This is my main wildlife setup. After using the D200 for a few years the D300S is a great improvement in focus speed and acquisition, as well as about a 1-stop improvement in noise control. The LCD is also an improvement that makes it easier on my older eyes.

This camera is all that anyone could really need. There are enough bells and whistles to give the user great control over the image quality. Most of the controls are intuitive and the customizeable controls are great. If this camera were 24Mp and had a full 35mm size chip, it would be perfect.

This camera is a great upgrade to the D50 I have used. The controls are a lot better, the resolution is great, and the speed sure helps with low light situations. I really like the dual card capability that allows to shoot raw and JPG at the same time.

This is a wonderful step up from my Nikon D70. It is definitely more high tech and has features and quality of shots that I would imagine are comparable to more expensive professional models.

There is a steep learning curve from the D70, and although the basic features are similar, there is a lot more technical expertise to be developed on taking pictures in general. It can be set to do all the work, or you can learn as you go and become a better photographer.

Amazing pro quality body with very fast autofocus system, good high ISO compabilities, consistent dynamic range, and rich feature set. This body addresses all the limitations of an entry level body like the D40, D40X, and D60 and any short comings from a prosumer grade body like the D90. Dual card feature is a big bonus allowing for backup images or storing JPGs in one card and raw files in the other.
