Purchased this to replace a five year old digital before a European trip. The photos are absolutley fantastic. Everyone we have shown the photos and prints to has commented on the clarity and color of them. We just set it on "intelligent auto" and started shooting. I am sure we will learn more features of this camera as we continue to use it.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7S 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Silver:

Even the basic manual doesn't give enough info to use camera for simple photos. The 178 pg manual is unclear and missing how to do some operations.

It was a big shock that, though the camera price was reasonable, the accessories cost far more than the camera.

The LCD screen is invisible in bright light, but ok if used with a shade.

Changing battery, memory cards are both easy. Some functions are intuitive, but too many aren't. Great zoom.

Some accessories, like ac adapter and folding screen shade, are very hard to find, even using the internet.

I thought I had no use for the GPS function, but find it useful and fun.

If you're traveling far from computers and electricity, you'd better bring several pre-charged batteries along. Film cameras were far more portable and could travel for several weeks on a single battery, with no need for electric current or computers for downloading.

this is useful camera for travel. It labels each shot with gps coordinates. The supplied software is poor, but you can get the excellent geo tag program called GeoSetter. This is shareware, but well worth sending the programmer a few bucks! This program even generates a Google earth file for your pics.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7S 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Silver:

I chose this camera after comparing the reviews of this camera and the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX5V. I was interested in a compact camera with a built in GPS for geotagging since I can never remember the description of landmarks that I visit after a vacation. This camera performs very well. It's low light performance is better than I expected from the reviews. It has many neat automated features while still having some manual adjustments available. Also, the Photo Fun Studio software that comes bundled with the camera was better than the reviews indicated. I am easily able to download AVCHD movies that I shoot, insert titles, and burn the movie to a DVD disk that can be played an any DVD player. Get a big fast SDHC card if you plan on taking videos, otherwise, a class 6 4gb card is if fine for just photos.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7S 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Silver:

I have had a TZ-1 and a TZ-5, and they have been great cameras. The ZS-7 is a worthy successor, and seems to match all the old capabilities and then some. The four greatest improvements I have found are: (1) manual shutter and aperture settings, (2) customizable settings, (3) dedicated movie button, and (4) GPS.

GPS is a mixed bag. I expect later generations will improve usability, but right now it is little more than a curiosity. I have had to fight against a tendency to shoot pictures for the sake of GPS, simply because it is there -- best strategy is to ignore it and use that information as a bonus.

GPS takes a long time (minutes) to acquire and often requires a good view of the sky. Updates too infrequently (5 minutes) to be useful when driving about. There needs to be a way to retag photos taken just prior to coordinate acquisition with correct coordinates. No height information.

I wish Panasonic didn't engage in the Megapixel inflationary wars. A sensor with low noise is more useful than a noisy one with double the Mpix. I still love the quality of the images that came out of the 5Mpix TZ-1. But zoom into the image on this one, and the effect is a bit blah.

After hours of research, I assumed, shame on me, based on what I read, I was unable to find the product to do a hands on, that the ZS7 was and enhanced ZS5. I loved the IZoom on the ZS5. I totally dislike the zoom on the ZS7. It takes too long to focus, just like it's competitors.

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7S 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Silver:

The user friendliness of the camera is excellent, the flexibility to shoot in full and semi-manual modes is great, and the lens is simply outstanding, especially at its widest. On the minus side, the intelligent auto can occasionally be tricked into focusing on the wrong part of the frame and it's hard to recognize when this is happening. All in all, an outstanding point and shoot!

Comments about Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS7S 12.1 Megapixel Digital Camera with 12x Optical Zoom, 3.0 inch LCD, AVCHD Lite Movie - Silver:

The camera is a bit on the complicated side, but that is because it can do a lot. If all you want to do is point and shoot, this is probably not the camera for you. Its pictures are clear for the most part, although I did get a few that were blurry, but the ones that were were all indoor/ low light and changing the settings and using the programmable mode or one of the scene modes cleared that up. The white balance could be a bit better, automatic white balance is a bit yellow and it took a bit of trickery to set the camera's white balance to my liking manually. Flash is average for a point and shoot, I would have thought that with all that this camera can do, that would have been better. Zoom is outstanding. Unless a person wants to go to a bulky slr camera, there is nothing better. Color is very good and videos are crystal. The camera body is small and easy to carry. Will fit easily into a pocket or purse, which means it can go any where easily with no extra baggage. The stablization on this thing is the best I have seen. I took a picture out the window of my house while I was deliberately moving the camera and the picture came out clear. All in all this is a very good camera and I am very pleased with it.

Autosettings are better or as good as manual settings.
Reported to have poor light performance but was able to take acceptable pictures without flash and under very dim indoor lighting situations.
Loved being able to lock focus on moving objects. Great for capturing kiddies.
GPS slow to acuire from fresh start. Accurate to 10 to 50 yards.Good enough for geotagging travel shots.
