I love my brand new camera. Super easy, too many features for me (casual photographer) but everything I need (sport for my kids, portraits) and the automatic setup to be sure to get a bright nice picture. Only cons, the lcd monitor that does not flip. just forgot to mention the the lens quality (LENZ). [...]

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

It weighs less than a pound and packs a great accurate lens, and intuitive controls and software. It will automate photography as much as you want or need, or it will allow you as much manual override and tweaking as you wish. Its low light quality is significantly better than my other point and shoot, a Canon SD-800IS. I am thoroughly pleased with the camera and buying it from Abe's.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

All functions work as advertised. Good general picture quality. Amazing zoom! 18x optical zoom at 10MP. 25X extended optical zoom at 5-9MP (depending on shooting mode). 56X optical + extended optical + digital zoom at 5-9MP. Picture quality on digital zoom is reduced (but not on extended zoom). Still, the lens will get you that far away shot that many cameras won't reach and the quality is acceptable for a smaller print.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I did a lot of research on these "ultra zoom" cameras, and I came to the conclusion to buy this one. I am not disappointed one bit, however I did not give this a full 5 stars because I haven't played with it much. So I can't really give a full review, but I will tell you this...the "auto" option is wonderful! So user friendly, I also used it to take 4th of July fireworks shots, and they came out amazing!! I am very pleased so far!

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

[...] I have had this Panasonic DMC-FZ28K camera about 2 weeks and have enjoyed the results - I even have a friend who wants one now and they are getting hard to find. I was looking at the Nikon P-90 and not really liking the photos that came out of their auto mode; You get better photos out of the manual controls. I needed a camera that does both auto and manual really well and the FZ28 camera does the job. I've taken photos of Osprey in a high nest, a Thrasher bird and ducks and mushrooms (macro) - turned out great. Had to practice with it tho as I am not familiar with the settings. Took pictures on 4th of July at night on the beach with family and the flash did a good job and non-flash sparkler pics were great! The burst mode is helpful in these conditions. The HD movie recording works very well and is better than the 5 year old video camera we have. Pan slowly tho as it can blur if you go too fast. I am still learning all the features as there is a learning curve, but one that is worth the effort. The price is great! Panasonic does a good job with their cameras this year- I also purchased the Panasonic DMC-ZS1 as a good purse camera - 12 X optical zoom is great for the price - no others have this in such a compact little camera. Just a side comment on the FZ28 - if you have had SLR cameras - the weight difference will make you think. It is a very light camera for the quality of pictures that you would find in a heavy SLR - so don't let the weight factor in on your decision- its sturdy and works really well! I am enjoying the FZ28 tremendously!

This camera is great for us. My wife can set it to "Intelligent Auto" and get great shots and I can set up every detail and use it much like my SLR. Got really good photos of lightning and fireworks which are quite difficult. The zoom level and resolution give the ability to get excellent distance close ups. Also feel that it is a very good value for the price.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I am just a mom, taking pictures of my kids in all kinds of settings: outdoors, indoors, at events, at play. I have not figured out all of the settings on this camera yet, but there is a setting for "dummies", where it makes all the adjustments for you. I love the picture quality most of all. The photos are coming out gorgeous. I also like that the "lag time" between the time you press the shutter button and the time it takes the picture is almost nothing, as well as the lag between shots. My only complaint is that the flash does not pop open automatically (as far as I can tell), so if you do not remember to open it, your picture will be dark. My only other complaint about this listing is that the memory card listed in the margin was not the one that went with this camera. It was much more expensive (high speed card).

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

We have just returned from a family vacation in the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone National Park and my new Panasonic DMC-FZ28K went with us. I am a casual photographer who wanted a camera that would allow me some flexibility to adjust settings on my own. This camera was perfect. My husband, daughter and myself used this camera with ease. It took, beautiful, crisp, clear photos of some of the most magnificent scenery in the world. I am so happy with its performance. It was easy to carry but not too small. The battery life was excellent as well. I did miss photos of an eagle b/c we were in a moving car and the eagle was moving as fast as we were but that's hardly the camera's fault. I have had it out of auto and played around with the portraiture setting a bit and will continue to experiment with it. That Lumix lens is terrific. The camera has been great fun and I am very satisfied with it.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I've never owned a digital camera before, but I've used quite a few point and shoots. I needed a camera that gave better quality pictures than a normal point and shoot but I didn't want to pay the price for a DSLR. This camera is exactly what I was looking for. It takes outstanding pictures and feels great to hold. The only cons are that there are quite a few options and a lot of buttons that are taking some time to learn to use smoothly. With some time, everything will become second nature.

I have not found anything negative regarding this camera. It is an upgrade from my old DMC-FZ8K. The new features on this camera are fantastic. Telephoto range is excellent for a "point & shoot" camera. The auto focus, face recognition, and instant preview viewing are among the best in the business. The software which allows instant download and also processing of the .RAW format pictures is supurb. Print quality is AMAZING!!! I can't wait for the next upgrade.

It's very light weight and compact. The zoom power is magnificent and can be hand-held easily at full power. The LCD is big and bright, though is hard to keep clean. Every time I power up the lens cap is popped off of the front. In order to change filters I have to have the power on and the lens racked out a bit. The polarozer is very stiff and difficult to slide. WD-40?

I purchased this camera in anticipation of a European vacation and it certainly did not disappoint. My friend who accompanied me on the trip just purchased the exact same package because he saw how easy and fun it was to use- the picture quality was unbeatable. It was easy to learn to use and it is small. The camera is about as good as it gets before you have to commit to a professional level piece of hardware.

I am so pleased with this camera so far- the stellar reviews that I researched before my purchase were certainly accurate. If it was a stock, I'd invest in it with leverage! :-)

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

Portraits are smooth with great skin tone and clarity. Landscapes are crisp and sharp. The only item Panasonic did not include is in the lens conversion menu. While they have a conversion for telephoto and macro they do not have one for wide angle so a wide angle add on lens has enough vignetting to make it useless. Otherwise the camera is pretty darn perfect for the quality, controls and price.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

The camera is doing everything I hoped it would.
This is not my first camera - and I am using conversion lenses purchased for the others with it - and with better results than on those others.

The fact that it also shoots HD video (720p) is a big plus.

Shooting in RAW allows me to edit in 48 bit color, which even after translating back to 24 bit shows more subtlety and detail.

I shoot a lot of wildlife photos, and nature - and this camera is perfect for that. With my conversion lenses, I carry a kit that gets me up to near 2000mm (35mm equivalent) and the IS makes it hand holdable at better than 1000mm. (I usually do use a tripod...) The whole kit weighs in at less than 10 Lbs. - which is a lot lighter than carrying the equivalent focal lengths with a full frame DSLR would be. It is also MUCH faster to set up, and easier to point at the subject.

I really like this camera's results. The pictures it produces are great! The clarity and value is outstanding. I use it to record outdoor scenic events from my fishing trips around the Northeast, around home, and for general family events. I'm still learing how to use it effectively, but even with using only the basic functions the results are great. My only concern is it seems maybe a little "less robust" than my last digital camera (a Nikon Coopix). Like if I accidently dropped it, or man-handled one of the port access doors, it might break. But with proper handling care of a semi-delicate instrument it should be fine.

I've been using it for about a month. Still trying to figure out various settings so I can use it optimally. It has a LOT of great features. The AI setting is useful most of the time. Starts out wide-angle and can zoom way out giving me plenty of range for deciding on the framing of the picture. All that and very light too. I really like it.

I researched for many months before buying. I wanted the power of a DSLR but the price & convenience of a compact. The lens is just unbeatable on this camera (quality of image as well as range of zoom) and all of the most critical review sites were unanimous in giving the camera top reviews and finding only nit-picky things to complain about. You really only need a DSLR if you do one of three things: 1)shoot mostly in low light, 2) make poster sized prints, 3)produce your images from extreme cropping. Otherwise buy this instead!

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I have only been using this camera for about 2 weeks and am stil learning. It is a good camera for the price. Has the necessary manual control and can lots of "auto" type modes when you want to let the camera do the thinking. Pics are a little soft at full size and a little noisy in low light. The zoom is great and the camera is lightweight. For the price I would not hesitate to buy one again.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

This is a great camera. Very fast and great quality pictures. Manual controls - everything you can find on the dslr camera is on this camera as well. If you're not that good with manual controls it has great auto mode one of the best on the market. Just point and shoot. It's a great camera to learn user friendly. Battery life is also good about 400+ pictures. Pictures are so clean and clear even gets better if you use manual settings. Picture quality is compared to DSLR I'm very impressed. The only con is that it gets noisy on high ISO (over 800) but that's normal for all cameras. Overall Very Good Camera Great ! ! ! Love it and would buy it again. (make sure you get a fast memory card) recommend OCZ Gold X150 very fast and least expensive.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

The best thing I found is that I don't always have to look for the manual to figure out a function or feature. It is very user friendly and intuitive.

The overall relatively compact size is great and makes it easier to take along casually.
The surprise I found was that iA was NOT always the best choice for a particular shot, at times an SCN selection was better and other times "P" was better. Experimentation with both gave me confidence for a variety of situations. I even was pleased with the video I captured, that not a great capture it still allowed the sound and flow to be captured to keep the memory alive. Being able to add an audio comment to each picture was another nice surprise to its capabilities! If there was a 4 1/2 star rating that would be perfect from my perspective. I don't really believe there is a 5 star out there.

This camera works well for just about any situation. If you just want to pick it up and snap a few photos - no problem. If you want to tweak the controls then there is plenty of them available. Not sure how well it works with taking pictures during a sporting event, but sometimes it does take a bit of time to focus which I imagine would make taking shots at a basketball game kind of difficult. All in all though, I'm very satisfied.

Overall I like this camera...Does need a rubber eye cup on EVF but a lot of people now a days use only the LCD...Picture quality is great for what I use them for...I make my own Photos and frame them...Up to 8 1/2 x 11...BTW, for those who want to use to display on your computer screen...You'll love it...Always used a SLR camera...Therefore, I am still learning all the operations of this camera but like what I have used so far...If you like point and shoot and would like to move up to good camera that does more without the hassle...this is the camera...and if you want to do more...read the directions and go for it on manual...Best of both worlds...

I sold my Canon G10 to get this camera as I needed something with a superzoom. The photo quality is extraordinary, and considering it is a very light 18X zoom camera, everything that I want. Putting on a low cost UV filter means I don't need to worry about a lens cap. The quality of the photos is hard to believe. The battery lasts quite a long time.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I was stuck between this camera and the SX110 by Canon for the longest time. The appeal in these cameras was this: Manual features (so if I get to know my camera tech. a little bit, I might learn how to use them to their full potential), GREAT Auto-Shoot modes (for when I'm lazy), and a STURDY Camera. The FZ-28 came out on top with it's nearly double optical zoom at 18x , its sturdier looking and feeling body, and overall, its speed! The rapid shooting mode, and the flash recharge is excellent, and the HD Movie mode makes the camera worth the extra money. I purchased from Abes of MAine for the inexpensiveness, but I will PREWARN anyone from Canada: Watch out for Duties at the border. Nothing against Abes of Maine in general, but the guy I dealt with over the phone the first time told me that it wouldn't be more than $30, but it comes to $60. So watch the border costs too...As for the camera, I use it a lot! I would say that there are a lot of controls, and it would take the lesser-tech-savvy users a couple of weeks to get used to them (as I am extremely tech-savvy and it took me a few days). But where there are a lot of controls to get used to, there are even more useful settings for the user. i.e. Manual mode: Read an online forum and you can figure them out quickly and take better shots. I learned how to focus on something manually, when the automode tried focusing on the tree branches that were in front of my subject. The camera can't be beat. If this camera is in the class of camera that you are thinking about, then you have your pick: The FZ-28 for the win.[...]

Also use for shooting bird migrations and other animal life.

This is the best camera I've gotten so far, I have 4, from 5mp up to this 10mp. You have to read through the manual if you want to understand all that this camera will do. I haven't gotten through it all yet myself. However with just the functional knowledge I have gotten, this camera takes great pictures. The zoom function is fantastic and takes clear photos with full zoom.

Have taken zoom photos from top of Navajo Bridge in Northern Arizona of the rafters coming down the Colorado and the close-up and clarity is exceptional. My advice read the manual for a full understanding of this camera and you won't go wrong with this one if you aren't ready for the cost of a SLR yet.

Many years ago I took wildlife pictures with both Canon AE and AT slrs using a variety of lenses (including a 500mm mirror lens). About Five years ago I bought a Panasonic DMC-FZ20. With it I have taken far more and better pictures than I ever took with the Canons (and I love Canon cameras).
The Lumix FZ-28 is a generation or two better. While I can't comment on many of its features which I have yet to use, the superbly sharp Leica zoom lens and the excellent image stabilization make for some of the sharpest bird pictures that I have ever taken. In addition the full manual options make it extremely versatile. Combine that with a lighweight compact package and I have had no temptation to go back to an slr and a suitcase full of lenses. Although I wish it had a hot shoe for external flash versatility, I am delighted with this camera.

Took this camera to Cabo on vacation. It replaced my Canon Digital Elph. Couldn't be happier. Took the best photos I';ve ever taken on this trip, including hard-to-get right whale photos.
The camera feels insubstantial and is shockingly light if you're used to an SLR. But it did survive the trip with no damage.
I'm glad I didn't spend the extra for a DSLR. This camera is lighter, more portable, and has all the quality I hoped for.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I love everything about this camera. This is my third Lumix. I also bought in the past the Lumiz FZ1 and FZ7. Loved each one and gave them to my sons. Terrific quality of pictures - sharp, vivid, accurate. So easy to use. Incredible programs to match almost every conceivable situation. Light and Compact. The closest competitor in my mind is the Canon IXS 10 with 20X optical zoom and 10 MEG resolution. But that is much bigger, much heavier, and eats up batteries. This Lumix like the previous ones feature a small rechargeable square battery that is included with charger. It lasts 450 or more pictures easily and recharges in about 1 hour. After years of reliable use, I bought a generic replacement one for my FZ1 for only [$]. I just love this camera! It is absolutely the best in its price range and even beats many costing much more.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

Overall, a good choice for a super zoom point and shoot. Compares well to my older Canon S3IS. Best feature is RAW capture. Great idea and very few point and shoots have that. Worst is the RAW conversion software manual. No printed manual and the on-line one is difficult to print; and it is written in Japlish or Chinlish. Come-on! Panasonic is a big multinational. Surely someone writes English there.(Actually the software itself is not bad, once you decipher it) Also there is no "mini-manual" for the camera. The printed manual is fine (and in English!!), but its pretty big; hard to carry around. Nothing here required brain surgery to get right, but they didn't.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

This is a point and shoot camera that beleives itself to be an SLR. I've been looking for new camera that had an excellent zoom, a lot of user options, and high megapix, yet was still simple to operate. I spent a lot of time going to various web sites and reading reviews. The FX28K was the only camera I found with the capabilities I wanted that was consistantly rated high by it's users. And they were right! It comes with a load of preset options and manual settings for those who want to experiment and learn, which is one of the things I was looking for. But at the same time, the AI setting, along with the built in stablization, makes this the easiest and best point and shoot I've every had. In good light, it's easy to take 18X zoom photos by hand. I was really surprised at the photo quality when using the 72X digital zoom. Not great, but still a lot better than I would have expected. Another plus is that the viewfinder has a manual focus adjustment for those of us who's eyesight isn't what it use to be. No need for glasses when you use it.[...]

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I was nervous about getting this camera as my last one was a dud (sony) and I hadn't heard much about the Panasonic cameras. I love this one. The zoom is amazing and I can now get clear pictures of my active 2 year old whether it's day or night. The low light settings works very well. I haven't tried it on sports yet. The macro shots are rather impressive as well very clear details and crisp color. The camera itself is very light-weight. If you are taking pics at the full zoom then it is good to have a tripod or an extremely still hand. It's easy to use and the basic settings are simple to understand. Changing the MP to a lower setting will increase the zoom length.

Awesome camera, great photo and video quality. I have used Sony DSC H50 but no match with Panasonic.

A folding screen could have been a + point. But still, the features are great, controls are very easy to use and descriptive.
Advice: Use SDHC memory card with good data transfer rate. I am using Sandisk Ultra II 8GB SDHC MMC(15 MBps). This helped to reduce the time between 2 photo shoots to less than a second.

Canon Powershot Sx10 IS is a bit better in photo quality but pathetic in video quality.

I purchased this to replace my trusty FZ7 and so far I'm very happy with it. In low light situations it's much better than the FZ7, and the extra zoom comes in handy. The only feature I don't care for is that with a 46mm filter attached to the lens it bumps the lens cap if you forget to remove it and turn on the camera. That wasn't a problem on the FZ7.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I bought the FZ28 in order to have an "all-in-one" with a good range from wide (27mm) to telephoto. Camera works well in "IA" (intelligent auto)mode but can also be used with many manual adjustments to saturation, sharpening, contrast and noise reduction, as well as manual, aperature and shutter priority modes. Picture quality, inside, with just window light or overlight ights (no flash) is fine and outside pictures are sharp, with good color and resolution. I love the zoom. The "reach" is amazing. I wanted a camera that accepted filters, and this has filter threads for UV and polarizing filters. The viewfinder is very small, but the LCD screen is clear and large and can be adjusted for brightness and angle of view. All in all an excellent camera.

I am not a pro. But I read a ton of reviews of different "bridge" cameras before biting the bullet & buying this one & I was not disappointed. Very well-built, compact, easy to use right away for superior, impressive snapshots using just the intelligent auto feature but also not too hard to get into all the manual features. It's perfect for my purposes- easy great photos, but has the potential I wanted. Not fussy or complicated, or over-simplified & over-automated. The video is easy to use & really good(for a camera not primarily meant for video).

I will buy from them again!! The FZ28 is a wonderful, feature-packed, easy to use, lightweight camera. I am looking forward to years of fun with it

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I have used the camera for outdoor photography, portraits and close ups of small objects. Controls are logical and easy to adapt to (joystick is great); image stabilizer is excellent; photo quality (sharpness and color) are excellent. The LCD monitor is very good but I really like the "view finder". LCD's are hard to see in sun-light and as your near-vision declines even a 3" monitor can be hard to view. The "view finder" is very clear, contains all of the information that the LCD has and has a diopter adjustment for people with near vision problems. The Strobe/flash seems to be more potent than most.

On the down side; White Balance needs to be corrected more often than my other digital camera's (Olympus and Canon) and on close-ups in low light the camera occasionally needs to "hunt" to focus. Finally; the manual leaves much to be desired.

I'm using a 2 gig class6 memory card. It is very fast. I would suggest using the fastest card you can get.

I read the reviews on all of the cameras in this catagory but was drawn to this one by the "Elmar/Leica" Lens. Generally, this is an excellent camera and has met and/or exceeded my expectations.

This is a terrific camera and Abe's of Maine offered it at an excellent price. My selection (Panasonic FZ28) was made after months of rigorous investigation. Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I have been looking for a camera like this for a long time. I've had 40 cameras in the last 7 years. This has it all - and best of all, the price is fantastic for what you get. The double stabilization feature is the best for the 18x zoom. The lens is great - no vignetting or barrel distortion at either end.

The macera is light and small, with a nice size and resolution LCD. It has an EVF for those times when it's too sunny outside. The menu system is easy to use and the camera has fast response all around. It also comes with a lens hood for sunny days.

The fact that it does excellent low light for both pictures and video AND allows you to zoom in HD video is rare.

I can't say enough about this camera. Buy it. you won't be sorry.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I owned a Panasonic DMC-FZ3 that I loved, but it didn't survive a bath I accidentally gave it. I upgraded to the 5M, DMC-FZ5. In my enthusiasm for that camera, four friends of mine also bought one and none of us were disappointed. The one feature I started wanting was an optional manual focus for those rare times the auto-focus missed (such as photographing through a window). When I saw this DMC-FZ28 for [$]and all the features, I instantly wanted it. [...]...it was a no brainer. I first asked my friends who already owned an FZ5 if they wanted my camera for $130 and one snatched it right away. Another also wanted it, but I only had one to sell.Anyway, this is a great step forward from the FZ5. Twice the mega pixels and 50% stronger optical zoom, plus optional manual focus. All of the great features of my FZ5 and many improvements. The LCD screen is bigger, the ISO limit is higher, the video resolution greater, I can zoom and focus while taking video, no red-eye on any photo yet, more presets, the macro images are stellar and the ability to leave the lens cap and the hood on, RAW image format...I am still getting familiar with the camera (bought in mid December) so there may be better features yet to discover. Right after I bought this camera I had an opportunity to take photos beside someone who was using an expensive SLR with a huge zoom lens. She could not get as “close” a shot as I could and my image looked better. She admitted she was still learning her camera, but it was zoomed as far as she could take it.The manual focus takes some getting used to as does the joystick control. I am not well educated regarding getting the best settings for the lighting conditions, but I'd like to get better indoor shots. I am a professional artist and I use my camera to take reference photos for paintings. I have been served well by the Panasonic line and have had many art related folks confirm my endorsement. The zoom, burst mode, image bracketing and battery life has been wonderful for capturing “endless” great images. Last summer I got a great shot of a bald eagle in flight that has great detail. I am eager to get this FZ28 on my kayak in the spring and take shots in a familiar setting. I know this eagle's patterns and I am hoping to get an even better shot. I am also eager to get some close-ups of flowers and such. I have a few photos posted on my website [@], but it may not do the camera justice.I would highly recommend the Panasonic line. There may be other brands that offer equally great or maybe better features, but I would be hard pressed to buy something else without being convinced it was an improvement. I use [...] to help me look over and compare cameras.[...]. Bottom line, I would recommend the camera and Abes.

I wanted a new camera because my old one was slow and just didn't fit in with todays technology. This camera takes pictures with fast speed, but you do need to make sure it's focused before you snap the picture or it'll be blurry. I'm still getting used to it. So far, so good, I'll think I'll be very happy with this camera.

Took photo's at 3 concerts since it arrived. I am amazed at the clarity of the pictures and movies at 18x or shorter using ambient light. Even though it has image stabilization, at greater than 10x you need to support the camera or you will have camera shake in your movies or blurry photo's.

I do not think there is any better super-zoom camera presently on the market.

You already read the reviews, dont waste anymore time, I have some pretty expensive cameras and equipment, this is an all around great camera in everyway...if I were to go on a trip, safari, camping, fireworks, birthday party, sporting event, you name it....I'm taking this camera first. The HD Video is really good for a still camera...not kidding ! you maybe limited to 15minutes...but hey its a still ! Zoom while recording HD Video...actually works quite well, its not going to replace a HD Video camera, but it certainly throws a scare into it...bottom line...this is the point and shoot and beyond of all cameras, have fun with it !!! best pictures ever !

I love the aperture priority and bracket exposure. Has all the controls I need to get the photos I want. Easy to use, reasonable navigation through the menus, great focus choices and great pictures. I do minor contrast edits to most photos but that is the same with my canon cameras as well. No better lens than the Leica. 28mm wide angle to 18x tele (ok not quite 18x) is more than enough for me. Small viewfinder but it works well. Couldn't be happier.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I'm not a photographer but I do use my camera like an average person would. I take action shots of my dog running in the snow, low-light conditions of the Christmas tree, bright light of a snowman in the daytime, and even hi-res of my brother's painting to be put in a magazine. I love this camera. The responsiveness of the shutter button is immediate and the time it takes to be able to take the next picture is impressive, less than 2sec (though with a faster SD card I bet the time would improve). The 18x zoom is great, it's as powerful as I'm ever going to need. The anti-shake is also excellent even at 18x. I'm excited to take this to sporting events.

I don't like using flashes in general because they wash out color and make strange shadows and this flash is no exception, HOWEVER the anti-shake is so good that the flash in low-light is often unnecessary, unless the object is moving.

This is a high quality camera for a medium quality price. I would definitely buy this camera again and recommend it to friends and family.

So far I've been very pleased with this camera. It takes nice quality photos. The plastic body can initially feel kind of cheap, but it is actually very sturdy. As a result of the plastic body, it is much more comfortable to carry around the neck. The camera has a nice selection of manual and auto controls making it quite versatile for a point and shoot camera. I'm very pleased with my purchase.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I really am sold on this new Panasonic FZ28. It has several things I want for scenic photography that my FZ50 lacks. Foremost is the wide angle - but bumping the zoom to 18X also is great - making for an incredible range covering a focal length of 27-486mm.

Other good new stuff includes the MEGA O.I.S. Image stabilization system, color EVF, Face Detection AF, and 0.39-inch Macro capabilities. Other added features include a new Venus Engine IV image processor, 10-megapixel image sensor, a larger 2.7-inch LCD, HD (1280x720, 30fps) movie mode, use of the optical zoom while recording video, an 11-point AF system, Intelligent Exposure, 50MB of internal memory, RAW and JPEG still image capture (RAW+JPEG too), in-camera "leveling" (playback option), component video output, and high-speed burst modes.

With Intelligent Auto and 22 Scene modes, this camera is easy to use as a simple point-n-shoot. Included in those 22 scene modes are five "Advanced" scene modes (Portrait, Scenery, Sports, Night Portrait, Macro), which offer several options to better define the specific shooting situation. The Q.Menu (Quick Menu) shortcut menu allows you to quickly make changes to exposure options so that you easily can blur or sharpen the backgrounds.

One simple new feature I really like is a Record/Play switch. On past models, playback mode was accessed via the mode dial. This new mode switch allows you to quickly switch back and forth with your thumb, without having to rotate the mode dial away from the current exposure mode being used.

All of the above in a camera small enough to carry in my coat pocket.

My two-year old FZ50 still has some features I like that are not available on the FZ28: hotshoe support for an external flash; a 360 degree swivel-viewer for shots at all kinds of angles; separate manual zoom and focus rings - rather than an automated system; a substantial metal body frame rather than plastic; and, a better fit and weight in my hand.

Both cameras have Leica lenses - and I can't begin to tell you what a difference that makes in picture clarity and sharpness, compared to other cameras I have owned

Which camera will I now use the most? Probably the new FZ28, from my experience so far. It can do everything I need in one easy-to-carry little machine.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I was needing both a camcorder and Camera and was hoping this would fit the bill for both. I have not used it extensively but so far I am not really happy with the video capture capability.

It has a tough time focusing when taking video and moving from scene to scene or zooming in and out. So you end up with lots of video out of focus while your waiting for the camera to adjust. Maybe I just need more training but I do not think this will cut it for a camcorder replacement. Also it saves clips as .mov but gives you no editing software or other software to enable file conversion for a DVD burn.

As far as the camera and taing pictures it is great. I am very pleased with the quality and construction.

We really love this line of Lumix cameras. This one has been great so far. We use it mostly for family pictures. The only issue we have had is that sometimes it focuses in the background, but that may be more user error that anything. We are definitely not professionals. The AI setting is usually good at picking the right settings for the pictures. The pictures that we took of my daughter's birthday are beautiful. The zoom is amazing, and overall we have been very pleased.
Abe's of Maine was great, with no hassles or attempts to upsell us on more items.

I have been through several compact long zooms starting with Canon in 2001. This is the best by far. All advertised features work pretty well. Battery life no complaints. I had to have RAW, and shooting in that mode could be faster[ this is an acceptable trade-off at this price point. All the complaints are minor considering the value price. Buy yourself a 46mm uvo filter to protect the lens and you're good to go.

To be honest I haven't used the camera that much yet, less than 500 shots, however PQ looks good so far (probably can't push it too extreme but for a "throw it in the briefcase and go" camera this is a very good piece of hardware). And the AI works very well in my opinion (just wish it worked when shooting RAW).

This is a great camera. It fits every need for me. I like to take photo's while paddling in rivers and lakes. With the stability function, it is very easy to get sharp telephoto pics. For the money, you can not beat this system. You get nearly the same results as SLR cams. Only here you save both money and weight.

Panasonic dmc-tz5 was recomended to us. I started searching the Panasonic site and found this camera. We decided to go for this one and absolutely glad we did. The zoom is great and we can capture our kids in movement!! We love the macro setting and as we learn more about the camera we love it even more! This camera is nearly perfect for what we needed. The quality is completely superior to our Sony in every manner! I am recommending this camera to anybody and everybody I know, whether they are looking for a new camera or not!

Comparing the camera's JPEG conversion to the same RW2 image was highly noticeable compression fragments and noise on screen. Shoot RW2 when image quality matters.

Grays are still more noisy than a DSLR's, but I didn't pay over $500 for this camera, and it's still manageable.

8x10s are wonderful. Haven't gone bigger though. Maybe later I will print out something bigger.

My tripod was too weak to hold this camera to look up at the moon and planets on its own. Looking straight is alright, though.

With this camera, it may be a few years before I upgrade to a DSLR.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

FZ28 is a very nice camera, the best panasonic can have in its bridge segment. All round performance at a fair price. You can't ask more from a camera having features close to an SLR but yet half its price.

This is fit camera for a person trying to learn photography and willing to go to the next step.
Photography can only be learned in steps, and this is the right camera to give the appropriate stepping stone.

Very handy yet professional. Awesome product and people should explore it fully (even beyond its iA mode - which it self is the best).

Even a casual photographer will find this very useful - reason for that - its multiple modes. Several modes bundled fantastically.

Owner would certainly enjoy this product. The best Thanks Giving gift I have gifted to myself ever. :)

Hope u would also enjoy.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I'm still not sure I have it set up properly. The instruction book seems to be comprehensive - but does not go through a 1-2-3 procedure for setting up the camera. Also, I find that I miss manual control of zoom. The camera also seems to be going through a sequence of stuff stuff I don't know about when I push the button to take a picture.

For everyday photos and also for advanced, artistic shooting. If left in intelligentAuto mode everything is very easy. You can make this camera do almost anything you want and not need to buy a more advance camera. BUT, if you want those extra settings, you have to give the menus some time and do some trial and error.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

Quality pictures and great that such a lower price camera outputs to RAW file formats. Working with original uncompressed pixel data is a plus. The only draw back is the write time even to the fastest of SDHC disks. Lower quality/res images with perhaps burst mode would be better for action shots, than raw data.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I bought this camera to replace my 4mp (12x zoom) version of the Lumix. I was surprised that the camera was smaller and lighter than my older model version, but....wow, I am so happy with it. With the earlier model, I did have some problems with low-light situations, but not with the FZ28. The AI setting is quite smart. I recently took it to the zoo and had to take quite a few pictures at the max zoom and the pictures came out beautifully. Also was taking pics thru glass (reptile cages) and again, superb pics! I am so pleased and would recommend it highly to those who would like a dsl camera, but like me, aren't ready to shell out the big bucks.

If your "pocket digital" just doesn't have the range, this is your next, and best, choice. Phenominal range for a single lens camera. Nature shots and portraits to be proud of. Burst mode will catch the snapshot to send the Grandparents. This is many times better than expected. Better pictures than my 35mm SLR's at 1/4 the weight. Add a high capacity battery and 16 Gig storage chipand shoot all day!

It's a very nice camera, I searched an read reviews, went to stores to check out of all the Mega-Zoom (Bridge) cameras and the FZ28 won hands down. I have point and shoot and SLR cameras but wanted one in between the two. The older I get the more the SLR stays behind as it's to much to haul around. Do your research and you will probably end up with one of these.

One of these days I will lay around with it and see how easy it is to use all the features.Abes had the best price [...]. Can't say that for several other pla ces that had a cheaper price but if you didn't buy all the overpriced extras they suddenly were out of stock on the camera. Fantasic value for what you get.
It's worth carrying around a slightly larger than pock-size camera to get the mega 18x zoom! It's sooo light!
Don't expect to get the low-noise pix that top end nikon and canon deliver. You get what you pay for. Great for most uses.

This camera has been great at just about everything. Focus is a bit soft and colors slightly under-saturated, but this is better than the alternative -> over-aggressive correction and overly vivid colors. Focus seeks a bit when in low-light and at the end of the tele-zoom range, but no more than comparable cameras. Lighter and less expensive than the new Canon S10 IS.

I went through many cameras, this one is excellent, because most of the time, it tracks the object and is already focused when you click. It takes a bit of time to be ready after taking the picture. Auto mode provides very good setting, and electronic view finder image looks real and not like video. Low light performance is not great, but this is expected for the sensor size. Unlike other cameras which I tried, there is no noise in dark areas in a well lit picture.

Best Uses:

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

Love this camera. Got it mainly for the big zoom lens. This one effectively goes from 27 to 486 mm. In macro mode you can get so close that the object almost touches the lens.

I found the buttons and switches to be fairly self-explanatory. Really like the simple record/playback switch, the flash pop-up button and the viewfinder/LCD button.

The image stabilization is rock solid, even at maximum magnification. I have taken pictures at 18X zoom, image stabilization on Auto mode, and got beautiful pictures simply holding the camera out in front of me without a tripod, which is incredible coming from a senior citizen.

The ability to shoot pictures in RAW mode may be desirable for some, but be forewarned, the RAW files are huge, 12,048 KB.

This camera has numerous features for those that want to experiment but I have found that the Intelligent Auto (iA) mode will likely be my favorite setting as it is able to automatically detect what mode you are in, i.e. portrait, landscape, macro, etc.

This camera will not disappoint you.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

Take this review with a grain of salt because I'm still learning all of the various features of this camera. So far, I'm really enjoying using it. Of course, anything is better than the HP point-and-shoot I was using previously. The macro setting is excellent, although it does tend to hunt for focus quite a bit. That might be user error, though. All of the scene settings that I've used so far are really good, especially the pet setting for our little dog. I like the aperture priority setting as well as the shutter speed priority setting. They both result in excellent pictures.

I find that I rarely use the flash indoors, but when I do, it's pretty overpowering. Again, that's probably my lack of knowledge on the best distance from subject to camera, but it sure does blow everything out.

As for the instruction manual: wow, that's quite a bit of information. I'm about halfway through and I don't think I can take much more. I find myself just playing around with the different settings and checking the results.

Overall, until I step up to a true D-SLR, I think the -28 will be a great little camera for me.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I bought this camera for a friend who wanted to have her broken camera replaced with the same make and model. After asking some questions in regards to usage she indicated macro capabilities as well as super zoom. This narrowed the search down to this great little camera. At first instance i advised on the previous model. This one just came out on the market and the price/feature difference made this the best choice as a replacement. After having seen the pictures she took i can honestly say this camera is a keeper.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

The FZ28 is an extraordinary camera and value. I have been collecting cameras for over 60 years and it is one of the most remarkable. The "super zoom" lens is the most remarkable in that it shows no perceptible defects at any focal length. With such an extensive feature set it is disappointing that it does not have relatively basic features such as panorama assist and time lapse.
However, when testing the camera by taking the same shots, indoors and out, with a Canon, I found the Canon captured truer color.
In that light I have reluctantly returned the camera to Abe's, but if Panasonic should improve the color fidelity I would purchase the camera again from Abe's. I have purchased another Canon in the meantime.
I enthusiastically recommend this camera to those less judgmental.

I use this for long range photos and find it extreamly effective. Great for close up too but most wild animals don`t like their pictures taken. It would be nice if once focused it would stay that way. Otherwise its the best one i have bought so far ..

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I have had several Lumix cameras and this is the best so far. The optical stabilization feature seems to work well. The extensive list of options gets a bit overwhelming and can be confusing; I end up using the auto settings more frequently than I expected. Results are good. The face recognition feature works well for getting faces in focus. The lens is slower than I would like but one with a larger aperture would add a lot of weight and expense.

Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Black Digital Camera

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

Strengths: Nice zoom and macro mode, intuitive menus, great LCD screen, comparatively light, Made in Japan, takes 8 GB SD card, inexpensive spare battery can be purchased online.

Weaknesses: Images on a soft side, image stabilization doesn't seem to be working that great, annoying lens cap.

Summary: I am an amateur photographer and I like taking camera with me almost everywhere I go. I also have my Kodak C875 8 MP pocket camera that I have used for 2 years and still enjoy. By upgrading to Panasonic DMC-FZ28K, I was hoping to get: image stabilization, bigger zoom, EVF and some additional manual controls, like white balance. I had read a lot of nice reviews before I decided to purchase this camera. I've found it, however, a bit trailing my expectations, mostly because of annoying lens cap and images lacking sharpness. Image stabilization is not as great as I though it would be, either. The biggest advantage, of course, is a great zoom that can be extended to 32X (!) in a 3 MP mode.

*********
Having said all that, I have to confess that I've used it just for a few weeks and mostly in auto mode and that I am still learning Panasonic DMC-FZ28K camera. I really hope that my best shots with this pretty cool overall camera are still ahead.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I used the FZ-18 happily but desired greater resolution, faster chip and slightly altered zoom range. I got almost all of it in this model! The length of the lens is nice, but I feel that wide angle is where the bang for the buck is. I would only improve this camera with two things, slightly better low light performance with auto-focus and noise reduction and I would sacrifice 30-40mm of telephoto for another 4-5mm of wide angle. I think the optimum would be 24mm-430mm or something. The camera is super light but feels solid and I use it backpacking a lot. A little too cumbersome for moment to moment shooting, for that I use the iA mode on my FX37 and its 25-125mm range. Very pocketable and does not attract attention as much as this larger camera.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

I bought the camera for the zoom capability because I love taking pics at baseball games. I'd had the camera a couple of days and barely knew how to use it when, in consecutive days, I went to an indoor reptile expo, Disneyland, and a nighttime baseball game. Well, I had to use all kinds of features and I was thrilled with the pics from that weekend. I've never been a better photographer. What a wonderful choice. Recently, the photos and videos and I took as "official" photographer at a weightlifting meet were the best I'd ever done. The sports action burst mode is great! I can't say enough about how much I love this camera.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

This camera has a superb 18x ultra zoom lens that makes it very versatile for both wide angle group shots to distant shots with full zoom. Outdoor shots are extremely clear and sharp. Indoor shots are excellent within the flash range. It's easy to use, has a great battery life and uses cheap & readily available high capacity SD cards.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-FZ28K Digital Camera - Black:

Great all around camera with a good zoom. I was worried about the earlier version of the camera due to Shutter Lag issues, but this one lives up to its advertising, and is fine with the lag. There are numerous different options for the photos, although sometimes it is confusing as to why in some modes you don't have access to all the options, but all in all, my favorite camera.
