Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Black:

Coming from FX100, it's exactly what I was looking for 2 years - keep all the strengths of FX100 (tons of scenery options, good quality, 8-fps half-res sport mode, etc), and add everything it lacked (powerful zoom, full manual controls). GPS is a nice gimmick, I like geotagged pictures, having them made by my phone spoiled me.
This camera is a powerhouse. It can do tons of things - regular point-and-shoot, macro shots, sports, even night landscape shots from tripod with manual exposure. And the best thing about it is - it can do all those while fitting in my pocket.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Black:

Took the camera out of the box and on a two week vacation out west. I know nothing about taking pictures but this camera did all of the work. It seemed to have trouble figuring out how best to take a picture with contrasting light and dark light between forground and background. But there is probably a setting that will take care of that. The target focusing, paneramic mode, burst photo and picture quality all impressed me. I dropped it once and the housing got scratched up but it did not effect the workings at all. As far as I can tell this is a fantastic camera.

A great camera with an excellent zoom, which takes good pictures and is packed with features. I am not sure I will ever get to use all of them (e.g. face recognition??!!) The user manual is over 170 pages and the photo software is over 140 pages and both are only provided in soft copy on CD. Reviews warned of low light poor image quality and they were right - but I don't use it much in this way.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Black:

I bought this camera just before a trip to Italy. It proved easy to use, convenient to carry and access, and capable of producing excellent imagers in good lighting conditions. Image stabilization with telephoto is very good. Battery life not so great with the battery supplied in the kit, but aftermarket high capacity battery proved very helpful. Disappointing image quality in low light. Beautiful hi def videos using AVCHD Lite, but the other side of the coin is the fact that they have made it extremely cumbersome if not impossible to view and edit videos by computer for a Mac user--ironic, as Mac is in general the platform of choice for video. Overall I like the camera, but the snafu with video editing is ultimately the deal-breaker.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Black:

I grew weary of waiting a long time to take the next photo, and wanted something much, much faster. I also wanted hi-def resolution and a better zoom. The camera also had to survive hundreds, and even thousands, of miles in a bag or knapsack of my Harley, and wouldn't be treated with kid gloves.

This Lumix DMC-Zs7 camera does everything I wanted and a lot more. Time permitting, I experiment with shooting modes with terrific results, but most photos are taken on a spur of the moment, and often at speed on a highway or back road. The shots are remarkable, and I get none of the credit. It's great and is ready for the next shot almost immediately.

It's also very well constructed and I've very pleased with it.

I am real impressed with this camera. The zoom and stability control at max digital is surprisingly good. Simple control over the camera is readily avaible (flash, exposure, mode selection). I didn't buy it for the GPS but am starting to find it useful. I was concerned about no view finder but haven't had a problem with that yet. Nice big bright screen.

1st - this is a really great camera for most uses. It takes really good video in both good light & decently lit indoors - even some low light situations, but if it's too dark the image won't show up. I use this primarily for taking video of automotive racing & bands in club settings. It works really well for both. The zoom is a little slow during video, but the image is very stable, audio is excellent (I also record bands with a lipstick stereo mic & the internal mic rivals that), & picture quality is good. Pic quality is VERY good in well lit situations, but in low light with flash the images can get a little flat & funky. The Canon SD1000 I used prior takes better dark room flash photos, but this is still very good. I'd buy it again.

I find myself using this more than my D200. Very portable, accurate light readings. The 25-300 zoom covers just about any situation. The lag time is a non-issue. Of course the flash is not all that powerful being a point and shoot camera.
I gave this 4 stars only because they do not have a rear view eyepiece.

The GPS encoding feature helps organize similar shots from different locales, as on vacation. Would love to have a viewfinder. Built in slide show even includes music! Extra battery is a useful addition. Almost too small for bigger hands. Fine tool for general and travel photography.

While this camera cannot compete with the digital SLRs, it is tops in its class. As I get older and no longer want to carry the larger SLR or large lense type cameras, I can carry this in a compact case on my belt. I am casual user and have owned many cameras. This is easy to use at any moment and though feature packed is very unobtrusive.

I did a lot of research into compact travel zoom cameras and settled on this one. So far, after a month, I like what it does. The intelligent auto function works well in most situations. Sometimes indoor shooting under fluorescent lighting confuses it. Switching it over to Program mode solved that issue for me. It takes great pictures and good HD video (720p). It has a lot of nice features. A little expensive but worth it to me. The GPS feature is nice if you travel a lot. It picked up many spots like the zoo for example. For me it was a good purchase.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Black:

This is a great alternative to a large SLR digital camera. I travel on motorcycle and bicycle, as well as travel lightly on airlines. Having a versatile small camera with at least 75% capabilities and qualities of a high-end SLR is great. It was way easier to use and with a little fiddling, I could figure out how to manually adjust the camera for different situations. Also, I didn't find the battery life problematic. I did, however, remember to turn off the GPS when I wasn't going to use the camera for a while as the GPS does turn on intermittently to update where it is. That makes it nice to quickly have GPS data, but that is also where people complained of shorter battery life.

I love this camera its one of the best i ever got. The zoom is amazing. I always been a big fan of canon and i bought a canon sd3500, then i exchanged for this camera its way better than the canon. The screen is super bright. The camera have lots of features that you don't see in other cameras. Image quality is amazing, Low light is good (but you need to download the new firmware) they improved the flash light. GPS is a cool feature but it kills the battery if left on. HD videos are great.[...]I recommend this camera for everyone looking for a compact SLR quality camera.

While there is only a "quick start" manual in paper, the on-line manual is very good -- just takes time to get to. Easy to use right out of the box. Menu displays walk you through options, which are common sense. Easy to change light source, which is good when going inside and outside. Easy to erase unwanted pictures. Limited internal storage is adequate to get started, but order or buy a card and get a spare battery (not that it doesn't last long enough, but just to have it when needed).

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Black:

Compared to the ZS1 which I upgraded from, this camera is much faster with improved focus time, zoom time and shot to shot lag. The new chip does a better job of processing images and with the higher pixel density I expected more noise, but it actually is better. There are a few more unnecessary options and gadgets on it, but the camera overall is solid and worth the money. Get a spare battery as GPS eats battery a little faster. Nice feature but only useable when you have time to get a lock on sats.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Black:

I wanted a quality camera that I could put in my shirt pocket so that it would be handy should I see something worthy of photographing, but I wanted as few compromises of quality as possible. Wide angle, about 24mm, was also a priority. An integral dust cap was important for quickness to make a shot. I have a large SLR, but its big and heavy,so it winds up being left at home.
I like the wide angle 12x quality zoom, the solid build quality, the style, the picture quality, though I expected to be better than the earlier model and that may be slightly inferior instead.
I would like faster lens. I miss a viewfinder.
Altogether, a fine, very versatile, compact, very practical camera for anyone who wants a camera that will travel in a pocket for shots without an intolerable compromise in quality of photos. The HD video is a plus, as so many people want to see motion more than look at still pictures.

I bought this camera to carry with me whenever I could not tote my DSLR and was also attracted to the GPS. I wanted something small, good quality and good build. I think this camera meets those criteria. I find as a RAW SLR photographer, that I turn off all the extras, including the intelligent zoom (takes you to 16x), and I shoot in P or A mode. I like the GPS. Lumix point and shoot cameras seem as good or better than many Canon or NIkon point and shoots.

This is camera is for those of you seeking to replace an outdated DSLR and yet maintain manual controls and excellent wide angle to telephoto optics. Just like any DSLR, the flash is weak. The GPS is great, but it takes a little too long to update the location, however this is no different for the brand new GPS-enabled DSLRs.
For you Mac users, the HD video does not transfer automatically. You must do that manually.

I like the image stabilization feature. No more blurry photos. I took all my shots with the auto settings and was very pleased. When you get this camera read the manual good. There are so many features it will take a while to learn them all. Abe's sent it out fast but called first to verify all the info was correct. You won't be disappointed with this point and shoot camera.

This camera has the important things that I require such as the 12.1 megapixel, 25mm wide angle Leica lens and a fabulous zoom.

I am very positive about this camera so I don't look for bad features. I will say that on my ZS3 I use to accidentally hit the video record button, but I haven't done that yet on the ZS7.

I've only had this camera for a few weeks, but have been very impressed with its ease of use and photo quality. Amazing zoom range for such a compact camera. I look forward to taking this camera on trips in the near future. The video will be a nice feature, altho I won't likley make this my primary video camcorder. Battery life seems fine so far; do have some concerns about replacement batteries needing to be compatible and reportedly pretty costly.

Small, light, great image quality. I love that it GPS tags my photos. The only downside so far that I've found is poorer image quality in the dark/low light. However, you can customize many settings (like a SLR) and I do not have the photographic knowledge to do so, so I am probably not maximizing my image quality. Highly recommended.

I'm on the Ventura County Sheriff's Mountain Search and Rescue Team so we spend a lot of time in the wilderness. My primary camera is a Cannon EOS 5D MkII and it takes excellent pictures, but it's too big to take on rescues. I can put the DMZ-CS7 in my pocket and with it's 12X zoom I can get really good action shots of our team in action. The built in flash makes it a really versatile camera and the Macro Zoom lets you get within a couple of inches of flowers, insects, etc.

When this camera arrived I removed it from the box, installed the battery and memory, took two shots, and I knew right away that I had made the right choice. Excels in wide-angle low-light and no flash (museums). Full auto mode really works as advertised, but I can go full manual if I want. I researched point-and-shoots for 3 months for my European trip and it went between the Lmuixes and the Canon SX210, got this one because of the great IS and zoom. The HD video is very nice too.

This is really a 14.1 megapixel camera; Panasonic just doesn't use some pixels in order to get full 12.1 mp resolution no matter which format (4:33:2/16:9) is used.
Love the GPS, especially when 'places' is enabled and it tells you the building you're standing in front of. But the GPS can be inaccurate if it hasn't locked enough satellites (sometimes 100 feet off).

To show the zoom and stability, the images below are of a shoreline 5.4 miles away. The first shot taken with no zoom and the second at full digital iZoom. The building beneath the 'v' in the first, un-zoomed image is shown in the second, zoomed image.

My only complaint is slow (~1/2 sec) shutter lag; I sometimes did not get my best shot, but then again, this is NOT an SLR. Otherwise I'd give it 5 stars.

My only gripe is battery support -- I have 3 Panasonic batteries (all same model), but only two will function in the ZS7. My ZS3 will use all three, plus a generic battery as well...

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Black:

This is a great camera for a beginner---Point and shoot. Lots of control for advance photographers. I'm sorry to say I don't lug around a camera bag and tripod anymore. Just slip this in my purse.

I waited a long time to upgrade from the first generation Panasonic Lumix TZ1 (complete with dangling lens cover & 5MP) Glad I did. The best improvements are the quick power-up and lack of a shutter delay for catching fast action. If you leave it in the completely automatic mode it does an impressive job---and if you need control there's plenty and then some. Lots of programs plus aperture and shutter priority or complete control.

Other notable improvements are in the macro end of things where capturing very fine close-ups are greatly improved---my TZ1 was always focusing on the background if I could get it to focus at all. This does an incredible job! Almost too much detail (if that's possible) Every speck on the petal of a flower is exposed. This camera is slightly smaller and has a larger display screen. Most of the functions and dials are similar and I find easy to use but that may be because they are familiar.

Flash is improved over the first generation.
The zoom on the original was 10X. 12X even better. I took incredible photos of bullfrogs 15 feet away. Unbelievable detail.

This camera isn't perfect and no camera will ever be. It would be nice to have a more powerful flash and nice if you could shoot in lower light with less noise without flash and it would be nice if it had a 20X optical zoom and a faster lens but for what it is its an incredible piece of engineering. AND don't forget the Leica lens which is just plain beautiful.

All cameras have limitations and this is no exception. However it will get you a great photo most of the time. The wide angle to long telephoto range is why I bought my first Lumix. This flexibility makes for great travel photos. I did side by side comparisons of a Sony, Canon, Nikon and the first Lumix in the store and then we printed them out on the spot. No comparison. No ghosting, better color correction, better macro. And I like the ergonomics. I always place the wrist band over my wrist and hold onto the camera with fingers and pad of thumb and it feels secure. Some of the ultra small cameras are almost too small for me. (Didn't compare to current models)

What is truly awful about this camera is that the manual is on a disk and covers this camera and its 2 predecessors making it a bit (if Not totally confusing at times). It also does not come with MAC compatible editing software which is really not a big deal for me. One person asked if it is MAC OSX 10.6.3 compatible and it is. The only problem I've encountered is in using Aperture (a MAC program)it doesn't want to import directly into a project that has other images from my other Lumix camera. Make a new project and problem is solved but irritating. (Manual software and downloading from card to MAC is compatible)

Haven't tried uploading video yet.

I spent 1 1/2 hours on phone with Panasonic discussing the absence of an adequate instruction manual for the camera. A customer must pay $23 extra to Panasonic fora hardcopy of the "advanced" manual. They claim they are going green but it is just to save them money because they provide the manual on a cd and the customer can print it and incur the cost and inconvenience.

As long as you have good lighting this camera really shines. The flexibiliy and quality of the lens and the size can't be beat. If you're coming from a DSLR, don't expect similar results though. This is still a point an shooter (albeit an excellent one), so there are some tradeoffs for the convenience. As long as you don't pixel peep too much, I think you'll be very happy.

The video quality, which is something I didn't think I'd use, is phenominal.

I used this camera for everyday photography. It is really light weight and easy to carry anywhere but not in a shirt pocket. There is some shutter lag but the great pictures the camera takes makes it up for it. The camera could have longer battery life as video making drains the battery quickly. So always have a spare battery with you.
