Comments about Canon Powershot SD880IS Gold Digital Camera:

This replaces my SD700IS, which fell and broke. They are both 4x optical zoom, and this new one has 10 megapixels—more than is really necessary but that's fine. (No point complaining about too many megapixels.) The major flaw—and it's a huge—of the SD880IS is its design. The on/off button is in a strange place—you can't actually *see* it, other things are in the way of it, and it's hard to push. If something is happening quickly and you need to turn your camera on and start shooting, there's a good chance you'll miss it—you simply can't do it in a smooth motion. You have to turn the camera in an odd way to turn it on and in the process watch out for the shutter release. It's hard to explain, but it's all very awkward and frustrating.

Canon has been making these pocket cameras for a long time; this is my fourth one since 2002. All of them have been just right. With this model, Canon is disimproving its products—neat trick, Canon!

The control buttons on the *back* of the camera are hard to push as well and they blend in with the rest of the back in terms of color and in terms of the way they're made. They're not really buttons, just slightly convex areas jammed together and hard to tell apart. I can't imagine how Canon messed up this much.

I can't overstate how much the design is an impediment to really using and enjoying the camera. This camera is not a terrible camera in terms of its components, I guess, but it might as well be. It is just no fun to use. That new-camera excitement? It's the first time in my life that I've failed to feel it. I am a Canon fan; it's always been my first choice. But I really regret buying this camera.

Comments about Canon Powershot SD880IS Gold Digital Camera:

I was reviewing digital cameras for a week before I purchased this camera. Am I glad I did. The LCD view is fantastic. You don't have to look through a tiny view finder. The quality of the photos is amazing; clear, crisp, with lots of details. The image stabilization is incredible. I won't ever go back to our Kodak Easy Share CX7430. This camera was well worth the investment.

Comments about Canon Powershot SD880IS Gold Digital Camera:

I feel the same way about Canon Powershots as I do about Macs - its hard to wrong, the product is good and sometimes you pay a little more for quality. As a casual photographer whose primary camera use is taking pics of day trips, outings with friends, etc. I cannot review the manual, or other complicated settings of the camera. What I can tell you is that it is lightweight, easy to use, takes excellent pictures and refreshes between snaps quickly (important for capturing sporting events or other other live-action shots). The video seems to be okay as well for a small point and shoot camera. Downsides - there are a ton of settings that I haven't even begun to explore, there is no viewfinder (which for me isn't a deal breaker, but for some users i know is a concern). i feel i have just begun to explore the many features of this camera and will be able to do a lot with it going forward.

Excellent, easy to use camera.

Best Uses:

Bottom Line:

Comments about Canon Powershot SD880IS Gold Digital Camera:

I purchased this camera as a compact travel camera, that I can use underwater, with a housing. I have owned other "underwater" cameras and this one has been the easiest to use, and provided the highest quality pictures, with no need for an additional flash attachment. The 10mp pictures are very high quality and clear. Controls are easy to use and intuitive.

Comments about Canon Powershot SD880IS Gold Digital Camera:

First off. I LOVE THIS CAMERA!
I bought it to replace my SD-1000 which I loved and took over 6000 pictures with in just over a year.
When it was time to upgrade (mainly because a friend dropped my SD-1000 and the flash never worked again) I researched point and shoots (even non Canon models) for over a month online and offline.
I finally decided, I loved the Canon line and was so happy to get a great deal on the SD-880-IS at Abe's.
I can't say ANYTHING bad about this camera. The wide angle lens, 4X Zoom, amazing picture quality, and solid construction are all pluses in my book!
One thing I really love is the ability to set a long exposure time (up to 16 seconds) In one week, I have taken some amazing pro-quality shots with open exposures that have blown away my professional photographer friends away!
Don't shop around. Just buy this camera and thank yourself later!!!

Comments about Canon Powershot SD880IS Gold Digital Camera:

I love to take photographs with different cameras. I have used 790IS, 1100IS, 880IS, 590AS in Canon. Out of all I love this 880IS. It takes clear pictures in all conditions. Its really fast than other canon's I mentioned above. The battery life is very good. You should use fast SDHC cards with atleast 15MB/s speed. Other cheap SD cards will slow down your camera's performance. The 4X Zoom is Cool.

You can print the photos directly from your camera. You can connect the camera to TV and use that as viewer. You can connect the camera to the power cable (need to buy separately). Frankly, I never used these features. It comes ImageBrowser, PhotoStitch softwares etc. These softwares are OK, considering that you get the for free ;)

For the price I paid, this camera has enough features.

The Cons: The power on/off button is dificlt to operate. You need to press harder to switch on.

One suggestion is that, Like Panasonic Lumix 150 FX, Cannon should come up with camera's to record the images in RAW format. RAW format are no more only to SLRs. :(

I'm a little behind the times so this is my first digital camera. I am happy to discover it is simple to use, easy to follow directions to set up and download photos. Love the size and construction. Have not used all the bells and whistles (and may never!). One problem so far: it doesn't have a view finder so outdoors in sunlight you have to approximate the photo because can't see what's on LCD viewer. Picture quality is very good.

Look, Drop all the technocrat nonsense for the sake of your time.
Q: Do you want a camera that takes REALLY good photos?
Q: Should it be wonderfully simple and yet have some manual controls (For when you get your Photo-Pro groove on)?
Q: I am not sure a camera can be "sexy" but if it could would you want that?

Ok! I am still not sure what "sexy" means on a camera, but whatever. If you answered 'yes' this is the camera for you. I am for real folks. It's photo quality is superb and like I said it's easy. Almost too easy. :-)

Seriously the wide angle is a huge selling feature for us. Aside from many of the other great points of this camera that single feature and the new processor in the SD880 sold us! The zoom is also very respectable. Oh and it's really small.

But the one bummer (AND ITS NO FAULT OF THE CAMERA) is that SDHC cards require a separate adapter. So be aware of that. But buy this camera. BTW it looks much nicer in gold!

The wife loves it though and I love that she's happy!

Great screen. The face recognition software used for auto-focus appears to work brilliantly. Overall size and weight of the camera isn't that much more than my several-year-old Canon SD300 and yet everything is significantly upgraded. Too bad the battery isn't the same, but that would have been a miracle.
