I am using the Auto program setting until I get more familiar with the camera. There is a lot to get familiar with and will take some time.

I like the speed and the LCD display.
Have nothing yet that I dislike about it other than it is a little heavier than I expected, but it also appears to be durable.

This is a very good camera at a very good price. A large step up from the point and shoots.
This camera is capable of exceptional photos with regard to detail and color. I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to get serious about photography. I would also make two more suggestions. Buy a supplemental guide for this camera to get the most out of it. Do a very through review of the many lense's this camera will accept. I highly recommend the 18-70mm, the 70-300mm vr and the 50mm prime.

Comments about Nikon D80 10.2 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera (Camera Body):

Got this body a few weeks ago to upgrade from my D40. It's nice to have the sensor from the D200 but the biggest advantages were support for the AF series lenses and wireless flash control. Focusing my 50mm AF 1.4 lens manually was just not working on the D40. It's more complicated and slightly bigger and heavier but not so much that it matters. The only downside I've seen is the poorer multi-selector on the back. For [$], it seems to be a steal compared the D90. The wireless flash control is amazing. I haven't taken enough shots to be able to compare image quality with the D40.

This has been a great pick up for me, I was looking for a dslr that wasn't to complicated to use, but would allow me to grow as I became a better photographer. I took this camera down to the DC National Mall and got some fantastic night shots of the monuments with the 50 mm 1.4 D lens. I'm looking forward to Baseball season so I can take it to the Park and see how it does with live action shots. No buyers remorse what so ever

Comments about Nikon D80 10.2 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera (Camera Body):

I just upgraded from a D50 to a D80. For the money, this was an excellent upgrade! The camera is typical Nikon good quality. The photographs are great, shutter speed is great as usual. So far, a lot of the features are the same. I like the increased lcd size and even some minor improvements like the way you zoom in to preview a picture (it was kinda complicated on the D50 and they've made it easier). I still haven't figured out and gone through all the improvements/enhancements, but I'm very satisfied overall. The only negative thing is that sometimes in low light I feel like it's slow to focus and actually take the picture. I'm not sure why. I do have an external flash (Sunpak Z40) and that is almost always on in low light indoors, but it still seems slow. I know the camera has to "talk" to the flash, but I just don't get why it seems to have trouble sometimes and is slow and I seem to miss the perfect candid shot. I'll have to do some research. Overall, with the D90 out and the price drop in the D80, I would recommend anyone interested to go for it and get hte D80. AbesofMaine's price couldn't be beat and they are an EXCELLENT company! I bought my D50 from them and also other accessories. They are extremely great on prices, [...]

I have been wanting a good DSLR for several years and when I was finally able to afford one, this camera came highly recommended.
This is my first DSLR so the only thing I have to compare it to is my old point-n-shoot. Well, it's phenomenal compared to that.
My first shoot was at a 'Breakfast with Santa' event and the camera kept up nicely. The standard battery lasted for all 500+ shots and stayed generally focused. The built-in flash is a bit harsh but a diffuser should fix that.
Definitely worth the cost of admission

Comments about Nikon D80 10.2 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera (Camera Body):

At [$]cheaper than the new D90--body for body, with all the features I wanted (and more), it was no contest. 10MP is enuff for the 20x30 poster prints---actually so was/is the 6MP of my D50! For those who crop their 20X30 prints, the extra 4MP of the D80 is enuff and MP above the 10MP simply creates more noise at higher ISOs due to the smaller sized pixels. As far for the movie feature of the D90, it is not as useable compared to a $200 camcorder.

Comments about Nikon D80 10.2 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera (Camera Body):

This is a great camera in everyway except that the exposure metering is consistently over. This is a firmware issue and not a problem with the sensor. It could be fixed by Nikon with a firmware update. Secondly it is a big camera and not something to carry around casually. 10mp is MORE than enough resolution for anything. Don't waste money on anything higher.

Comments about Nikon D80 10.2 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera (Camera Body):

I finally switched from Nikon film cameras to a Nikon DSLR when the D300 came out last year. I had been debating between the D40 and D60 as a back-up camera body but was not pleased that my Tokina 12-24 mm and Tamron 28-300 mm lenses (those fine products are not Nikon "AFS") would not be full featured with those DSLR bodies. I coveted the D80 or this purpose (full use of my lenses, far more robust construction, many more features I prefer) but it was beyond my budget for a "back-up". I had almost purchased it twice as my primary DSLR body but kept saving for the D200 when the D300 arrived in the marketplace. When I saw that Abe's had this outstanding price reduction I jumped on it. I haven't stopped smiling since!

[...] Since this camera is out dated by new D90, I got a good deal on it. I was in dilemma to purchase D90 or D80. Later decided to go with D80. There was difference of 440$ that I have used to buy two Nikon SB-600s and started doing off-camera photography at home. I really like the camera.

Comments about Nikon D80 10.2 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera (Camera Body):

Great Camera however needs a bit of study and test as the features are limitless. I have used it with my older Nikkor 28-80 G lens from my older F60, also got a 75 300 VR lens (which occasionally gave me some hase may be due to the filters I have using) I bought all the toys for this camera Flash VR lens tends to be heavy with everything installed. Excellent speed, pictures quality with the 28/80 lens. I would have prefered to have a Liveview But I guess the D90 is for that price wise I would wait if I wanted to buy it price may drop as usual. I would also find it shamefull from Nikon not to be able to get a decent SW to provide with this decent Camera and use the Kodak easy share SW.

Comments about Nikon D80 10.2 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera (Camera Body):

While i am not a professional photographer i want the pictures i take of my kids to be worth saving. My first camera when i had my son 14 years ago was the Nikon N50 and we were very pleased with pictures from that camera. It took a long time for me to break down and buy a digital because i had invested so much in my Nikon. I chose the Nikon coolpix L1 for it's small size since i already had the big camera. The coolpix was ok but the lag time in shooting the picture i wanted was to long when taking pictures of kids who are always moving. Then add in the lag time till you can shoot the next picture and you have lost the shot you were hoping for. I guess i was spoiled after using the N50. With the D80 that is not an issue. I have not used many of the features of the camera but i hope to in the future when i have time to sit down and learn the ins and outs.
When i look at pictures that friends have taken with their cameras and see how blurry most of them are i can appreciate again that i have the D80.

This is a great camera for what I paid when I bought it. But with the new cameras coming into the market, this gem has lot a bit of limelight. But still , it is one of the best cameras that Nikon has created. It is good in lowlight , nice build and good grip. For all practical purposes, this camera is all that anyone can need.

am using the camera with a Nikon vr 18-200 and for almost all situations, it seems more than adequate for my level of interest. I have used the camera extensively in my travels, and reunions with friends, and the pictures have come out beautifully. And I dont think it is as much my talent as it is the camera's technology!

Comments about Nikon D80 10.2 Megapixel SLR Digital Camera (Camera Body):

This camera is a great product, especially for the price. It does most everything the D200 or D300 will do. I would think you would need to be at least a sem-pro level photographer level to gain significant advantage with the higher priced models. The camera is also more sturdy and rugged than the D60 or D40 making it worth the slighty increased cost. I primarily use the camera on hikes and for landscape/waterfall photography. The camera also has a very simple "point and shoot" mode when other family members need to use the camera.
