This is my first foray into photography and I wasn't quite sure what types of pictures I would be taking most. Thus, I wanted an "All-in-One" type camera. I wanted something capable of taking a variety of shots in a variety of situations, able to double as a camcorder, and still being relatively compact while delivering solid image quality. The FZ100 delivers on all these needs.

I also find the FZ100 a great choice for beginners that are looking to really learn about cameras settings and photography. Shooting in Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Program AE, and Manual, and being able to play with Manual Focus is really helping me learn how to shoot pictures without the camera doing all the work in Auto. The large feature set will also aid the newbie photographer. The superb shooting speed and autofocus is amazing for sports and action shots. The 25-600mm lens will get you an incredible range of shots.

Pros:
-Extremely fast shooting speed
-Burst shooting at 11 fps
-Fast Autofocus
-Capable of shooting Raw
-Articulating 3-inch LCD
-Excellent 1080i HD video recording
-Great reach with the telephoto zoom lens
-Tons of settings and features to explore

Cons:
-Weak low-light shooting capability
-Image quality at large sizes might disappoint some

The general consensus is that the FZ100 has weaker image quality compared to its predecessor the FZ35. However, the difference is only really noticeable in large prints or to pixel peepers viewing 100% crops. For my own purposes, the features added in the FZ100 far outweigh any dips in image quality that I don't really notice at the picture sizes I deal with.

Don't trust Ai mode, because the end results were mixed ones. Try to switch to different scene modes.

I was able to take a video of people that where a half a mile away. Video quality if phenomenal zoom is insane. Love the macro setting.

In addition to taking great stills and videos, This camera is simply fun to use. The burst modes are amazing. You can even shoot a burst while taking video,...and both come out perfect with no lags or delays!

I've owned many cameras, including several so called "long zoom" models. Everything considered, this is the best of the bunch.
