Great picture. Beats anything I've ever used in 20 years of videography. You will need outboard audio gear if your recording interviews. Auto gain is noisy.

Great Camera but a high learning curve. For the price the frame should be titanium rather than plastic.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-GH1K Digital SLR Camera with 14-140mm Lens:
As 2009 draws to a close, the GH1 is the best option for a 1080p DSLR camera in terms of affordability and workflow. For 720p, the market is saturated with options...with the Nikon D90 as the front-runner. But, for indie filmmakers the real innovations for emulating cinema quality are happening on the 1080p front.Your options under $3k are the Canon 5d MkII, Canon 7d, and the Panny GH1 (which I own). If you can spring for the extra $1k+, go for the Canon 5d or 7d and get some better lenses. However, for the money it's hard to beat the GH1 with its stock lens and the swivel LCD.It should be noted that the GH1 sensor output is really 60i, and with pulldown removal you get 24p. The Canon 5d can do 30p at 1080. For the GH1, this creates a workflow issue in Final Cut and Compressor for the reverse telecine (see [@]). And, don't be fooled by the Sony HX1, which is 1440 x 1080 and not 1920 x 1080.For some examples, see Philip Bloom on [@]Again, if money is not an issue, get one of the Canons. And, then when the Red Scarlet comes out get that too. And, if that hole in your pocket isn't big enough, why not just buy the Red One now?Happy filmmaking!

Comments about Panasonic DMC-GH1K Digital SLR Camera with 14-140mm Lens:
While I am still getting to know the camera, I have noticed that there are several features that are not detailed at length in other reviews of this camera that I have seen online.
My comments basically come down to the camera as a creative tool. The internal software on this camera is great....the results really seem like a film camera and the settings or "film modes" really feel like I am shooting film. Plus you can customize the color effect to your own liking with a pre-set. For instance, the color street photography of Saul Leiter is a favorite of mine. He used out-of-date film which gave his images a bit of a muted tone. With this camera, I can set the color settings (easily) to this type of photography and actually view it that way while I am shooting. Neat. Also, I like the fact that I can set the camera to shoot in different formats. I like shooting in black and white and in a square format...like using my Rolleiflex 2-1/4 x 2-1/4 camera. Finally, I have purchased several adapters to shoot using my old Nikon series lenses as well as a couple of old Leica screw-mount lenses I have.
Overall, I am very pleased with the ability to use this camera in a wide variety of creative capacities.
Good job Panasonic.
