user interface with the D3000: perfect for the casual photographer who wants to get some more range out of a digital camera.

The included lenses are quite good, and the autofocus so far is excellent. I quite enjoy using this camera, but I did a lot of research and knew what I was getting.

I purchased this for my girlfriend who is getting into photography. Initially, we considered a D5000 but settled on the D3000 since it is smaller and we did not need the high resolution. Overall a great beginner camera. Note that the zoom on the lens is between 3x and 3.6x so if you are looking for high zoom capability, it may be better to just get the 10-55 lens and then get a 18-135mm or 70-300mm lens.

Other good accessories: 2nd battery (for travel) and a UV lens kit. And a warranty with accidental damage to protect the camera!
