I carry a camera all the time and use it as a teaching tool, as a tax assessor, for wildlife pix, and for family pictures. It is small, but has a terrific lens that takes very clear pictures. It also has a great zoom in such a small package that allows me to take 'up close' wildlife pictures without the bulk of a DSLR.

Bought this as a travel camera replacing my dslr, which I love but was too bulky. Just returned from a month long stay in Europe and used the camera daily to record photos and video. Ended up taking a total of 1800 shots and 20 videos all on a 16 gig card. The camera functioned flawlessly. The zoom worked great and the videos are awesome. The wide angle lens was also very helpful for landscape shots. Picture quality is not as good as my dslr, but that's to be expected. Video is excellent, especially the stabilization and zooming capability. Start up time is very good. I charged the battery each night and I never lost battery during it's use, even shooting 300 shots in a day. My only disappointment was in portrait scenes using flash, other than that a great camera especially at the price.

Low light photos have a brownish/orange tint even with using some of the indoor scene modes. Camera is new so still experimenting on how to improve low light photos. Awesome zoom.

I use the DMC-ZS5 for casual photography. Whenever I am unable to use my DSLR, I use the DMC-ZS5 and invariably am pleased with the results.
I did a lot of research before getting the DMC-ZS5, because I was hoping to buy a good point and shoot camera which gives some manual controls (with regards to shutter speed for example). And the DMC-ZS5 fits the bill perfectly.
Although, it does not extend its array of functions to lend the user complete manual control, it manages to do a very good job at satisfying the naive photographer in me.
After all, thats what one expects from a point and shoot camera!!!

I did a lot of research before deciding which camera I wanted. I was looking for a compact camera, but with a lot of zoom and they were few and far between. I haven't find anything wrong with this camera, its GREAT!!! It doesn't have a viewfinder, but I would not have used it even if it did.

It is really a nice camera to have. Earlier I purcahsed Sony ericcson Camcorder, but the image quality was poor. Then I purchased this camera, I got what I wanted. It is having great picture quality as well as good video capability. I would recommend this camera to those, who are looking for a camcorder capability in a camera.

After doing a fair amount of research I chose the Panasonic DMC-ZS5. The Leica Lens is wonderful and the camera gives great results. After a recent trip to Glacier Nat'l park,we put the camera thru its paces and were really pleased. The intelligent auto mode is effective and the pics are crisp and clear. I would highly recommend the ZS5 to anyone looking for an effective, small aim and shoot camera.

The Panasonic DMC-ZS5 is a great little camera with a big zoom and yet a small profile. Just came back from a trip and I am very pleased with the pictures. With the exception of have challenges with the stability in low light, it is outstanding.

Used the camera for a last-minute trip overseas. Took only a little time to figure-out (the logic's similar to other cameras). Had no problems at all. It's a great camera (esp with its long zoom) for the price.

Great compact still camera that does HD video. I have a higher end still and a higher end video camera and this is a very nice compact device that does both pretty well. It is great for travel and to carry with you in a jacket pocket or purse on a daily basis. Also, it has high optical zoom and can zoom in and out while recording video.

We upgraded from a 5 yr old 4 MP camera,so basically ANY new camera would've been an improvement, but we really like the features of the ZS5. The Intelligent Auto is great, and we also like the preset scenes. The 12x optical zoom is nice to have, plus its small size is a bonus. Just about fits in your pocket, but have so much more than a regular "pocket" camera. Our ZS5 even withstood a 3' drop onto rocks by my 5 yr old a week after we got it (ugh!)! It did get a bit scratched on the view screen, but the camera functions fine. Tough stuff!

The automatic settings are perfect for everyday use. Just point and shoot. Easy panarama photos and video settings. Easy menus also.

It's difficult to use becuase there are so many options! Good thing full auto mode is easy to use as I'm still learning. The manual on CD is pretty good. But it's hard to look up something quick becuase it's not in print. The printed manual is very basic. Battery seemed to give up too early but it ws the first charge.

Zoom is awesome. I took some pictures at 16x and only later saw what they were. You can handhold this thing at 16x too.

I have now owned this camera for over a month now and have already used this in couple of trips. This product has a very good price/value. I am very much impressed with the video quality. I have always used a cannon cameras before and the picture quality compare to Cannon is not that good, nevertheless the difference is very unnoticeable. Plus this camera is faster than any Cannons I have used.

I am really Proud to be the owner of this cam. There are 3 strengths of the camera. Good Image Stabilization, Great Zoom(16X, with the intelligent zoom you can reach 23X) and good control. The weaknesses are the short battery life(you should get 1-2 additional batteries if you don't want to charge your cam in a whole day), poor in low light(it's not convenient when I tried to catch the scenery in downtown San Francisco at night) and long lag time. Family photos, travel and video would be the top 3 primary uses of this cam. In a word, it's a great cam. And you won't regret getting one of these.

This camera is easy to use. My wife and I both have used it easily from the get go. I like that the camera warms up the picture to give people nice skin tones making pictures look the way you think they should. The Zoom is great. Great Clarity.

I bought this unit to take the place of the big camera when traveling by public air. I don't have to pay extra baggage fees as I can put this in my pocket or a small bag. It's point and shoot capability is simple but I can also make all the changes I want for a special shot. It's images make great additions to my videos as well. Especially when shot in the 16:9 mode

In automatic mode it takes great pictures. Once you get the hang of manual mode, the pictures are amazing. You can then save how you set it up in manual and keep it in custom mode (C1, C2 or C3). This way, if you are in a similar situation again, just turn the wheel to custom and give it a try for fast customization. When in doubt, you cant go wrong in IA mode anyway. Great camera for someone that wants the camera to do all the work or get creative and make your own settings and learn more about photography. Video looks great but files saved to memory card will be larger than the zs7 that has AVCHD video, so you may want a card with more gigs (i find these are getting cheaper all the time). Still HD video though.

Excellent camera with better than average build quality, powerful (and high-quality)lens and intuitive manual controls.

However, included battery only rated at 895 mAh. Definitely recommend adding on the DMW-BCG10 high capacity battery pack by Power2000(rated at 1250 mAh). Has no problems working with Panasonic's firmware and has the same built-in safety features included in Panasonic brand batteries...only will last much longer.

I did the research a few years ago and loved panasonic for their compact size and huge zoom without sacrificing image quality. plus the wide angle lens is great. my old dmc tz3 broke so i got the new zs5 and have been very pleased with all the manual features of the camera, plus all the same great preprogammed options. I absolutely recommend this camera to everyone who likes great pictures.

This camera does just about everything. The Leica lens, 12x zoom, the automatic and manual settings, built in memory, macro zoom and many other features.

Best of all great pictures.

You will be hard pressed to find a camera in this price range with these options.

Love this camera! It took an hour or so to orient myself to the controls and menu options, but once I did, WOW! Pictures bursting with color, extremely sharp edges, it's hard not to take a good shot with this! Love the burst mode for action shots, a must for parents and sports enthusiasts alike. I'd recommend this camera to anyone with two thumbs.
