Bought couple of weeks ago. So far so good. You have all the features you need. Easy to use in auto mode. But have to remember too many functions to use advance features. But that's the case with any advanced camera. For thre easy going people, the auto mode still does a great job. The major pros are, high zoom, lcd screen which can be twisted 270 degrees of angle, ability to shoot still images while recording video, zooming while taking video. One person can cover both video and photos of an event. Easy play back with remote and view images in powerpoint right on your HD TV. Remember you need to have a high performance SDHC card to experience the fast shutter speed.
This camera has also some cons. The ones I didn't like is the flash would not raise automatically though it does tell you to raise the flash in poor light. Other drawback is that the shutter sound is recorded in the video with a pause of image when still pictures are taken simultaneously. The aspect ratio changes to 16:9 for still images after taking video. So if you forget to change the ratio back to 4:3, the picture will be wide and have to edited to fit photo frames.
I tried to cover all the aspects I noticed from my experience with this camera so far. I hope this will be helpful for the future shoppers to make up their mind whether to buy it or not.

Enjoying wildlife close-ups with the SX1. Amazing closeups! Lots of bells and whistles if your into that sort of thing like I am. Love experimenting with it. Poor quality in ISO 800 and up. Great video capability. Love the SUPER MACRO for flowers and such. Excellent face recognition and red eye reduction. Loving the camera. Don't expect DSLR quality but it's far above point and shoot.

I love this camera, but it is not perfect. It is the closest thing to having a pro DSLR with a 500mm telephoto without the bulk and weight. The image quality, color, focus are great. The HD video (1920x1080) is wonderful, however it is quicktime and few players can handle QT FULL HD well. A bug that appears to exist in ALL SX1 IS cameras as far as I can tell is one called "Lens Error, Restart Camera". This happens at camera startup. This has occurred on my camera from the day I got it. It is intermittent, but sometimes it can be very annoying causing you to miss a shot because you cannot get the camera on in time. A search of the internet suggest many others have reported it.

If you don't wan't to carry a large SLR with extra lenses, this is for you.
A little pricey if money is an issue.

I've been looking for just the right camera for me and found my perfect match. I love taking pics of my family & the places we go. This camera does an amazing job capturing all of our great memories. It has great video capability & with one simple plug you can watch your video & pics on your tv in full hd. I am very pleased with my purchase and would highly recomend the Powershot SX1 IS.

As expressed in the ratings the only cons that I see in this camera its weight (a bit heavy) and the fact that it's run by AA batteries, something that I cannot really understand why….
Other than this, is an excellent camera and the Full HD feature is superb and worth spending an extra 150 U$s instead of buying any of the competitors.
