Comments about Pentax K200D SLR Digital Camera & 18-55mm II Lens:

So far I have ben very pleased with my camera and my purchase from Abes of Maine. There is quite a bit to learn in the manuel but it gets easier the more you use it. It would be nice to have a "help" button like the D2000 has but then you give up the weather sealed body. All of my old auto focus lenses from my ZX10 work fine and battery life has ben very good even with all the extra playing around while learning it. The camera has a very solid and well built feel to it and the controls are laid out nicely. I'd give it five stars but I'm not convinced anything is ever "perfect"

Comments about Pentax K200D SLR Digital Camera & 18-55mm II Lens:

I do mostly sports and wildlife and some astrophotography.
I would rate this a 4 1/2 if that were an option. It's a great camera - just not quite perfect.
I really like being able to use all my old Pentax lenses. It's a little complicated to figure how to make them work, but not bad after you get the hang of it. My Tamron lenses with adapters work fine too.
My old dedicated flash works with it too.
It is extremely easy to use with automatic lenses.
The image stabilization is especially impressive. I took pictures of the grouping of the Moon, Jupiter and Venus handheld with a 300 millimeter lens and they're incredibly sharp.
There are a few situations where I'd like to be able to view the scene in the monitor while taking a picture.

Comments about Pentax K200D SLR Digital Camera & 18-55mm II Lens:

I have used the K-200 to get shots for video slideshows, as well as during travel. Takes good pictures, even in low-ligt due to high ISO range. Grain is acceptable even at high ISO setting. Accepts old Pentax lenses, but works best if they have auto exposure (manual exposure is a hassle with old lenses).

Comments about Pentax K200D SLR Digital Camera & 18-55mm II Lens:

First time out with a DSLR we took it on our trip to Hawaii. The camera got a fare share of sea water splashes rain and lava tube drips and did not fail or skip a beat. Bought a generic 8gb SDHC card and it worked flawlessly. Only problem with the camera and this card was that the camera would not show how many pictures we could take on the card until it got below 999. The camera has great battery life but it is picky on the type of battery. Energizer Lithiums work best followed by Energizer Rechargeable 2450Mah and any brand alkaline. Could not get my Duracell 2600Mah or Digital 2000Mah rechargeables to work at all. My old very well used Energizer 1600Mah NiMhs worked for about 10 shots :-). On our 10 day trip we used up the one set of Rechargables and just started on the Lithiums. Shot over 1200 pictures with lots of flash use.

Comments about Pentax K200D SLR Digital Camera & 18-55mm II Lens:

I was looking for a camera that I could use my manual K-mount lenses on. This was the perfect choice for me. I find I take alot of close up pics and I missed my old zoom/macro lens. The pictures came out great. I didn't need a camera with alot of bells and whistles on it, just a good basic SLR. I am VERY pleased with the Pentax.

Comments about Pentax K200D SLR Digital Camera & 18-55mm II Lens:

As Stated above, to me it is simple to use for the new photographer as well as complex for the seasoned photographer like myself who want unusual shots. I would challenge the Pentax against the double the price Nikon who in my opinion are just paying for the name as a status symbol.
