I have a Nikon DSLR, but it is simply too large for many instances. This point and shoot provides everything I need so far (I'm still absorbing all its capabilities). It's compactness and rapid response are why I ordered it and those wants have been fulfilled.

The Coolpix S640's performance has greatly improved from the older models in terms of speed. At 12.2 megapixels, image quality is superb. Battery life is decent.
The camera has very little exceptional settings like Color Accent and Color Swap. The standard settings that can be confusing. I am not impressed with the night settings. The high ISO feature is poor in comparison to Canon's Powershot SD960. It's hard to avoid flash for night pictures. I was also slightly disappointed in the old interface. It's simple, but almost too simple.
The only advice I will give is to buy a SDHC memory card. Don't skimp on this because the maximum and potential camera's speed is partially dependent on it.
