Comments about Olympus Stylus 1030SW Digital Camera - Silver:

I purchased this camera for work, but I've used it more for personal use than anything. I never realized how many times I decided not to take a camera with me on occasions where the camera could be damaged. This camera is BULLETPROOF. I've taken it sailing, snowboarding, swimming, rafting, boating, snorkeling...the list goes on and on...

I'm not a professional by any means, but this camera takes great casual photos. I've gotten hundreds of photos that I never would have taken without something waterproof like this. The funny thing is that other people get into taking photos underwater, etc. because of the novelty, which means great pictures in the end.

Definitely Recommended!

Comments about Olympus Stylus 1030SW Digital Camera - Silver:

I have just begun to explore my 1030SW. I find it easy to use and it has a wealth of useful features. I don't understand why Olympus continues to use XD cards, but the 1030SW comes with a MASD adapter so that you can use microSD cards as well. The only feature that is disabled with the SD cards is the panorama feature (and, I believe movie lengths are shortened)... this is no big deal. Overall, I am very happy.

I use this camera when I'm outdoors in variuos weather conditions, but I have yet to use it under extreme conditions.
It's also good for regular use because of it's compact size although it is slightly heavier than my previous compact camera but it feels more durable.

Comments about Olympus Stylus 1030SW Digital Camera - Silver:

After years of toting around SLRs and heavy precise digital cameras I finally succumbed to my son's reasoning: "You complain so much that you are always seeing something which you could photograph to illlustrate your classes and presentations, and your cameras were so heavy and cumbersome. Why don't you get one of these small cameras." Well, I did and I do not regret it. The fisrt one was not waterproof, which meant many lost opportunities because it was raining. So the second one was an Olympus 370SW which performed very well and moved on to the 1030SW, since last August.Of course when I need to take more "serious" pictures I still have a semi-pro, but the sheer comfot of being able to drop it in any pocket is great. Now I am able to illustrate talks and classes with photos of interesting displays, grafitti, people and situations which are very good to make audiences understand something that, otherwise would have been described merely with words.Warning that battery is getting low is good because it warns you well ahead of time that you should recharge or change.Find that using the fill-in flash practically all the time is more convenient than taking some pictures in auto flash and finding out that the lighting was not proper.Very good for candid photography in city streets and for "strange" angles, as the 1030SW mostly comes out of my trousers pocket and the shot comes straight from that position. It is useful to put a plastic film to protect the glass of the display in the back, as Olympus does not provide one. Overall, I am very pleased, as well as with Abes reliability (many cameras bought there)speed and never had any bad expriences with them. Not to speak of the prices, which are always good, [...]

it's a camera that's shock and waterproof. as far as the pictures go, very disappointing. i have a few waterproof pentax cameras and every one of them, from 8 years back, take better quality pictures. they aren't as rugged, but the pictures are much better.

It's nice to have a camera that doesn't have to be babied so I am able to bring it places I would never take other cameras. I have used it frequently on snorkeling trips. The underwater movie mode is my favorite and I love the depth guage.

I took this camera to Costa Rica due to extreme humidity and on a whitewater two day trip. It is perfect for all phases of travel and water sports. No one else had a waterproof camera on the trip, but after our return, 4 out of 5 people who went purchased one within the first two weeks of returning.

It takes great pictures on land and under water (pool or ocean down to 30ft). I only wish it went deeper. High resolution allows for great quality when cropping too. I've told several people about it and everyone who sees it wants one.

Comments about Olympus Stylus 1030SW Digital Camera - Silver:

This camera is great for someone who travels and likes to get underwater pictures. The resolution was good and it was easy to use. It is a little heavy, but not bad. It does not float, so the optional floating wrist band is essential. While it does not have the resolution of the expensive underwater cameras, the fact that is digital and easy to use makes this camera an excellent acquisition. We came home from a cruise with excellent pictures and didn't have to worry about our camera getting ruined in the salt water. The only bad thing about the camera is that it is hard to see the screen while underwater or in bright sunlight.

Comments about Olympus Stylus 1030SW Digital Camera - Silver:

We love this camera for its shock proof and waterproof features. However, you absolutely must rinse this camera in fresh water after using in salt water. We were on our Maui honeymoon when the lens cover froze and the photos started looking blurry.

We later found out that some dried salt water had made the rubber seals not function perfectly and jammed the lens cover. We were forced to buy the 850SW as a emergency replacement and it did not have any of these problems. I think that the 1030sw 's advertised 30 foot waterproof depth is not accurate. I only dove 20 feet and after that we had problems. The 850sw we only dove 10 feet just to make sure we didn't ruin that one too.

Also, unless you use high speed shutter mode, there is a slight shutter lag.

Olympus cleaned the camera under warranty with a 2 week turn around.

So, in conclusion, rinse and wipe the rubber seals after salt water use and you'll love this camera!
