I take my camera with me everywhere I go, and I don't like taking bad pictures so this camera is perfect.
This little mighty-mite even has GPS stamp which is a first for me.

The only tip I have for users is each and everytime you turn your camera off, flip it to review mode as well. This way if the power button get knocked to on inadvertantly which is easy done, it won't damage your camera. If it's in a case and that lens comes out there's a good chance you just took you last photo with that camera.

Only Zoom in to 12x optical Zoom. Do not use the 4X Digital Zoom. It degrades the picture.

I thought that I could use it to take movie pictures of my annimated christmas display, but so far I haven't been able to get it to take a movie with as good a quality as my old Sony Video camera.

The camera takes great pictures; the location of button for movies is not in good location; easy to accidently turn off while holding camera. Also, the audio pick-up on top of camera can easily be covered when taking a movie. Directions for the various functions of the camera are difficult to follow. Shutter speed could be faster

I purchased this camera for general use, but also for a trip I had coming up. I played with it for the 2 week trip, and easily discovered how to take most photos that I wanted, including with manual settings.

The wildlife/travel photos were great, and stunning. Night photography was as well, on -manual- where I adjusted things significantly. However, for plain night photos in auto mode, the camera is disappointing, but not bad! I'm hoping with some tinkering that it'll improve and I can take quick and easy low light shots.

Other cool features - GPS photo location, with place names, and a great viewier (LCD). As well the action 'following' feature is great for keeping what you want in focus, as it's running around.

We were on a trip with two other couples. Everyone's pictures were placed on one disc for all to share. The pictures taken on my camera were much clearer, more true to color, far better than the cameras used by the others.

I use this to create technical procedures. It works great for close, far, depth, telephoto, low-light, anything you can throw at it. It performs as well as my Nikon D40 at 1/3 of the size.

I love the small size but it also makes it easier to fall out of a pocket or purse. (So I'm not very careful.)I have dropped this camera on cement and it still functions correctly. There are a few nicks but it didn't break. This is so great for travel!

This camera was great for travel-easy to carry and great photos for a small camera. The software doesn't work with Apple computers and movies can't be downloaded into Iphoto. I really missed the viewfinder.

I bought this camera for a hunt in Alaska and was very happy with it's performance. It is easy enough for a novice to use with it's Intelligent Auto mode which consistently takes perfect pictures. Two other User modes save your favorite settings so you don't have to waste time adjusting for changing conditions. Amazing Zoom!

This is a replacement for a stolen TZ-5. The GPS is nice, but a little slow to find itself. The manual settings are nice too. The battery life is OK, but not as good as the TZ-5.

Replaced a Canon camera with this model. Much happier. Takes good pictures - I usually leave the flash off because the picture quality is better - even in very low light. Much easier to use than the Canon. Intuitive. Bought the Class 6 image card and I'm told that helps with the speed. Very happy with this purchase.

A very good mega-zoom camera. Nice pictures, lag time not to bad, and many features. The only problem is with the GPS, I was on the 10th floor of a hotel and it could not even update the location. Other than that, its a very good camera.

A very capable camera. Easy to use, powerful zoom, but don't expect to be able to use maximum zoom range when using the camera in a hand held mode. You not only be challenged to keep the camera still enough for the focus to work; you will have a hard time keeping a small subject even in the LCD.
Make sure you select the automatic brightness mode for the LCD when you shoot outside on a bright day...the standard mode is too dim, especially if wearing polarized sunglasses.

This is the best camera my husband and I have ever owned! We got it to take on our honeymoon, and we are so happy we did! The zoom is amazing, and the picture quality is crytal-clear! Picture stablization is great, even in a vehicle moving 50 mph! We like to keep it on the automatic setting bec. that's what we're comfortable with, and it works great. I would say my one complaint would be that the other buttons are difficult to figure out...you pretty much would need to read through the manual, which obviously we didn't do before the honeymoon. We got really great pics with the automatic setting, though, and are very happy we chose this camera!

This was the first non-SLR camera I've used extensively. Used this out of the box on a 3-week trip in Australia and was pleasantly surprised by the very high quality of the images and ease of use. I only used the video function a little, but it was also good. The GPS function is very handy on trips like this.

Clear, crisp images. Video is clean and audio is clear (even the wind cut-out feature works well). I am very happy with the camera; I do have a few little nit-picky comments, but they are on minor factors. Automatic setting is straightforward and takes a solid picture, sometimes focusing on seven different frame elements (every now and then it locks on to the wrong one). On/off and shoot/playback switches are easy to manipulate and to get used to. I now like them better than the buttons on my older Canon. I like the dedicated video button (one less thing to fiddle with when you are mixing stills and video). The optical zoom on the video works great! One very minor drawback is that when you take a "portrait" (vertical) still shot, the playback only shows it in landscape mode (smaller, with black bars on the side). Overall, it's the best non-SLR camera that I have used.

I'm not a photo enthusiast so I rely on the auto everything function so take this review with that in mind.

This camera takes poor photos in low light and full sun. The colors are not crisp and they look grainy. Also the controls don't feel natural. The button locations make using the camera a very clunky experience.

Image stabilization is decent, but no pocket camera can take good action shots.

The camera does look very nice (especially in blue). The HD videos it takes are also great. But I bought the camera to take pictures not video, so I had to return it.

This lightweight camera is a heavy weight when it comes to providing value. Great still shots plus HD video. I still use my Nikon D300 as an avid photographer however for traveling this pocket size PPanasonic is all I need.

I have taken some fully zoomed pictures and found the detail very good. Low light pictures have not been a problem. I have used both the IA and scene settings and found them both quite good. I like the PINHOLE setting in the scenes to set off special areas. I bought the extra life battery and find that it has out-lasted my shooting needs so far. The picture quality is excellent and I look forward to taking some videos shortly. The charger is compact and relatively quick.

I'm taking more pictures than ever since I received this compact camera. Very easy to download pictures and video's into my PC . Pictures taken have been high quality. I do wish the camera would have more internal memory as I feel that is a limitation but not a drawback.

I have not used the GPS function and for now have it disabled so it does not use the battery. I will use this function when we travel this summer.

I'm rating it 4 stars because I know other cameras have a larger internal memory and it did not allow me to rate it 4.5 which is where I'd actually rate it. I really like this camera.

I gave my old Lumix to my daughter to take to Spain so she could shoot excellent photos and decent video. I wanted the ZS7 because it offered the GPS feature, a more powerful zoom, a beautiful LCD monitor, lots of custom settings and stereo mics for video recording in HD.

This is a very nice compact camera with a great zoom. Easy point and shoot, yet you can also have as many options as you want to set and use. Pictures are sharp. Best tiny video camera I have seen with HD quality videos. Still learning how to use/share/etc the videos. Wish that part was compatible with more common programs I have used in past. If you plan to use just one battery and will be out for the day using it a lot, don't bother to review what you have taken esp. the movies. This will really help eat up your battery life. Get a 4mb card and review later when you have a power source to recharge.

I have been using Nikon Pro SLR/DSLR's for 30 years but wanted a new point and shoot for my wife. What amazes most is the USABLE zoom range at relatively fast speeds. Images are surprisingly sharp from edge to edge, from wide angle to full zoom. Low light and full light pictures are better than expected. 3" LCD screen is nearly as nice as my $2800 Nikon body!!!! Battery life seems descent but, I recommend an extra (strangely, Panasonic says it must be their own???). With only limited use of the flash, it seems to be very adequate. Start-up and focus speeds are among the best in the industry.
The camera has a multitude of presets and programs but allows for user/manual settings if you're into really tickling your shots.
The biggest surprise is the video section of this camera. My wife shot my son's track event from the bleachers and the results blew me away (even from the far side of the track). The video and the audio were crazy for anything in this price range. Forget that it's the video section of a point and shoot. **Important feature is the ability to zoom in video mode. If the camera you are looking at doesn't say it, it doesn't do it!!!**
The user's manual is not the best. You can get to taking pictures quickly but to digest all of the features you'll need some time to read the manual (several times).
Layout and controls are all accessible and are intuitive. Size is on the slightly large side of the typical point and shoot but certainly still small enough to put in pocket and light enough carry all day without issue. I read somewhere that using the wrist strap was a good idea. Because of the size, shape, weight and of course cost, I agree!
Downside? The provided software is not compatible with Apple. I recommend using a card reader to upload the sd card to your computer. That will circumvent the need for your Mac to recognize your camera. You'll find that iphoto and imovie work just as always at that point.
The inboard GPS is of no interest to me but I can see where travelers and those who shoot in remote areas might love it.
I researched most of the Panasonic (as well as other's) point and shoot cameras and far and away the DMC-ZS7 is the best bang for the buck. While not cheap, feature for feature and the with the quality of the photo and audio/video sections, this guy is an absolute bargain. I highly recommend the DMC ZS7.
My previous Panasonic items have proven to be bulletproof so I don't envision any issues that would change my mind on this camera.

I received this camera as a gift from my husband. I told him I wanted a quality camera - not the run of the mill digital that can be purchased from any large retailer. He struggled to decide (w/o asking my opinion) between this camera and a D-SLR. Initially I was a little disappointed - my vanity wanted the D-SLR (a real photographer's camera). But the reality is that this camera has all and more than I need. Love it!

Bought this camera as a replacement for my Lumix ZS5 which is the previous model of this camera. Although on paper the ZS7 does not appear to be a dramatic step forward, I find this camera to be significantly better than it's predecessor.

Startup times are faster, image quality is noticeably better, zoom is better, addition of full manual mode is very welcomed, GPS positioning seems unnecessary for many uses at the moment but may help extend the useful service life of this camera as I intend on using it for a very long time!

HD Videos turn out great too, with very good sound quality.

Only downside is that it is a little bit bulky to carry around everywhere but I geuss I am being unrealistic to get all these features and quality in a smaller package! Battery life is also a little short but if you carry one spare batter around with you all the time its no big deal.

If you want nearly the best compact camera you can get that isn't SLR, this is the go!

This is one "handy-dandy" camera !
Being a semi-pro photographer, I've owned several "top of the line" film and digital cameras over my 40+ years of experience.
Sure. It's always possible to "split hairs" and "nit pick" all the pros and cons of a camera but, BOTTOM LINE . . .
this good looking, tiny dynamo quickly and simply has become my camera of choice !
I plop it in my pocket and take it with me wherever I go!

The GPS feature would be more useful if one could actually stamp the picture itself with the data. The on-line manual also needs updating and made easier to understand, especially on where the GPS data is stored.
