Haven't tried manual settings yet, but auto mode takes great shots.
Buttons and controls easy to use with big hands.
Nice size not to small or large.
Good wide angle and decent telephoto but could be better.
Software for Mac did not work but iPhoto did.
All around nice camera and seems well made.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

Basically this thing packs the image quality and capabilities of an SLR without the bulk and interchangeable lenses. Its one set back is that it doesn't operate great in low light or with longer shutter speeds, but few point and shoots do and I've been able enough to deal with the noise in post. I was gonna wait for the G11 but according to the latest news it's gonna be the same chip with less mega pixels (to reduce noise) and have a stupid flip out screen. No thanks. Anyway if you're looking for a good quality point and shoot that you can make legit work with, this is it.

Good camera for the photographer that wants something better than a basic point/shoot, but does not want to "lug around" a DSLR. Features are numerous and easy to access. A bit too more lag time than an dslr, but within acceptable limits. A great camera to stuff in a pocket.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

Recently Canon recalled certain G10s because they infrequently displayed a horizontal line on the photo. So today I sent my beloved G10 back to the factory for repair. I miss it already. Over the span of several years I have purchased almost all of the Canon DSLRs but the G10 is fun and well built. It feels like an metal camera that I had over 40 years ago. My only complaint, that I hope Canon would listen to, is that I would like to have the same camera with a larger sensor and lessen the lag time. I have found that above ISO 80 I am not satisfied with the noise so I keep it on that setting. I tend to make large prints (16x20 and larger). The 80 ISO is fine if I use a flash but otherwise I use it as an outdoor camera. I do enjoy always having a camera that I can shoot in raw and process in photoshop. I recomend this to anyone with a good interest in phtography. For most casual photographers they will not outgrow this camera for quite some time until they are ready to step up to a DSLR. I hope they fix it soon.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

Nice for a travel sized camera with most of the bells and wistles needed for decent pictures without having to lugout the heavy equipment. Nice for travel. Only complaint is the noise on above 400 and indoors. Still new with this camera - might have a trick to bypass lighting problems.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

This shooter produces images of near DSLR quality (so long as you keep ISO at 400 or below) for prints up to 8 * 10". Controls are wonderful: clear, easy-to-operate dial for sensitivity, aperture, shutter speed. Optics are very good though, of course, the lens could be a bit faster. Solidly-built and very compact for its functionality. Consumer Reports rightly ranks it # 1. A great buy.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

Compared to my Canon 5D the camera lacks much. But the camera is not intended to do the quality of a DSLR. It is light, small (not tiny), and easy to carry. The controls are numerous but quick and easy to access, better than my 5D. The only significant problem so far seems to be the tendency to blow out the highlights. But overall, it's a very fine point & shoot for hiking, biking, and to carry around with you. I would recommend it to any advanced amature who would appreciate the advanced controls offered in this camera; or, a Semi or pro photographer who needs a mobile camera to carry when the "big" one is too heavy.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

Great for nature and family photos. Macro is superb. I shoot mostly in RAW format so lag between shots is a problem even with a fast card. There are so many options that I would NOT recommend it for beginners. I have been shooting constantly for three weeks and have not been through all of the shooting modes. Money was well spent. I also ordered the 58MM lens adapter which is a must have item.

I want something more than just a "point & shoot", but don't want to carry a heavy dSLR around. I sometime want to manual set the camera for special shots, and the Canon G10 gives me all that. I got the camera for about 2 weeks now and I don't have any problem with it so far. I hope it stays this way.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

I received this camera for my birthday (from the best sister in the world - if you're reading this, thank you again). I've only been using it for about 2 weeks but I'm already in love. I travel as much as possible and photograph everything from nature to people and landscapes to still life. I have high hopes for the G10. This is a serious upgrade from my 5 year old point and shoot. The image quality is superb, the wide angle lens is great for artistic/landscape shots, the image stabilization function works well, and the camera feels sturdy (although I wish it was weather-proof like my previous Olympus Stylus series point and shoot). The camera has an optical viewer which is handy for desperate times of low battery and an optical zoom range of 5x! The only real downsides are that the camera is a bit bulky, the lag time between flash shots are a bit long and the zoom knob could also be bigger.Indoor shots without flash are good as long as you minimize shake. I've explored a few of the special scene/filters and the color accent function is interesting. Another plus is that Canon manufactures an attachable tele converter lens to increase the G10's zoom range by 1.4x. The camera is easy to use/set up and the functions are intuitive (for an intermediate digital photographer) - I haven't even cracked open the manual yet. Overall, I highly recommend this camera if you're looking for something better than a simple point and shoot but not as advanced as a dSLR.

This is my everyday, every way and all the time--never leave home without it--camera. Even when I am dedicated to using the Canon 5D Mark II or 1st edition 5D for a particular object, subject or exhibition use. I think of it as an extension of my vision/version of the world, my inner eye, and as such is exceptionally facile. My only disappointment is its slow processing time with large files; but of that I can never have enough.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

This P&S is the best. I needed a small camera to compliment my 40D and this one fit the bill perfectly. It is not great above IS0200 but takes great pics in good lighting situations. The ability to shoot in RAW is a must for me and was one of the major deciding factors in purchasing this camera. I am not disapointed. However if you are wanting to get a really good camera and compact is not a must for you the Rebel line of cameras is just $100 or so more and well worth it.

I wanted the perfect camera for those times a DSLR wouldn't be convenient and I have found it! Excellent features in a stand alone camera. The wide angle is wide enough. Easy to change +/- stops by using a wheel on the top of the camera. I have a 20D that I'm happy with but have not used since I bought the G10. I bought it mainly for backpacking and family outings and it has surpassed my expectations. I highly recommend this camera.

All the benefits of a "pocket" camera (though you need a big pocket for this one) with full features to shoot in "pro" mode. I'm still wading through the manual and discovering useful features. I bought this primarily for my wife and she is greatly enjoying the fabulous LCD screen and the sleek, easy-to-carry style. I think it would be better if they hadn't crammed in so much technology that 90% of users won't use. Simplicity is possible even with a camera that allows advanced features. A little more attention to the viewfinder would also be desirable in the next edition.

Bought this as a backup for my 5D. Great camera to carry around and convenient to take on vacation. Has many same/similar controls and features as Canon DSLR's. LCD is bright, has high resolution, and is easy to read even in daylight. Picture quality, resolution, color, contrast in daylight and well-lit night situations is superb. Low-light no-flash shots are no match for a good DSLR, but adjustable flash exposure works well at night. Flexible controls and settings let anyone from beginners to pros take great photos. Would highly recommend this to any photo enthusiast, serious amateur, or pro.

I have used the Canon G10 now for the last 3 weeks on vacation. The picture quality, lens, controls, LCD screen, overall quality and control are excellent. This camera is for the Enthusiast or semi pro who does not want to carry a 35mm size camera but wants top quality and and manual and automatic control.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

This camera can turn even the novice into a pro. Chocked full of user friendly features that allow the photographer to custom taylor their needs. Super Sharp 3" LCD display. RAW file format along with JPEG simultaneously. Super crisp images, that can be put to super size prints without losing essential definition (14.7 MP to the rescue).

The only drawback to the package is the mode switch is located on top of the ISO dial which can lead to accidental change in ISO when changing the mode dial.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

I own a Canon 30D and 40D. Unlike most Point-&-Shoot (P&S) cameras feel pretty light and flimsy. The G10 feels very solidly construction. One feature I discovered, was the Face Detection Timer. You basically frame and focus the shot, fully depress the shutter release, and then you get a messaging telling you to go get in front of the camera and face it. Within 2 seconds or so the picture will take. You can also configure it to take multiple shots at one after another. This takes care of people like my wife that always seem to close there eyes.
Being that it's my Father-in-laws camera I didn't get to take a lot of shots with it, but what I did. I was very impressed. Pretty Quick Shooting, very shape picture, nice balanced flash, all pluses so far!

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

Not on par with an SLR, but an excellent point and shoot. A little bulky at first, but I soon got used to it. The images came out bright and clear. Great choice for somebody not willing to lug around a lot of camera gear. The battery life was good and the stabilizer works great. Focusing is fast and accurate even in low light. And I just love the big clear LCD.

Comments about Canon Powershot G10 Digital Camera:

The Canon G10 is simply the best, serious, back-up P&S camera there is - When Adobe releases a RAW compatable program, this camera will be capable of amazing, large images if you do the work. You might leave your DSLR at home more than you think.
