Good camera! Excellent starter and much cheaper than the D90, but with the same quality!

I love this camera! There are tons of "pro" statements, and very few "con", so I will just mention a few "cons":
- flash is a little wimpy - don't expect good results beyond 6-8 ft (which may be reasonable for a built-in)
- autofocus has to be watched - I'm still learning, but often, I find it focuses on things which I did not predict...
- manual focus is possible, but is a little awkward
...but I love this camera!!!

The best part about the camera is the excellent optics of most Nikon lenses.
On the D8o, one of my favorite options is the RETOUCH feature after you take the pix, and then, having the retouched picture saved as a separate file on the card.
I do not like the 2.5" LCD, something improved on the D90.

Great pick if you are switching to the SLR world.
Try to work in Manual mode from the beginning. Play with the settings.

Comments about Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens:
This Camera really impressed me! Out of the box you can feel the quality! As a previous Canon
owner of the AE1 Program, A1, EOS 650, & EOS Elan 7. I was looking foward to a new digital camera,
but had looked hard at the EOS Rebel XSI. I read lots of reviews and articles before I decided to go with the Nikon D80. I even considered the D40x but the choice of lenses is limited. Plus the D80 is more of the type of Camera I was looking to grow with. What really impressed me? it focuses very good in low light, Very good Quality LCD screen, & very impressive pop up flash. Example; I took a quick picture of my wife who was sitting in bed one morning, I snapped a quick shot on auto, the flash popped up on its own and I thought OH No! red eye! but later when I uploaded the photo on my computer I was really taken with the photo. Sharp as you can get, no red eye and no glare from her glasses! fooled me! I was sure that one or the other had happened! Thanks Nikon! good metering!
I got the Nikon D80 & 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 VR kit.
So take a good look at this one!

As a motorcyclist I come across beautiful scenery and wildlife often. Having a quality camera at the ready to capture these images is great! My old “point and shoot” camera doesn’t come close the quality and frame filling images captured by this Nikon digital SLR!
Comments about Nikon D80 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR Zoom-Nikkor Lens:
The Nikon D80 has been so good taking pictures in the Automatic mode that I am reluctant to try the Aperature mode--let alone Manual. After just three weeks of taking pictures with this camera my enthusiasm for photography, which had waned with the old Nikon N2000 SLR has grown considerably--indeed, it is no exaggeration to say I feel 10 years younger (I'm 65) because of the Nikon D80 DSLR.

The DS80 is a Photo Enthusiasts dream. Lots of online/YouTube tutorials online about this model. I have taken a lot of good shots with the DS80 but better yet I have taken some GREAT shots as well. I dropped it on day 1 and nothing happened, very rugged and solid. The menus are so easy to navigate. [...] All is good for the Holiday photos! I did not try the software because I use Google's Picasa for free. My Vista system recognizes the SD Card instantly and the download soon follows.

I have been an underwater photographer for decades but I never realized how hard it would be for me to pick a camera to use above the water. I decided on the D80 with thoughts of upgrading someday to a body with a full frame sensor. I may never give this camera up. It's easy to learn, use and takes fantastic images. I'll hold onto the D80 for sure. It will make a great backup if I do ever upgrade.

I researched the Nikon D80 & the Canon XSI for over a year & became tired of reading all the reviews, testimonials & websites - I finally jumped in. I love the D80's resolution and basic ease. It's still a little complicated for me, but that's because I have alot to learn. I researched it's features, durability and capabilities. I am incredibly happy with this purchase and plan to keep this camera for the next 15 yrs....i take shots of my kids football games and download them to a the website - they look totally professional!
