Used in hiking, backpacking and fishing in all types of weather. The wide-angle feature is why I purchased th W60 to replace a W20. It is difficult to open the SD card and battery compartment, especially compared to the W20. The case construction does not appear to be as strong as the W20 and the pictures are not as crisp. I used both side by side on two trips and the W20 produced better pictures. Overall a useful camera for outdoors.

Comments about PENTAX Optio W60 Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:
Overall it is a basic point-and shot camera comparable to many of them (Sharp,Sony,Olympus etc...).However, it is dust and moisture protected which makes it a good companion for travel (skiing and even some underwater shots)
Comments about PENTAX Optio W60 Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:
Very good point and shoot camera for active people. It takes decent pictures (very good in daylight), video quality is pretty good, it's rugged, waterproof!! has no external moving parts to jam up with dust and has tons of options (face recog., manual adjustment of ISO controls, more!). This a fantastic go-anywhere, anytime camera. I always have it with me and find that I am using the HD video feature more and more. It's great to have on the water and not worry about it getting wet, plus it takes pretty good underwater photos and video!!
I'm very happy with!

I bought this camera because I wanted a small point and shoot water resistant camera to take with me while paddling. This camera seemed the best fit.
There are many things to like about this camera, however be aware that the image quality is POOR. My old Canon 2 megapixel digital Elph produced far superior photos, in all light conditions.
Canon and Panasonic have new water resistant cameras available in Spring 2009 that hopefully will provide better quality.
If you need a water resistant camera, this one works just don't expect high quality photos.

After drowning a couple of digital cameras while fishing, I decided to buy a waterproof model. I also considered the Olympus Tough 6000, but chose the Pentax W60. As a standard digital, the camera has performed extremely well - my only minor complaint is that it seems to produce a slightly higher percentage of shaky shots than my Canon point and shoot, not terrible - but the image stablization could be better. The underwater shots are fantastic - both photo and video really impressed me. I got some very cool shots of trout swimming away after being released. For a fisherman, this is a great option.

I bought this camera for the sole purpose of taking time laps pictures of a construction site. It can be programmed to take time laps and is waterproof at the same time.
I built a little box and mounted it. Works like a charm. Takes a huge number of pics at the largest setting with an 8MB card.

I purchased the W60 for a Caribbean cruise in April, I have a Pentax DLSR but wanted something I could toss into a pocket and be near the water without the worry. I am planning to use it when snorkeling. The size of the camera is really nice. the controls are clear and don't take long to learn. I was very pleased with the quality of the pictures at low ISO. The default ISO is 800 so you need to change it. Works best when there is lots of light. I have played with the 720p video at 15fps. it was quite clear, works best when you hold the camera still and let the subject move. There are a ton of silly settings such as pet photos and food photos etc. I am glad they are on the second page of the menu. I just found the "P" setting was best. For a small camera it has a bit more controls and settings than I was expecting. I did buy extra batteries though. Since it has no view finder, like most small cameras, you use the screen all the time. I also bought a lot of 8 GB SD cards. You can get more than 1/2 hour of 720p video on a single 8 GB card. The software is OK, not a fan of using the stuff given me in packages, but I thought it be fun to see how it worked. Regarding the video: I noticed a click noise when I was reviewing my test 720p video and I have heard it on a Youtube clip as well. I think it has to do with the camera focusing. I will be looking into this more, but I am not really concerned, I do post production and remove most sound in my videos. Over all I am pleased. I will see how it is in the water, that is the big test. I would suggest a small case as the review screen is large and will eventually get scratched with use. I paid [$] which was not a bad price, though you will need to buy some extras and they can vary, do research.

I haven't had this camera long enough to give a thorough review, but so far I am very impressed. My last camera was a Canon S1 IS. It was a great camera and lasted for almost 10,000 photos, but it was too big to carry around comfortably, and I'm certain its cause of death was due to dust poisoning. That was the number one reason for buying the Optio, knowing that dust was not going to be a problem.
My husband and I do a lot of outdoor photography, and I have dropped a (borrowed) camera in a creek, and taken pictures in many dusty locations. Shouldn't be a problem for the Optio. There were situations when I left my Canon at home, because it was just too big to bother with, but I can't think of any reason not to take this small, light, handsome camera anywhere and everywhere. The optical zoom is smaller (5X instead of 10X) but the much higher megapixel count (10MP instead of 3.5) completely makes up for that.
I find the buttons simple and easy to use. However, the sheer number of mode options could slow me down when changing options. I do like that the option chosen remains in place when powering down and back on again. As far as battery life, I haven't had the opportunity to field test it, but the manual claims the "image storage capacity" with "flash used for 50% of shots" is approximately 205 pictures. If I'm shooting a wedding, I'll take 300 to 500 shots, and would have hoped for more shots per charge.
Overall, I am all kinds of impressed with this camera, and I hope it lives up to my expectations over the long run.
Comments about PENTAX Optio W60 Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:
This camera was just what I needed for our cruise. It was small enough to take with us on all excursions. The fact that it is waterproof to 15 feet, made it great for the rainforest, waterfalls, river tubing through caves and snorkeling. I have used digital cameras with underwater cases before, and they are bulky bothersome. They are also expensive (they cost more than this all in one camera). I was very pleased with the quality of pictures both out of the water and underwater.

I've only had this product a few weeks but I've had a blast with it, experimenting with different settings and comparing photos to my other cameras. I have absolutely loved my old Pentax Optio 450 and this one is equally easy to use and seems to produce clean, clear images. I like how easy it is to use on automatic but that you can control various items to create the image you want. The waterproof feature is wonderful and the 1 cm macro is amazing, even without a tripod (the snowflakes pictured were barely over 1/8 inch across). So far, so great!

Pentax continues to dominate the market for waterproof rugged cameras. While the photographic quality (particularly ISO noise) is not as good as Canon (and others') pocket point-and-shoot line, if you're looking for one camera and it needs to be able to get wet, this is the one. The one trned I don't like is that toward omitting the optical view finder.
Comments about PENTAX Optio W60 Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:
This camera occasionally fogs up in the viewing screen and the lens when subjected to temperature changes. There is also a delay after pressing the shutter release button if the camera is trying to focus on an object and the mode is on automatic. It is one of the best outdoor/adventure cameras, however.
Comments about PENTAX Optio W60 Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:
This camera takes excellent photos underwater while snorkeling.
It is very small while being feature packed. It is so easy to carry.

This camera proved to be durable, lightweight and easy to use. The waterproof feature made it great to have on a recent sailing trip in the caribbean. The large viewing screen made it easier to see what I was shooting. Photo quality is excellent. I also really enjoyed the movie mode.

Comments about PENTAX Optio W60 Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:
This is an incredible camera. The panorama modes (2 actually) are outstanding and simple to use, my 10 year old was doing this within minutes (he's also tech savvy, but most kids are)...movie mode is awesome, shoots in many including high-def.
Picture quality with auto settings is outstanding and the many presets are simple to use. For example, i used a text preset to take a picture of an 8x11 type page for posting online and it was perfect even without a tripod to stabilize.
The waterproof stuff is just a total bonus. And the camera is nice and small, fits comfortably in my front pocket or a small coat/vest pocket.
Pricing is great for this set of features and quality level.

Used it at the beach in the water. Takes good underwater photos as long you don't go too deep. (13ft max.)
I also like the internal zoom lens, nothing sticks out to get damaged.

Comments about PENTAX Optio W60 Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:
I've been a fan of the Optio line for a while, but some of the criticisms I had with the S-line I have with the W60. The W60's pros are that it works extremely well and the colors are nice underwater. Many of the editing functions are not gimmicky and really helpful and it's great to edit right on the camera. For being Waterproof, the size is compact and the screen is nice and big.
Some of the drawbacks have to do with some of the recording functions. The fact that the camera forces a focus does not allow for snapping a quick picture. THe other is the semi-misleading feature that Optio (not the reseller) touts: The "720p" video feature. The one thing they leave out is that for 720P, the framerate is 15fps. Only other real megative I have is that there is no cover for the lens. It's a necessity to have a camera holder to protect the lens.
Other than that, it's a very good camera

This camera worked great in China during the rainy season. Good resolution, battery life. The Navigation Buttons are difficult to use if you have large fingers.
