Comments about Panasonic DMC-TS1S Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:

Nice screen, easy to use, solid quality. Zoom could be better, but you don't buy this kind of camera for the zoom. I don't think a camera like this could have a larger zoom. Videos are more difficult to access on computer.

Abe's has great packages of accessories to accompany the purchase.

Overall solid product. My wife loves it.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TS1S Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:

Did two Disney parks with this camera as soon as I got it and yesterday used it in the pool with family. Waterproof, A-Okay. Just make sure fully dry before changing battery or SD card. The controls are a bit odd and the control wheel spins all the way around even to areas there's nothing to use and when you are there, the camera won't work. They should have made it not be able to spin 360 degrees. The menu and quick menu work well with a push of a button. I would have liked the zoom to be with my thumb rather than with my index finger. I like the wide angle and the zoom does its job for simple photos. Still used my Fuji SF100 28-400 Fuji for other photos at Disney to get close ups.

People love the way the camera looks and want to see it. The underwater videoing worked well as well as the photos taken with the flash underwater in a pool. Be sure to choose Motion JPEG for the video since the other you have to convert.

With the four year warranty added, I hope to have this camera for many years.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TS1S Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:

I received this camera as a gift prior to a trip to Africa that included mountain climbing, safari, and snorkeling. Something small, light, rugged and waterproof were the basic requirements.

Now that I've had a chance to see the results on a 50" screen, I am totally impressed by the photos and especially the HD video segments. Image stabilization worked great and even allows for taking video while moving.

Having run out of battery and storage with other cameras I was concerned about how well the TS1 would handle the power requirements and memory for the video so I bought 3 extra batteries and two 32GB memory cards. That turned out to be an unnecessary precaution but gave me a month of travel with room to spare. Next time I'll leave the charger and adaptors at home to save weight.

An unexpected find was the Timbuk2 pouch that fit the camera perfectly and attached securely to my backpack strap. That provided easy access at all times and made for some impromptu shots that I'd never have gotten with the DSLR.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TS1S Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:

The Panasonic DMC-TS1 camera, at the time of writing, is overall better than its competitors' waterproof cameras: Canon PowerShot D10,Fuji FinePix Z33WP,Olympus Stylus Tough 8000,Pentax Optio W60/w80.

The DMC-TS1 is second to the Canon PowerShot D10 in respect to picture quality, but the DMC-TS1's 28mm wide angle lens + High-Definition Movie Resolution + super compact beautiful METALLIC body beats the Canon D10.

The DMC-TS1 is not as super-shock/freeze resistant as the Olympus Stylus Tough 8000, but the DMC-TS1 is SD-memory compatible + HD movie recording + high-end picture quality easily beats the bad-picture quality of the Tough 8000. In addition, the DMC-TS1 has a optional WATERPROOF CASE for those who wants to add further depth to water resistant and protection.

Pentax Optio W60/w80 and the DMC-TS1 are the only waterproof cameras with HD (high definition) movie/motion-picture recording, but the Optio W60/W80 lacks an image-stabilizer and has the WORSE picture quality of all the waterproof cameras.

If you want GOOD picture quality + HD movie recording + image stabilizer + COMPACT-metal-body(not thick/ugly like the canon) + optional expandable waterproof case(additional protection/water-depth) + movie-recording in the DARK(new feature) + 28mm wide angle lens(most other waterproof lacks), then you'll love the Panasonic DMC-TS1 camera.

What are the cons of the DMC-TS1 camera? not as 'tough' as the Tough 8000, Canon D10 has slightly better picture quality, not as cheap as Optio W60/80 and Fujipix Z33wp. Also, some people complains about water leaking into the battery compartment as the battery cover tends to loose after dozen of times of water-events, but my opinion is: if you take good care of the camera, this is NOT going to happen. Some people also complain the refresh rate of the LCD in the Panasonic DMC-TS1 is not as good as others, but keep in mind the DMC-TS1 is actually processing/calculating the screen display 'electronically' so to allow you to see technically up to 9.0x OPTICAL ZOOM (not digital zoom), and the slight slow/ghost-effect only happens during low-light conditions.

To sum up, the panasonic DMC-TS1 waterproof camera has the BEST OVERALL specs/rating of all waterproof cameras to date. One remark, the SILVER version looks metallic and is very nice looking in real, much better than in the photograph. Strongly recommended.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TS1S Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:

It's a good camera, full of features and pciture quality is great on daylight. In poor light situations the flash is not as good as I think it should be, and picture quality drops down to a lower level. Maybe the Panasonic engineers were worried about then action/sports lifestyle when designing the camera and I think that was their focus. The face recognition is terrible, simply doesn't work. I haven't tested its waterproof resistance and neither the shockproof(I hope I never need to test this. lol). Anyway, it's a good camera and you'll get some nice pictures, but don't expect that WOW effect.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TS1S Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:

We have broken two cannons in two years. Its always the lens. This is the perfect camera for the less than organized/clutzy. Ever jumped into a lake and then realized you had all you worldly valuables in your pocket? This is your camera. We've taken it skiing and it always works great and it takes excellent outdoor shots, nice panoramas, and surprisingly good movies. It has alot of shooting options that are fairly easy to use. We haven't tried it underwater but its gotten wet enough to ruin any other digital. It's also the ideal camera for using with kids since they literally can't break it no matter how hard they try (which they have).
We really like the styling and the fact that it doesn't look like a clunky underwater camera.
It doesn't take great low light shots but what point and shoot does. Condensation forms on the lens when you go from outdoors to indoors but goes away pretty quickly.
Image quality varies alot and getting really good indoor photos requires some tinkering.
All of these drawbacks are more than compensated for in the quality, reliability and ruggedness.

I haven't tried this camera out underwater yet, but what I've been most satisfied with are the following:

wide-angle, internal zoom lens
hd video
high quality photos

you might have to mess with the exposure to get the right shot in low-light but what matters is that its very possible to achieve. also, I use pinnacle ultimate studio hd to convert the avchd video to mpeg 4, which uploads really nice to youtube. the panasonic software is limited in what it can do with video.

Overall, this camera has exceeded my expectations and everyone who sees it is impressed with it!

Can't wait to try the water feature. Went to a hockey game and the pictures are really good. It's small enough to leave in your purse or even put in jacket pocket! There's lots of features on this camera... and it takes a while to get through everything but once you figure it out it's worth it!

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TS1S Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:

I have six digital cameras, three of which are Panasonic models: the DMC-FX01 (my first), the DMC-TZ-3 and the DMC-TS1S, my recent addition

As an architect and father of four active boys, I have different needs for a compact portable camera.

For project photos, the FX01 and TZ3 models offer outstanding picture quality with their Leica lens and wide angle feature (for me more important than a lot of zoom..). The TZ-3 is currently my favorite, despite its somewhat larger size. However, both are somewhat risky to use under inclement weather or in very aggressive project conditions.

As a father of four, I needed a versatile camera that could stand up to the punishment of outdoor events, regardless of the weather. In the past, I tried to resolve this by buying a waterproof housing, with disastrous results: they are expensive, inflexible and complicated to use, and if you are a normal user, such as I, you are going to loose a lot of memories due to fogging (I don't care what you hear, fogging is really difficult to control). And forget videos or access to a lot of the cameras features under water - you can't get to them.

Enter the DMC-TS1:

My trial run was tossing it in the middle of the pool filled with a bunch of kids -to their utter disbelief! - and letting them have a go at it. They took great pictures, videos - above and below water -and had a ball..all without reading a page of the user's manual!! The only thing I told them was to NOT open the camera under any circumstance.

The DMC-TS1 is what a great family camera was mean't to be: very good picture & videos, durable and easy/fun to use in rain, sun or snow! Finally.

If Panasonic includes the Leica lens of the FX01 (you don't need all the zoom of the larger TZ3), this would be a PERFECT, work as well, that is, unless, of course, you are a professional photographer..and, even if you are a pro (or think you are), then you probably wan't to include the TS1 anyways in your repertoire of cameras, for all the reasons mentioned above!

If you are going to have only one digital camera (stills and video), I highly recommend that it be the Panasonic DMC-TS1. Hands down.

Keep it up, Panasonic!

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TS1S Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:

I'm and outdoors person that loves to travel around the world. Bought the camera as something I could put in my pocket and take everywhere. The great thing is the camera can get dirty, wet, and even dropped and it will still work. The true bonus is shooting pictures underwater and make HD videos. It's the perfect travel camera. The only problem I've found is in very low light to dark Shooting. The flash works great, but some pictures end up soft (not sharp). If you play with it you can get the shot. To me it's not that big of a deal considering how well the over all shooting quality is in normal light and underwater. Plus during the day HD video lighting is great.

Best all-around sub-compact camera ever.
I use it for underwater shots, motorcycle trips, pics from my boat of skiers, construction jobsite pics, fireworks, short video clips, hi-speed burst of kids diving. Camera should be virtually indestructable under normal outdoor use. Must replace the little rubber seals on the 2 access doors every year, but the utility of carrying a waterproof camera is definitely worth it. Only downsides noted so far in the 2 weeks of ownership is controls are a bit close together for my fingers and lack of a view-finder, especially for underwater and fireworks shots.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TS1S Waterproof Digital Camera - Silver:

I bought this camera to be used on our vacation to Disney World. I wanted something that was compact and that I did not have to worry about getting wet or bumping around. So far I have been very happy with this camera as the pictures that it takes have turned out very good. The detail in the pictures is very high and I do not notice image noise in ISO 80/100 as I had in a previous Panasonic camera (that I ended up buying and returning a couple years ago because of noise issues). This camera does okay in low light situations if the subject is close to you (as the flash in ISO 80/100 is only about five feet), and if you have to up the ISO to get the picture, the NR is quite evident and image detail is lost. The camera's features are abundant (although it really is a point and shoot as there is little options for manual control) and the image stabilization and face detection are quite effective (I am still up in the air with the "face recognition" feature, as it does not always seem to correctly identify people I had manual set in the camera). But if you are buying this for a go everywhere camera, I don't believe that you can go wrong with the TS1 as it certainly does the job.
