Canon has managed to produce cameras that are not only easy to use but use command logic transferable across different models. They start up quickly and retain many settings as opposed to many of the products sold by audio/video firms that entered the market late. The picture quality for people pictures cannot be matched. I teach digital camera workshops and I have grown tired of cameras designed by non-photographers that result in non-intuitive sets of commands. The A1100 fits into the Canon family at a reasonable price and a more than reasonable design level. I bought the green camera to distinguish it easily from my other Canons.
It takes great macro pictures and the scenes option are wonderful for the beginner.

Right out of the box, before I read the manual, started taking pictures. Set to the Auto setting and away I clicked.

Camera is fine for average user. Simplicity plus quality pictures makes for a very good value. Battery life not great unless lithium rechargeable battery's are used which can be a real nuisance when traveling.

The AA battery's are awsome. I forgot to charge the batt before we left and I used it to record alot. It lasted a long time longer then any camera I have ever used. Then when it did start to go low. I just went to the gas station across the steet and with in 5 min I was shooting again. I used it at my Sons Birthday party at a indoor swimming pool. The low lighting of the pool area was a challange for this camera. Easy to use.. Start up is fast. I was warned about the memory card I purchased so the pics take forever to save. But a faster memory card will take care of that. The only real downfall is the memory card bay is with the batt. So in order to get the memory card out, you have to open the batt door compartment. Its not a big deal but my old Kodak has a little rubber door for the memory card very nice for just taking the card out to put a pic on my comp you just took to update your FB. Other then that it is a good camera.. My Grandmother just purchased a $400 sony 12MP. She was asking all of us how to change this or that (even switch it to video mode). Mine was 10 easier to use(just turn the dial to the icon that looks like a movie camera).She had to us use my hotel room to charge her batt. While I was up and running again in 5 min because I can use AA bat. Hers is Black and Bulky. Mine is compact, and a stylish green/ silver. I got alot of complements just on the looks of this camera. So far it has been a very good camera. For the price I am suprized at the whole package. 1/4 of the price of my Grandmothers, for more camera. She even said she wished she would have talked to me before she bought that one. She is thinking about taking it back to order this one. She couldnt beleive the package deal I got with the Batt/charger (it comes with a 12v plug in for the car too.) Plus in the kit is a nice Canon case, SD memory card, and a cleaning kit. I could have bought the Camera for $5 less at [...], but would have missed out on the sweet package. [...] This is a great company. ABES ROCKS.

I had a Cannon A75 that I loved. I had it for about 3 years and then the LCD Screen stopped working. Cannon did fix it but it only last about 2-3 months. My husband then bought me a Casio Exlim and it was horrible. It took good outside pictures but inside no matter the setting were horrible. I finally went back to Cannon and no one can compare to them in my book. This camera takes great shots outside and inside, especially theaters, gyms, etc.

Only CD with user instructions was included with camera, so I had to order a written manual from Bonus Manuals for All. I don't want to go online every time I need to look something up!
