Comments about Nikon D5000 D-SLR Camera With 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR & 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens:

This is virtually a pro camera that gives you 19 scene modes to set exposures or allows you to set your own exposures. Images are crisp with excellet color.Burst mode gives you 3.5 to 4 frames per second, great for sports action. Video seems to work well, although I have not used it alot.Battery life is good, but I bought a second battery which has come in handy once thus far.The 18-55/55-200 VR lenses are a good combination. The VR (vibration reduction) system in each lens works extremely well and probably gives you 1 to 2 F stops in low light. If you are a point and shoot type of photographer, this camera is probably an overkill, although it can be used that way on "auto."The D-5000 allows you to easily transition from "point and shoot" to a more professional camera first by using the 19 scene modes and then by using the more custome features. There is a learning curve to this camera, which was helped alot by the two Nikon instructional DVDs and the Nikon School book Abes of Maine included. Take time to look at the DVDs, they are very helpful and simplify the use of the camera.Abes of Maine had good price[...]

Comments about Nikon D5000 D-SLR Camera With 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR & 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens:

Bought this camera about 3 days before leaving for Africa...and loved it! Didn't have time to read the manual before we left, but we just threw it on automatic and the pictures came out great. Our friends have been encouraging us to sell some to National Geographic, because that's how incredble they came out...and that's coming for amature photogs! I'm sure it's capable of a lot more. We had some trouble in dark lighting, but there are probably work arounds. The battery life is great, though we bought the extended life at an additional cost (well worth it).

The reason I gave "Finally.... Now I have my Nikon !!!" in title is because, it took me 2 months to decide which SLR to buy and one month to find the right source to buy it. My first catch was the Nikon D3000 (which I almost bought) or one of the Canon EOS models, but when I came to know that its not the camera which gives VR (Vibration Reduction) and its the lens, did not think twice. Just took it. I spoke with 4-5 pro photographers and then decided upon Nikon D 5000. I dont have to explain you in detail of what its capable of, but I would say if you are a semi/advanced photographer, this would fit you best. [...]Grab this.... you will never regret. :-)Hope this review helps someone.

The video is okay but I have not messed to much with that feature yet. Nice option to have though. I have lots to learn about this camera since it is my first DSLR. If your on the fence about buying this camera I say take a chance and get it you will not be disappointed. [...]

The difference between this camera and a "good" digital camera is immense. There really is no comparison. It is nice to actually see the action when photographing action shots during my son's hockey games. I took over 600 pictures in two days of which only 30-40 are trash. The rest caputured the moment(s) beautifully.

I upgraded from a D50. I preferred the larger, heavier size of the D50. However, I really missed the articulated screen I had on my Coolpix 5700. While the D5000 is lighter and smaller than the D50, it has that great articulated screen I had on my old coolpix. The D5000 is an upgrade in every way (except size) from the D50. It would be nice if Nikon would give the multiple program profiles I had on the 5700 (you could set up three separate user set program files). Overall I am very happy with this camera.

Quick shutter response and all the features you're looking for in a digital SLR. Gave it to my wife and she's stoked on how easy it was to pick up and start taking great shots. Nikon provides great little tutorials on their website that anybody can understand, pick up the camera and go to town. Whether you're shooting full auto or manual a great camera for all!

Comments about Nikon D5000 D-SLR Camera With 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR & 55-200mm f/4.0-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens:

I got this Camera for my wife b/c she was looking to take the next step into the realm of D-SLR. After much research I landed on the D5000, and I'm glad I did. I can't imagine a better set up for the money. Great quality pics and many easy to use features. Like anything else, you have to spend time in order to learn all of the features, but regardless of your level of "expertise" you can get great results right out of the box. ABE's gave a great deal and helped me with my selection....thanks ABE's!!

We wanted a camera for the family to take fast photos of the kid. We needed something that the wife could easily use (point n shoot with minimal fuss) and I could grow with as I learn more about photography and life with a DSLR. It's filled both roles admirably. It's fast with great quality photos and the right size - not too large to be cumbersome when you're carrying kid stuff as well!

I would say it's a great starter DSLR with enough features to be able to grow into the world of photography.

I have a lot of experience with film SLRs but this is my first digital SLR. I've only used it a few times but so far I'm very impressed with the image quality. The 200+ page manual is a little intimidating at first, but once you take the time to learn the basics it's not too bad. Overall a really great camera!
