Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
I love the pre settings.
When hicking Auto setting is great for the quick shoots.
Aperture setting is great in composition to control depth of field when time allows set-up.
Shutter speed control is fantastic when shooting fast action sports.
Manual control is great for the more intermediate skill lever. Great for total control.

Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
I previously had a Kodak Z1015 P&S, before I bought my D5000. It was fun, had a nice zoom and it had an attractive body, but none the less, it didn't do what I needed when I needed it.
Then I got my D5000 and it is a substantially better camera, it is much quicker to boot up, amazing low light and usable pics up to ISO 1600. Plus it auto-focused quite a bit faster with much better image quality. It also has video and live view, although I hardly use live view except for tripod work, but auto-focusing in it is slow. The video is fun to play around with, but it isn't a replacement for a camcorder.
This is an excellent camera that I would recommend to anybody.

Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
I use this gem primarily for artistic photos and my precious granddaughter. It captures images like no other camera I have ever used from my olympus e20 to my old sony that first came out in the early 90's with digital photography. The controls on this camera make it more like creating a work of art rather than just taking a picture. Hats off to Abe's as well no high pressure just professional guidance in making the most of your purchase, not to mention that Abe's had the best price for this gem of a camera. I have already started expanding my lens inventory with the purchase of the 70-300 VBR nikor lens and was amazed how things got even better with my creations. I like to think of my photos as creations rather than just pictures. The D5000 gives me the right tools to create things as I see them. Thank you Nikon and thank you Abe's for getting us together.

I use mine for family snapshots. I'm far from a pro, but the camera makes me look good. I got a great deal from Abe's of Maine!

Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
I am totally new to the dSLR models, I've used a film SLR camera before, and I used a point and shoot. All of them were Nikons. I am very pleased with the D5000 because of its ease of use, it took me no time to figure out the interface. The manual is pretty basic but helpful. I bought it without any lenses and thought that I could use my older N55 AF lens, which worked ok, but the D5000 states clearly that it doesn't have the AF motor so your lens has to have it instead. I went ahead and bought a 50-200 AF-S VR lens which works great with the D5000. It is a great deal Price/Quality combination is quite impressive.

Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
This camera has a great sensor and performs wonderfully in low light. The compact size and quiet shutter make it great for travel photography.
The articulating LCD is much more of a gimmick than a truly useful feature, but is nice to have for that once-in-six-months occasion when you actually are going to use it. I would gladly trade it for a bigger viewfinder.
Unfortunately, this camera has a number of significant downsides compared to other SLRs in this price range. First, its viewfinder is one of the smallest in this class -- smallest among all other Nikon SLRs and smaller than all Canon's SLRs. Additionally, and more importantly, the D5000's controls leave much to be desired. Unlike most other SLRs in this class, which use the directional buttons as a shortcut to often-used functions (like setting ISO or WB or AF mode), in the D5000, the directional buttons can only be used to change the active AF point. This makes changing many of the camera's settings extremely slow, since you have to go through the (quite long) menus. For those who are buying this SLR hoping to learn photography, this will become a major stumbling block.
Shooting with the built-in flash is extremely frustrating -- the shutter lag between when you press the shutter button and the picture actually being taken is loooong, due to the flash charge time. This is much worse than my experience with the Canon Rebel series.
I'm also somewhat mystified by its metering. Many times, it's spot on. In some situations, however, it tends to underexpose by about 2/3 to 5/3 stops. It does this fairly unpredictably.
Within those limitations, it's still a very nice camera and I would still recommend it for a friend, but I'd also advise people considering it to look at competing options from Canon and other manufacturers.

Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
The Nikon quality shows through in the D5000. Just the right size and weight for semi-pro use. The D5000 has many settings and features that will take time to get familiar with. Coming from film to digital, I think I made the right choice with the Nikon D5000!

Upgraded from the D60 to the D5000 and I am glad that I did. The D60 was great, but this camera has so many more features, including HD video recording.

Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
There are known issues with the D5000 camera and they have to be shipped back to Nikon to be fixed. I just received my D5000 and the serial number appears on the list. Very disappointing to receive something that needs work. [...]
Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
Nikon has come up with a unique combination of years of digital improvements in allowing consumers to purchase the D5000. I am impressed by the ease it is to facilitate photos without too much knowledge of photographic terminology. The D5000 allows the novice and professional the tool to develop a quality image for an inexpensive price.Compared to other SLRs this camera will prevail as the top leader in the digital industry for years to come.

Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
I shoot flowers and birds. The camera is easy to use, light in weight and proves itself a real Nikon. I haven't really gotten into the video component as yet so I can't comment on it. But it's a good camera that produces Nikon clarity.

Comments about Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera Body:
I just needed the chip and the flip (large CMOS Sensor/articulating LCD). With ISO up to 6400, 4fps, fast autofocus, compact size and very solid build, I'm not sure why anyone would pay more for the other models, other than going full-frame/pro. The D5000 performs beautifully with third party prime lenses as well e.g. Sigma 50mm EX DG F/1.4 and Tokina wides. I took a few hundred shots in NYC several weeks ago - all sharp and bright (of course, lenses are everything). One note: Autofocus works only on lenses designated AFS or similar so be sure to check the lense firsthand unless you prefer to shoot manual. As an example, the D5000 will take a Tokina 12-24mm DX but it won't autofocus, however the Tokina 12-24mm DXII autofocus is superb (the DXII is the AFS flavor of the 12-24).
