My old PowerShot A520 recently bit the dust, and, although I knew I wanted another Canon, I had no idea where to start. Researched the SD1200 and felt confident it was what I needed; now that I have it in my hand, I'm even more impressed. I got the camera right before a vacation, and tested all of the auto and program settings - with little or no disappointment. On the 10 day vacation, I took about 435 photos - I never wanted to stop.
I love Canon for it's user-friendliness and intuitive menus and functions - the SD1200 is no different. It's small - but I have small hands, so it worked out (had to keep reminding my dad to not cover the flash with his finger when he had the camera).
Canon really improved the flash over the old PowerShots - the A520's flash was WAY too strong, and would wash out any subject. On the SD1200, it's much more tempered and "safe" for use as fill-in or full flash.
I was a little disappointed that there was no true manual setting (even the manual shutter speed setting is hidden within the program modes), but I found myself warming up to the camera's auto mode - something I've never done with another camera. I found the auto mode to be fairly trustworthy, and the program modes did a good job of filling in at times when I couldn't use the auto mode.
I can't recommend this camera highly enough - I am so pleased with my purchase.

I have bought several canon powershots and just when I think it can't be improved - it has been upgraded and actually more incredible! Our family members all have their own and take it with them everywhere - they take it to parties, the beach, and travel everywhere with it. It is lightweight, easy to use, can be thrown in your purse and it is not particularly fragile. It takes great pictures and the buttons are all where you would expect them to be for ease of use. It's a wonderful camera and I wouldn't be without it!!!

I got this camera mainly for the view finder since the LED screen washes out in the sun on my old one. The view finder works in conjunction with the optical zoom lens. Another big plus for me is the macro photography, I did some tests with some stamps and currency, and am pleased with the results using available light.
The only thing I would add would be a set of brackets or a box in the center of the view finder so you can center up when you are at maximum digital zoom to make centering you image easier.
I don't leave home without it.

I used this extensively for the first time in a number of situations and found that this camera performs well. I was pleased with its ease of use and the results. It compared well to a far more expensive Canon Powershot that I own. This is a good value for the money and is so compact

Using the product during my numerous trips, I am satisfied with the quality of pictures. Easy to use controls and lightweight camera are the most favorite features. The only con is the some gap time between the photographs. However, for its price this camera is a decent value.

I purchased this camera (after reading the reviews in "Consumer Reports Magazine") for my wife. She's a typical point&shoot full AUTO photographer (and of course, there's nothing wrong with that). This camera is an excellent choice for point&shooters! Picture quality is amazing, ease of use is fantastic. My wife had no problem converting from her 35mm to this digital LCD (her very first digital camera).
I set the camera up with a Lexar Professional 4GB x133 SDHC memory card, a ZAGG InvisibleShield LCD protector, and a Case Logic hard shell camera case.
NOTE: This camera does not come with the standard low capacity memory card that accompanied all my other Canon digitals, so you better order one at the same time you order the camera...but not necessarily from the same place...shop around for good quality and price.

I am a Senior Citizen and was reluctant to give up my 35 mm. I recently purchased the Cannon PowerShot SD1200IS and found it easy to use and love it. So much that I purchased two additional camers to give to my grandchildren. I love the compact size. I am still in the learning stage,however am confident that the camera will suit all of my future needs. Thank you.

I am not a pro photographer, but I found the comments of those who saw the pictures I took while on vacation in France to be very positive. I found the camera easy to use, the screen very bright, and I was able to figure out most of the functions on my own. i would hoghly recommend this camera .

I love the Canon powershot. It is easy to use for someone who was questioning on why go digital.
Easy to travel with, easy to change from pictures to movie to review photos and of course easy to clean - a major plus!
I use this to take pictures of friends, family, events and other times that I want to be rememorable.
