I am still learning the ins and outs of the camera, but find it very easy to use and it takes beautifully clear images with great colour balance. The zoom is brilliant and the only small difficulty I have had is focus in extremely close shots. This may be me rather than the camera. The flash is good also.

I bought this as a more flexible alternative to my Nikon D40 with separate 55-200mm telephoto. Wanted something with similar photo quality, flexible telephoto-to-wideangle built-in lens, and decent video capability that my Nikon didn't offer. Looked at review after review of similar offerings, to balance all of the features at a decent price. Decided on the FMZ35 lumix since it had a proven track record. After use for only 2 weeks, the quality is similar enough to the D40 that it fulfils my needs, and the telephoto quality/flexibility and the video quality are beyond my expectations. Definitely recommend for the person who may want a DSLR but not the higher price or limitations of separate lense and sometimes no video.

After only a couple of weeks, I haven't had a chance to experiment with all the features this camera has to offer, but it's been very good so far. I got some good shots at a friend's wedding, although some of the evening shots didn't work out very well. I think that's mostly my fault because I wasn't able to learn all the best settings for that situation. Also, there was slightly more lag time between shots than I would have hoped, but nowhere near as long as my prior camera. Overall, I'm very pleased.

So far I just use it to get good closeups for [...]stuff. Only had it for a month and I now know my learning curve has flattened over the past 60 years.Have figured out how to open the flash 'door', but not how to get it to flash. Good thing cameras cannot review their owners ... mine would simply say 'dummy' ... fortunately the camera surprises with features that tutor dummmies. Good service from Abe's too ... original battery would not hold a charge ... got a replacement immediately.

I bought this for a trip to Europe, and I know pretty much nothing about photography. I own a Panasonic DVC-30 Mini DV camcorder, and so I felt strong about buying another Panasonic - and the price point was right on. It was fun to use, easy, short set up time, and I love the image quality - especially in good light. Low light is a challenge, but what else is new - the night photo function is great, and the image stabilization is amazing. Video is really solid - good sound, and I just found it so user friendly. Absolutely recommend this to anyone who doesn't know much, but loves photography.

I wanted a single camera and lens that could do many things when I did not want to lug around 25 lbs of equipment. This fits that bill. It can zoom, has a good wide angle, good flash, good image quality, good colors. My problem - I am used to Nikon quality. This is not Nikon quality BUT it also does not cost $3,000.00 and weigh 25 lbs. It is well worth the price but don't get it expecting it to perform like a $3,000.00 Nikon or any other expensive SLR - there is a reason for the price difference. In its price class - how I rated it below - its well worth the price. If it is to be your only camera, I highly recommend it. If I had to pick one area where it lacks the most, it would be fast action sports. There is a lag time that does not exist with my Nikon SLRs

I bought the camera just before going on a 3 week vacation overseas. I used the camera to take pictures outdoor, indoor, on the beach, on the mountain and with my family. The FZ35 has a lot of good and bad qualities.
On the positive side, there are many useful and needed manual settings like: custom white balance, exposure bracketing, manual focus, dedicated video button, manual video control, incredible zoom, good pictures if you are willing to spend time and get the right color settings for the situation, and automatic slideshows with imbeded songs built into the camera. Plug the camera into the HD TV and watch several slide show styles that are auto timed to the chosen song or theme.
On the negative side: Indoor pictures get A LOT of yellow blotches when shooting objects a low light. Auto White Balance does not do a good job and you will have to make a custom setting for each indoor shooting session so the colors will look natural. Outdoor shot colors don't seem to pop and look slightly dull and muted.
Overall it is better than the Canon 10/20 but it still has some work to do on the Auto white balance and exposure. Probably the best camera of the megazooms, but not perfect.

The camera works great. I had the Lumix Zr1 but after using it for couple of days I decided to search for something better. So I did some research and came across this camera which showed excellent reviews just about everywhere. I gave it a chance and bought it.

After several years of owning a Nikon N90S, I wanted a camera that was small, light, and inexpensive. Well, I got all that and more when I purchased the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ235.
My old nikon took great pictures, however, in order to capture all manner of photos, I had to carry with me several thousand dollars worth additional lenses, flash, film, and battries in an awkward, sizable gadget bag. I couldn't go anywhere without someone saying "look, he must be the photographer". Not too cool when you're trying to take candid photos.
Also, it got to be very nerve-wracking worrying about carrying such a large financial investment around while trying to wrangle a few kids on a family outing. It got to the point where I wouldn't take the camera. Of course, no pictures of the kids acting silly went over really well with the wife. Enter the Lumix.
Now I have all I need to take great photos without having to worry about losing a mortgage payment if something happened to the camera. While I may not have the aperature range or flash quality of the old film camera, I've made up for it with greater overall range of zoom, and ease of portability.
As for picture quality, no one is happier than my wife, who loves the quality of the photos, along with the ability to connect to the flatscreen for instant review.
The quality of the photos are perfect for our purposes which include preserving cherished memories.
With its compact size, ease of use, and range of abilities, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ235 was the perfect camera for me and my family.

lowered the pixils to 5 and got even better zoom without the loss of picture quality for my use.

But DON'T buy an additional lens for telephoto or macro. You can not leave it on the camera.
The lens won't open with anything on it except a filter. You even have to take off the lens cap.

I mainly use this camera for taking pictures of family and friends, or when my girlfriend and I go on a vacation together. I've had the camera for over a month now and so far it has been awesome. My girlfriend's old camera was not very reliable on wether or not it would give a crisp image or not, and I've got to say that she is very pleased with the fz-35. She has very shakey hands and she's still gotten one or two fuzzy images, but mostly she's gotten crisp bright pictures using this camera, even when zoomed in. I just wish it took AA batteries.

I purchased this camera for use during my travels. I am impressed with the zoom abilities which I used repeatedly with landscapes and images. In learning to use the camera I used the auto setting a lot and was impressed with the automatic adjustments for varying situations. This camera was an upgrade for me, but the ease of use erased my uneasiness. I am very pleased with this camera.

Great camera, easy to set up and use and the picture quality is fantastic. The zoom is the best I have ever used on a point and shoot camera. The only complaint that I have is the user manual is on a cd and must be printed (over 200 pages) if you want a hard copy which I find very helpfull.

I take my camera hiking and take pictures of flowers, wildlife and mountain vistas. It replaces a Fujifilm FinePix S700 which was great at close ups, but in many ways I like the Panasonic better with a higher quality lens and more options. However, it can be tricky getting it to focus on what I want, especially when using the zoom. That, I see, is the main drawback and hopefully with more time and use it will get easier.

I reviewed P & S cameras with high optical range and I chose the Panasonic FZ35. So far, I am happy with it. My Canon broke down 3 times, 2 were on warranty. The digital zoom has to be seen to be believed. The image quality is superb for a camera with a large zoom range.

The switch to the review photos allows easy viewing by others because each image is 'held' until you change it.

It is small, lightweight and easily packed for motorcycling, etc.

Bottom line: The closest I've seen to an SLR/Video camera 'system' in one hand you could hope for!!!

This camera starts up fast and is quite easy to use. There are too many modes available to mention but one can start with the basics and learn along the way. Got some great photos on a recent trip to AK; some which would not have been possible with a slow starting camera. Be careful with extender lens/adapter rings as some can interfere mechanically with the ID of the lens holder when the lens retracts during a power save mode. Some should not be left on the camera when it is shut down because of this interference issue.

I use my camera extensively as a Realtor and recreationally. When my old digital camera conked out I asked a birder friend of mine what he had. He recommended the Lumix FZ35. I use this camera more and more for video. No more lugging a video camera around. The lithium battery has worked out very well. Very easy to go from feature to feature. The camera allows you to determine how much control over the shot you want
(from idiot proof to setting many features a pro would). If you get a large size 16 SDHC Card (type 4 or higher) the storage capacity/speed is terrific.

I moved up to this camera after several years of using multiple point and shoot digital cameras. Because I used an SLR for many years before digital cameras were invented, I was always disappointed by the results I was getting with the point and shoot, but loved the convenience of digital. As my Adobe Photoshop abilities increased, I could no longer tolerate what I was getting with the point and shoots, even though they were good cameras.

I started looking at digital SLRs, but found them to be needlessly complicated and unwieldy after using the lightweights. I had pretty much given up on finding anything that would suit me when I saw this camera reviewed at consumerreports.org. I took a chance on it and am very glad I did. It does pretty much everything the SLRs do, is lighter weight, is very easy to learn, and is way cheaper than a digital SLR with comparable features. I'm extremely happy with the picture quality. You can really see the difference when you mess with pictures in Photoshop.

The Intelligent Auto setting is outstanding. It evaluates the scene you're shooting and chooses the most appropriate setting. I was shooting family pictures in the yard and it would go from Landscape to Portrait, to Sports depending on what my family was doing and what I was aiming at. With no effort I got outstanding pictures of my grandkids running through sprinklers, the yard, etc. I experienced depth of field that I hadn't seen since my days of using a film SLR. And it did it automatically.

The video camera is also excellent. You can zoom in and out while using video and the sound is outstanding. You can see a video I shot on youtube. Search for rangermeister and "I'm My Own Grandpa." I shot it at a low resolution because it's going to be watched on a small screen, but it does HD that looks great on the big flat screen TV. The sound on youtube is great. I'm a musician, so I'm picky about sound. This is great sound.

I've had this about a month and haven't found anything to dislike and love every feature I've used so far. Buy this camera.

I bought the FZ35 to help me identify birds in the field. Not only have I been able to sort out field markings at over 200 yards, it also takes some amazing shots some of the time. It falls short on cloudy days when either ISO is too high or when shutter speed is too low for sharp pictures. But I'd have to buy an expensive DSLR to achieve that.
Now I'm experimenting with taking video and capturing bird songs to analyze as sonograms - not bad considering the alternative of buying another recording device.
So overall the FZ35 has exceeded all my expectations.

Connecting to a PC could be more user friendly. Unit does not get auto recognized as a drive as other cameras do. One must select a function on the camera in order to have the PC recognize it but this is ONLY for still photos. Movies need to be downloaded using the special software included which is cumbersome at best and very inconvenient. Response time is fairly good but I expected better. Zoom is good as is movie capture which allows use of zoom while capturing movies. Battery life seems to be very good.

Wonderful 18X optical zoom with very good image stabilization while hand holding the camera (no tripod needed). Large for hiking and backpacking which I do. Otherwise size/weight is reasonable for a Superzoom.

This is my second Panasonic. I upgraded for the previous version. It's a good camera, ligther than SLRs with comparable photo quality. You cannot hike, camp, with a heavy SLR and all those lenses. Great ZOOM, fast. Burst Feature with high speed memory card is nice.

This camera is great for taking fleeting pictures of wildlife. It is quiet, wakes up soon enough and gives a lot of options for picture taking (and is a lot lighter than a DSLR with a telephoto lens).
I will probably use this camera in place of the telephoto when backpacking, or for casual shots when I don't want to carry the DSLR equipment around.
However, it is important to realize that even with OIS, a base 80 ISO is no different than 200 ISO without stabilization (most DSLRs), and the picture noise is noticeably worse.
Also, it is important to use a tripod for telephoto shots.
When I use a tripod on landscapes, I usually use a timer (e.g. 2 sec) to keep everything still. Problem is I have to reset the timer after every photo.
On the plus side, you have more options to fix photos taken in RAW.

Only had the camera a couple of weeks so I have not experimented much yet. Great to be able to zoom while taking videos but I can't say much about video quality yet since I have only taken a few short clips. Zoom is great. I wish I didn't have to trade off body size for extended zoom but the light weight of the camera partially makes up for its larger size. I am still on my first charge on the battery even after taking on a 1 week trip to the beach and grandchildren. Best I can say for now is that so far I am very happy with my purchase. I am not giving 5 stars simply because I don't know the camera well enough yet.

Great leap in technology from my 5-year old FZ20. Shutter lag not bad for a non-DSLR.
Leica lens is a cut above average.
Great price (from Abe's) for a point-n-shoot camera with a long (486mm equiv.) zoom lens.
Supports SD-HC up to 32Gb.
10-shot burst in less than 2 seconds.
Haven't done much with the movie mode yet, but I will eventually. Smaller and more compact than the FZ20, but still similar so that the learning curve isn't so steep.

I normally shoot DSLRs, but wanted a camera with good zoom to take with me on a trip to Texas. In the past I have purchased Canons, but chose the Panasonic based on reviews, shorter lag time, and video capabilities. It's a very good camera of its type, and had unusually good burst frame rates for this type of camera. Video quality is excellent. I am spoiled by DSLRs, however, and so found the viewfinder less useful (with the video lag), the shutter speed too slow to capture action shots, and the shutter lag a little difficult to work with in trying to get the perfect shot. It was great for its purpose and very easy to use.

I am a new photographer and really enjoy how this camera was easy to use out of the box. With that,it is also capable of being fully manual and after only two weeks with it I am taking amazing HDR photos. Never could get good shot of my kids in programs before this camera due to poor lighting but this camera does a great job. I have used it in all types of settings and have had great pictures. Fun for closeups too. The zoom is excellent. Sports shots are a little tougher due to a moderate lag time. That is the only complaint I have.

Bought as a gift for my wife's birthday. Her jaw literally dropped when she opened the box. So far we're very impressed with the camera. It's simple enough to use as a point-n-shoot but with enough features to dig in and get creative, I'd say it's just shy of a low end DSLR. It has even got me thinking of upgrading to one for myself.

I researched online for weeks reading reviews by others and watching Youtube footage shot by this camera, and finally felt confident enough to make a decision without even seeing or touching the camera in person. All I have to say, is that this is the most amazing camera for the buck, and have been quite pleased and satisfied with every aspect of the camera so far! At this time, the only camera that is comparable is the Cannon SX20, and I did do my research and comparison between the two and found the Lumix FZ35 would fit my needs better. The only benefit I felt the Cannon SX20 had over the Lumix FZ35 was the flash hot shoe, and an additional 2x optical zoom. The down side to the SX20 was the larger size & weight, AA batteries that don't last as long as the include rechargeable battery pack with the FZ35, audio sound quality seemed to be much better with the FZ35 from watching Youtube reviews on both cameras, the FZ35 is capable of video in both AVCHD Lite and JPEG, where the Cannon is only capable of shooting JPEG, and the FZ35 can be found for about $80 cheaper. I also love the fact I can shoot pics in both RAW and in JPEG with the FZ35. So far, the only thing worth grumbling about is the Panasonic software it came with... it does come with a program called Silkypix on the cd, which is the only program I actually found useful and actually use. The nice thing about the software cd that it came with is that it allows you to pick and choose which programs you want to use. Save yourself some headache if you do purchase this camera and only install Silkypix for RAW pic editing, and Quicktime for video playing. Unless you are willing to spend twice as much for an entry level DSLR such as the Nikon D5000, this is as good as it gets.

I haven't owned this camera long, but so far it has proven to be very versatile and easy to use. It has lots of features for the beginner or advanced user and is a good, cost effective intermediate to a DSLR. Many reviews complain of noisy pictures, but I haven't noticed any extraordinary problems yet. The Intelligent Auto mode works surprisingly well for easy point and shoot. I wouldn't mind seeing better zoom capabilities, but wouldn't sacrifice the macro mode to get it. I'm still playing with the manual features, but overall feel this is a very good camera for the enthusiast or casual user at a great price.

Yhis is a great camera but I was frustrated by the battery that came with the product. Not only did it have a very short life I.and every one I asked to try, could not get it to fit properly in the charger and to charge. I did not have the same problem with the extra battery that I purchased.

I tested it over its full range of zoom in both still and movie mode and got excellent photos for both. As with any non-SLR camera, it takes time to set zoom level to frame a picture. This will be my camera for trips and hikes where weight and bulk must be minimized. More capability than my Canon Elf, not as responsive as my Canon Rebel XT SLR. Good compromise.

You could lug around an SLR with multiple lenses, or you could take this delightful little camera. After using this, I couldn't imagine going back. For a beginner I like the ease of use and the idea of growing into the camera with the more experience I get as I use it. It's light weight and portable enough to take anywhere. I like this camera for the simple fact that it is essentially a point and shoot camera with a better zoom. I would recomend this item to any novice who would like to shoot pictures that are great quality, with out buying an SLR. The menues are easy to use and switch on first glace. Once you get into the "guts" of them they become more complecated; although the preset selections usually are great for what you need. The image stabilization is fantastic. It does have a "plasticy" feel and is lighter than I would have imagined in hand.

I recently used this camera to capture some action shots at my son's baseball game. The high speed burst in scene mode is awesome at catching all the action on the field. You can actually see the seams on a foul ball. Great photos taken same night inside a restaurant also.

I'm presently traveling in New Zealand and using the camera for all types of pictures. I have both a Lumix DMC-TZ3 & DMC-FZ35K. I used the TZ3 on an Everest Trek and found the auto mode photos were over exposed the same seem to be true with the FZ35K. I purchased the FZ35K for it's 18x Zoom and larger primary Lens. The zoom works great with the stabilization. I,m still comparing image quality and exposure. Both cameras seem to over expose in bright areas of the photos. More time is needed to fully evaluated the FZ35K. Photo shop fixes most over exposed bright areas.

this camera is great! It does well in lower light with & without the flash. the zoom is excellent. i use it for about everything...family functions, sporting events,holidays,landscapes,etc... It's ready to go almost immediately on power up. Very little lag in between shots,which is REALLY nice. Image stabilization does its job.The video camera does a good job for being a secondary function. I would suggest getting an extra battery, it is a little power hungry.

This camera works well with the standard settings but you need to learn to use advanced features to get good photos in many conditions. It will not get you SLR quality but it is not near as expensive as an SLR and a good SLR lens either. It is a great compromise for someone like myself who wants a good telephoto but does not want to take a really expensive camera out in a kayak. I thought my low light landscape pictures were good. Indoor portraits with the flash or without the flash came out great. Stabilization seems good, my pictures come out good and I have shaky hands and am often taking pictures while rocking in a kayak. My pictures seem grainy when I get them above 50% on my computer display. This is more than enough resolution for computer pictures and 4X6's which is what I use the camera for. I would be disappointed if I bought this camera and my intent was to make large prints. I find the menus and functions easy to use and well placed. The display is sharp. I can tell if my picture is good or not by looking at the display which was not the case with many other digitals I have used. In bright light the viewfinder is a must and it works great. This camera is surprisingly light and easy to handle but is not something you are going to stick in your pocket. I gave it 4 starts because it meets all my expectations for a camera in this price range, I reserve five starts for a product that really blows me away. If you want telephoto and you have some reason not to go with an SLR, I would say this is a great camera.

When I bought this camera I was already aware of what to expect as I used its predecessor FZ18K for an year and half. And it did not disappoint me. An addition in this camera is the HD Video. Very nice. Leica lens give the perfect images even in low light conditions.It is light weight and easy to use. All the presets are good. There are so many settings and options in this camera it takes a little time if you are a newbie to semi-SLR cameras.

The first surprise when holding this FZ35 is the amazingly light weight of the camera. although the size isn't truly compact, it still is quite small and will fit in a small camera bag. The weight allows for all day carrying on a strap with ease. The 18X zoom is quite long, and satisfies pretty much all of your needs. There comes a point at which the zoom is not hand holdable even with image stabilization, so having any additional zoom is moot since you won't really be able to get sharp images, unless mounted on a tripod.....and that is exactly NOT the reason you bought this sophisticated Point-n-Shoot I would assume.

Minor quibbles would be 1)o need to physically switch from Play to Camera when a light tap on the trigger should suffice (however this switcheroo is enabled by selecting an option in the menu which transforms the "fn" button near the base of the camera to a Play/camera button, and that works rather well. 2)Another one for me is the button which starts/stops the video is difficult to operate without jarring the camera resulting in jumpy video start/stops. However, if you select custom video from the mode dial, you can start/stop video using the regular shutter release button, and that workaround makes things smoother. 3) Digital artifacts are noticeable on even low ISO settings if looked at closely, but for printing regular and moderate enlargements shouldn't be too much an issue for most users. 3) Zoom is actually too quick for me in video mode, I would prefer a 3 step zoom where the first is quite slow then speed it up for the two other speeds. A selectable switch for that would be cool. 4) Focus while zooming is not instantaneous & results in some blurring during zooming....another reason why a slower zoom would be good since the camera would probably be better able to keep up with the focus during zooming. Guessing on that though. 5) Lack of a hot shoe is always something sorely missed if you are just a wee bit sophisticated photographer. 6) white balance in auto WB indoors is not good using available light; for decent results you need to do a custom WB readin in the situation you're in. Of course you can simply use what the camera does, but it's far from accurate and consistently warmer than the actual light is, rendering yellowish/orangeish complexions in natural lighting scenes. 7)Finally, The annoying situation when you turn on the camera and forget to remove the lens cap,...if it's on "camera" mode, the lens jams into the cap and makes you feel like you've harmed your camera. You probably haven't but it could be avoided if they only put the cap on the part of the lens that moved outward.

On the plus side, video quality is quite good. Mic picks up zoom motor of course, but it's not too loud to distract and if soundtrack is otherwise pretty strong it will go unnoticed I should think. The camera is quite fast to focus under most situations other than low light, and the shutter lag if prefocused is almost nil. I would always advise to prefocus when shooting in order to grasp the perfect moment. I didn't use and am not sure if I will use, all of the face recognition software enabled in the menu, but have read that they work admirably well. Also, I haven't used the "i" (intelligent) auto feature which is supposed to also work quite well, since I prefer to make my own assessments. Build qality is very good, but not excellent. A decent lightweight superzoom camera overall. From a scale of A through F, I give it a solid B.

This camera produces smeared photos with dull colors. Stabilization does not improve image clarity by much. My old camera, 7 years old Canon S50, takes better pictures. For expensive camera, this is very little value for your dollars. All colors appear whitish. Whites indoors appear yellowish. Awful!

I didn't give it 5 stars only because I have not had it long.I did extensive research before settling on the DMC-FZ35. It had the best overall features for my wants/needs. My wife and I usually log around 50 miles hiking per vacation, so weight discourages using an SLR camera with all the extras. This camera is ideal for almost any situation we will encounter.I purposely did not read the instructions, to see if I could figure out the basic functions easily. It took less than an hour to get the basics down. The manual(unfortunately not included)is 200+ pages long, so don't expect to master all of the features in a day.I have not had it for long, so time will tell if I find any negatives.[...]

Exactly what I wanted-light weight, fantastic photos. It comes with a nice neck strap. It is great for traveling. So far the battery has been great-didn't take long at all to charge initially. I love that you can turn off the LCD and use the viewfinder, although, it is a bit small. Paid around $300-bought a 4G memory card for around $20, and I was all set.

This is a great camera. It's very easy to use and figure out. Takes great photos with an incredible zoom. good for taking general snap shots all the way to taking wedding pics. The only negative to this camera would be the video feature. The format for the HD is not compatable with my computer but I'm sure there's programs out there. this camera was great to begin with. the zoom is great to start with, the stabilizer too! there are an infinite amount of possibilities of what setting you can change. the camera saves in raw format as well. the image quality is great. focus is good too. you can adjust it manually as well if you want to.
overall the camera was a great buy. i would recommend it to anyone who was looking for a camera within that price range.

I was very excited about having HD video capabilities....but my computer is not as up-to-date as this camera. It can only handle the lesser quality settings. Had NO idea how this camera was (other than reviews) until I received it. Lighter, smaller, than what I thought it would be. Camera compared to my old Nikon F2S (of course all feel that way now)seems almost cheap...but I don't think a hunk of useless lead would make it any more solid or useful.

Compared to my friends 12 MegPix Nikon it has a LOT more JPEG artifacts ...that's my only disappointment.

Menu, controls etc. very easy to use and understand SO FAR.

I am a big game hunter and spend a great deal of time in the out of doors and need a camera that covers a wide range of features without the requirement of numerous lenses to meet whatever photographic situation I might find myself in.

This camera fills this unique niche perfectly as it is smaller than the normal SLR so it will readily fit in a coat pocket or pack. The zoom ranges are equivalent to a 27MM wide angle, all the way out to a 400MM Telephoto, all with the same small package.

With an 8GB card and one extra battery, I can go to the field for a week or more and have the capability of taking over 1000 pictures of great quality without the need to download pictures to some other medium or having an electrical outlet to recharge.

Another feature that is great for me is the diopter adjustment in the viewfinder so that I don't have to have my reading glasses while taking pictures. I have great distance vision, but any close-up work requires reading glasses. In wildlife photography, any additional movement is always a liability, so being able to use the camera without the readers is a huge advantage.

I have not had the camera long enough to work with the video features of the camera so cannot provide any review of the camera's video capabilities.

I feel that a hot shoe to incorporate an external flash would be a great addition to this camera, but for my use the external flash is no big deal.

In summary, the entire camera package costs less than one good lense for the standard SLR. So for the quality of the photos, the range of focal length that is built in, and for the compact size, this is a great buy.

This was my first bridge camera and I am very happy with it, BUT...I didn't realize how close the lens can get to a subject in macro mode and got plant sap on it the first day of use! (This is not warranty work!) A protecting filter should always be highly recommended with purchase of the camera.

Camera fulfills all my expectations. Excellent lens, image stabilization and video capability. The high dynamic range (HDR) setting is outstanding and very effective in contrasty situations. The many specialized scene modes are also highly useful in a wide variety of situations. Not as good as a DSLR in low light, but I will sacrifice that capability for the portability, ease of use and convenience this camera affords while maintaining very good image quality.

I put a lot of research into getting this camera and it paid off greatly. I knew since it had a Leica Lens it would produce superior images. It has. The camera itself feels pretty sturdy. The controls are placed nicely and with in easy reach. I was worried that it might be a weighty camera and I would hate having to hull it around, but to my surprise it was fairly light and easy to handle. Now lets talk about how the camera performed. First of all I am no expert, but a person who has a passion for photography. In my opinion I thought the camera did very well. It was quick, reliable, and fun to use. My only complaint about it is the lens cap, it sometimes gets annoying to take it off and on when taking pictures. So I recommend getting the the UV lens filter. It a great way to keep your precious Leica Lens from getting scratched up and it also then gives you the freedom to leave the lens cap off when you know you are going to be taking pictures for a extended period of time. It's by far cheaper to replace a scratched up lens filter then a whole camera. ;) But next to that I love it. The pictures it took were amazing! I was super happy! They turned out crisp, clear, and clean. (I was shooting in JPEG) I havent had a chance to use its HD Video capabilities but Im sure it will be good. The 18x optical zoom is very handy. I have used it a few times and I notice very little distortion. Overall I am very impressed with it and I highly recommend it to all types of photographers, from beginners to pros. So get one! Great for the price. Mind you - there is a strong purple line which appears on the video recoded. ONLY IN VIDEO. After much research, I got to know that it has got something to do with the CCD sensor. The link below shows the issue with both FZ35 & sx20, but is lesser in sx20. But I picked fz35 for the other overall performance. [@]This issue can be avoided by using a Neutral Density filter OR by avoiding strong light sources like the sun & bulbs in video.

The image stablization was not what I expected. The camera's shutter speed is not what it was cut out to be and catching still shots of moving objects is not realistic. The screen on the back is not very clear. I would not buy this camera again. I would have spent a little more for a DSLR.

This is truly a fantastic camera for the price. After reviewing, and actually testing, similiar products from Nikon, Cannon and Sony I found that the options, quality, ease of use and versatility of the Panasonic, hands down, beat them all. I would strongly recommend this camera to both the casual and professional photo enthusiast. Great pictures with ease. I have had this camera for only a few weeks - got it just before Christmas. I haven't learned ALL it has to offer - but right out of the box, WONDERFUL.
I have a balance problem; have a hard time stabilizing a camera to avoid camera shake - but this camera EASILY compensated for that problem.
I have taken outdoor, indoor, low light, high light, sunny days, cloudy days, fireworks on the river eBay pictures - all great!

This is an amazingly flexible camera. It's not an SLR, and there are some compromises in terms of resolution when shooting in burst mode, and speed of focus in face recognition mode with flash. Give yourself enough time to learn the solutions before you NEED a specific environment.

So far this camera has been great and has met my expectations. I was looking for a camera that was a cut above the usual "point and shoot", plus a camera that had very little shutter lag and a highly rated full automatic mode. I considered a DSLR, but was put off by the price and having to haul around extra lenses. I was also looking for a camera that would take good wildlife photos because I was tired of missing great action shots with my older "point and shoot". So far, this camera really seems to fit the bill at a fairly reasonable price.

Easy to use right out of the box but some of the more advanced features are a bit confusing. Low light image is poor quality and for some reason the flash is shut off in multiple shot mode. You would think that at least some of the shots could be made with flash or there could be an option for a flash recovery period before advancing to the next shot.

Overall a great camera and good image quality can be achieved using the auto settings.

I use this camera primarily for birding pics. I dropped & killed my old FZ20 & this is a newer version. It is an excellent camera for my purposes...simple point & shoot therefor no lenses to lug around, decent zoom & very good quality. If perfection is your goal you'd probably want to move into a much more expensive SLR but if very good & portability is the goal, this camera does really well. For other purposes...family pics, etc. it is just fine!

I am a relatively new photographer to the pseudo SLRs. I really do love all of the options on this camera, it can be used easily just as a P&S but also has the complexity of an SLR and many different options to edit. The video recording is wonderful quality as well, although the sound is below par. For it's quality of photography for how much it costs I give this camera a 5/5. For the video recording I would give this camera 4/5. This is the best camera you will find for under $400.

This is great camera if you dont want the hassle of controlling the settings. It is very easy to use and takes excellent pictures. The color rendition is better than other SLR's that I have tried and very clear definition. Still need to review how to best take action photos, tried to use it out of the box to shoot a volleyball game but not able to capture quick action. I believe there is a way when set properly. I definitely recommend this camera.

My previous photography experience had been with video. The FZ35 has made for a good transition to handle video, but also provide a great camera for getting involved in digital photography. The camera is reasonably intuitive for the novice. The only downside so far is the lack of a complete written operator's manual. A disc is provided, and, yes, one can print out the 200+ pages if you want. Dealing with Abe's was made easy by their [...] competitive pricing.

The best thing about this camera is the ease with which really sharp images can be captured. This is a simple camera (to allow you to concentrate upon taking photos) which routinely produces stellar images, (especially outdoors) Greatly enhances enjoyment of the hobby of photography ( (for me anyway) when one is not struggling to figure out the intracacies of a particular camera when the moment to photograph strikes.

I spend a lot of time outdoors with a camera. The Z35 Lumix is really a nice unit. So far I have been putting it through the ringer using the preset features and perverting the manual settings. The Leica lens is very sharp. The flash is most impressive for a flip up light. Cold weather performance has been good. The battery life is great for all the features that drain it. I look at all the sub compact 12 mega pixel units ,and I can say I am still happy I got this one! I would buy it again in a second!
