Great camera. High megapixel for a good price. Easy to set up. Did not even need to look at the manual for initial set. My all around camera.

Comments about NIKON Coolpix S710 Digital Camera - Black:

I use this product to take pictures and also video of family functions. The picture quality is great. The only complaint I have about it is that when you are taking video, it doesn't zoom in close enough to capture the moment. But it is a camera, so buying a video camcorder is what I did. If I may recommend the JVC Everio S GZ-MS120B, Dual Flash SD Memory Camcorder (Onyx Black). I would reccomend the Nikon S710 to anyone! It's a great buy with great quality! It does surprisingly more than I read or expected. There are so many other functions that are not listed on the websites reviews.

Comments about NIKON Coolpix S710 Digital Camera - Black:

This is very close to the ideal ultra compact. Rather than rehash the specs, what might not be so obvious among its advantages are:
A) Very sharp images at all f-stops and zooms (as evidenced by my testing with an Air Force 1951 bar chart yielding consistent 4/4 and 4/5 element separation in grouping 4. This is right up there with my Nikon D200!
B) Manual controls for aperture and shutter speed, and for fully manual. This advantage cannot be overstated; good luck finding a comparable camera with these features along with all its other goodies at this price.
C) An auto scene function that seems to work well. That is - on this setting, the camera discerns well whether it's trying to take a macro, a landscape, a portrait, etc.
D) Vibration reduction works well. Not astounding, but gets the job done.
E) High speed continuous mode blazes, but at only 3MP.
F) Auto mode approached foolproof for all situations thus far encountered.

On the neutral side - This model has been dissed soundly for slow start up and response. I don't agree; it's right in there with its competitors AS LONG AS YOU USE A CLASS 6 SPEED SD CARD.

Negatives:
A) Here you have an ultra compact saddled with a medium sized battery charger and full cord – that’s ridiculous, Nikon! The ultra compact user wants a compact direct plug-in charger.
B) Too many intermediate functions are buried in the menus. However, were I a Nikon engineer, don't know that I could’ve done much better with such a small body. Guess I'm spoiled by my D200.
C) We're missing an important choice in resolution. We have 14MP-fine, but the next steps down are 14MP-normal and then 8MP-normal. This camera sorely lacks 8MP-fine (or equivalent).
D) The LCD display is pretty grainy for focus mode. It's fine in review mode. No big deal.

Summary:
This is a terrific package for a casual shooter who wants to learn more about programming choices and for an enthusiast who wants high quality and versatility in a truly pocket sized package.
I would recommend without reservation except for the few caveats above.

Comments about NIKON Coolpix S710 Digital Camera - Black:

Have been a fan of the Sony fan compact digitals, afterall, even James Bond and his girlfriend used one in Casion Royale, sailing into Venice. But after using a Nikon D300, I wanted to give compact Nikon a try. Lets just say, for 1/7th the price, this baby delivers. I love the way it fits very nicely in a leather case sold at radio shack on my belt like a cellphone. Has all the essential features to pull off stunning photos in just about every situation. (love the scene modes). Lens, battery life, ISO of 3200, you can't beat it for price and size. Is a mini-me D300.

Comments about NIKON Coolpix S710 Digital Camera - Black:

I traded up from a Nikon S550 which was a good camera but this one is better. 15 Megapixals are very clear and I use them for medical presentations.
