Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

This camera is perfect. Has the useful 28mm lens, up to 6400 ISO (in high sensitivity mode), HD video, 460,000 pixel screen, an EZ zoom button (0 to 10 to 16x zoom with the push of a button, and lets you set a minimum shutter speed.

The TZ 1-5 use the same battery (which is useful if you are upgrading). At the current price due to it being last years model, it is unbeatable.

I highly recommend this camera.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

Very good overall camera, The Lecia Lens is the best, color rendition is perfect, very life like colors.

Cons, sometimes has hard time to focus in any zoom beyond none...but have not played with scene modes (this is only in AI mode)...as well some problem with movement (I think its due to incorrect auto select of shutter/ aperature...Need to try scene modes...should resolve this issue.

Overall great point and shoot camera for anyone...better than the Zeiss Sony W1 I had.

Great automatic focus features. Picture quality is great. Wide angle and macro settings make this an extremely versatile camera.

Great camera to "grab and go" for just about any purpose where wide-angle and zoom would be useful. Serious photographers may want a DSLR, but I'd still have this one in the "ready" position as it will perform well in most situations.

It has one of the best zoom's I have seen. I traveled recently and used my camera in dark places such as a club, in brights areas such as the beach, in the rain, while people were moving and every picture came out great. I was so happy I had purchased the camera before this vacation.
Although the battery life is short I purchased an extended life battery and use it as my main battery so I never had any problems.

Every camera is a compromise, but Panasonic has put a great package together in the TZ5. I haven't found anything else approaching the versatility and quality at this price point. The Leica lens is sharp and distortion-free and the wide angle is really useful, as is the zoom. It is small enough and rugged enough to take everywhere. Very happy with it.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

I took this camera on a spring ski vacation and only charged the battery once towards the end of the week where I took 240 photos. This camera is great at portraits and landscapes indoors and outdoors. The wide angle lens with the out standing zoom range is a blessing when getting the shot. It's only limitation is that it doesn't focus fast enough to excell at action shots.

Worth the extra $ as compared to typical point and shoot cameras.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

Read all the reviews before purchasing, and this camera meets all the expectations...good and bad.
It is heavy for its size, but that's ok...sturdy build and the great zoom lens demands the weight.
I love the zoom, and it is why I bought the camera, combined with its small size. I take photos of my paintings and the intelligent setting does a fine job. I also use for landscape/outdoor reference photos, and works great. Indoor shots are OK, but the flash does drag more than some of the "lesser" cameras I've owned. Video is nice. battery does go fast, especially if reviewing and erasing often, so i bought the back-up. Great camera overall.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

This is a very great camera for everyday use. It has a lot of features and is fast for a 10X Zoom. It has a speedy boot and flash recycle time. The only issue is the refocusing of the lenses while the zoom is used in the video mode. But, even that does not spoil the feature richness of this camera. The blue color really makes that camera stand out from the typical silver and black suites, and still does not look crazy.

This is an excellent camera in a relatively small package. Okay, it's not as small as some of its competitors, but the features and the sharp pics are worth it to us. The multiple settings let you take pics in just about any setting. And of course it'll take video clips, too. Get a fast memory card to go with it, and fire away!

Bottom Line:

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

I still haven't delved into all the features on this camera so I can't really talk to those. I already own two other digital cameras (both Canon PowerShot G_) and wanted something smaller that I could slide in my pocket. I also wanted something with a bigger screen than the older PowerShots. This fits nicely into my coat pocket but it's so heavy it feels almost as heavy as the bulky PowerShots. Still, it received such high marks from consumers, tech sites, etc., that I could not resist. I really wanted something fairly small (i.e. thin) to fit in a pocket but also wanted a high-quality camera and large LCD screen. This one has it all.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

I bought this camera a little over a month ago to replace a sony h3 that I had for about 8 months and lost. What I was looking for is a compact camera with a long optical zoom that took good enough video that I would no longer need a camcorder. After extensive reseach I decided to try this camera. I was a little apprehensive as my previous cameras have been Sony or Canon but there were too many positives about this camera to ignore. It was everything I was hoping for and more. The 10X optical zoom is GREAT and the camera is small enough to keep in my pocket. The intelligent auto function is the one I use the most and it almost always takes a great shot. If you want to use it manually you have everything to do that as well. There are some excellent in-camera editing tools as well. The picture quality is remarkable. I have already taken over a thousand pictures between Christmas and a vacation I just came back from. The camera also takes wonderful videos and I LOVE the fact that you can zoom while taking an HD video! My only complaint about the camera is that the image and video quality are not as good at night, which is pretty much the case with most cameras. Long story short, you will LOVE this camera!

What a combination, wide angle pics with the option of high def video. This small camera packs a real punch. I'm just a casual picture taker, but this is the first wide angle lens I have ever had on a camera, how cool!! You can't miss any shot! And the video feature is so nice. I thought about getting a Flip until I saw this camera, has the best of both worlds!!

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

This is one of the best and easiest cameras in the market. It includes easy to use software which compliments product well.
Only one problem I encountered was that the lens fogs up when entering a warm indoor place when it is freezing outside. Camera needs time to adjust to climate change. After that lens is clear to shoot indoors. This would be camera if it had an anti-fogging lens built in. I guess that will be the next step for this type of camera. It is still better than those 3x optical cameras offered. The video recording zooming feature did not blur! My 3x optical has blurry closeups. 10x is an excellent optical zoom which is not bulky like competator's. Seen higher prices of this product at competing stores.

Bottom Line:

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

After a lot of research I narrowed my choices down to this camera and another by Fuji. The Panasonic won due to its great optical zoom and the ability to record HD video. The Panasonic is easy to use out of the box and has plenty of features for more experienced photographers to play with. I've found it very handy to be able to take lots of pictures at family gatherings and then easily taking small video clips to more completely document the occasion. It's great to be able to zoom while taking video as well.

The camera takes great pictures. I had a 10MP Pentax previously, but I chose the 9MP Panasonic because of the 10x optical zoom. Can't tell the difference in image resolution, and I've got 2+ times more zoom than before.

I've purchased 3 cameras from AbesOfMaine over the last 4 years. They have some great deals!

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

So far this has been an awesome purchase. I did a lot of research on this camera vs. the Canon that shot in HD movie mode and I chose this one due to the reviews. I have been very impressed with what I got. I can't wait to take some great holiday pics with it. If you do some serious searching you can find video samples on the internet that are great samples of what this camera can do. For a simple point and click, this camera is amazing.

A quick disclaimer...I am an amateur when it comes to photography and use a camera solely for pictures ofthe family and the occasional sunset. I am by no means an expert opinion. With that being said, when I compare this camera to my Sony that I purchased a year ago, the leaps in technology are very evident, especially with the video.

Once again, this is a point and shoot palm size camera.

This is the second TZ-5A I've purchased[...]. The first was for my wife. She loved hers so much that I got this one for my daughter in law.I can't over emphasize the 10x optical zoom and the image stabilization. You'll never again wish you could get a closer shot of wildlife or something else off in the distance. This is our first camera with image stabilization. We've cut down on our blurry pictures substantially. All that and the super compact size. We slip our camera into our jacket pocket so that we have it everywhere. This camera fits the bill there. My wife is not a technical person at all. When I buy a new product, I touch it and see if I can figure out how to use it within 20 seconds. If I can, then it is simple enough for my wife to not get frustrated. This camera cetainly fits the bill. And I'm ignoring the 30FPS standard def and high def video. That's real video.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

I use this camera primarily to take pictures of my family. I have two boys so they are very active. The wide angle on this camera is excellent, as is the 10X zoom. I like the image stabilization aid in the high zoom range. Don't bother taking pictures with the internal memory as it is quite slow to write. However with a fast memory card it is a very quick camera compared with others of its type. The intelligent auto seems to make many of my pictures have a yellow tinge so I often just use the other settings. In intelligent auto also there is no way to turn red-eye reduction flash off, and I can't use it because my young boys think the first flash means the picture is over and then ruin the shot. I am just a layman camera user, not a hobbyist or a professional, so please take my review as such. However this is the 4th digital camera I have owned since 2000, two kodak and one canon. I was not a fan of the canon SD1000.

Great compact camera, best picture quality as I have used other brands before and hands down this one has the best picture quality. It's all in the lens, sure it looks bigger; however that's what makes the picture quality so great. Another great feature is the HD Movie; no need to bring your camcorder as the quality is the same as any camcorder out there. You just need a bigger SD card if you want to shoot movies.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

P&S camera's were created for people like me and my wife. We wanted a smaller pocketable camera, with a better than 3x zoom, and would not force us to become photographers in order to use the camera and get good shots. We decided upon the DMCTZ5 over the Canon SD880, most based on form factor and the way it felt in our hands. The iA (intelligent Auto) mode on the camera does give us the best shot in most situations. Looking at the Panasonic forum on dpreview, I knew this camera was capable of taking great shots. So in the times that iA doesn't work so well, we're learning, slowly, how to better compose a shot to get great shots all the time. The screen size is great, and sharp. HD video is very nice. And we love the 10x zoom. Low light is decent once you learn how to do it, its not always easy. Fast/Sports is also quite good once you learn how to do it, as iA doesn't always do it best.

This is a fun point-and-shoot camera. I love the 10X optical zoom and large view screen. It has many features that are fun, like red-eye reduction and face tracking -- which you can also turn off if you don't like them. It's small enough for my purse, without sacrificing zoom or resolution. I do find the pre-flash red-eye thing a little annoying, but I can turn that off. There is no view finder, only the view screen. Very easy to use.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

Great to so semi-pro photographing, graphic designing, day to day picture taking. It has a tonne of features, most amazing the 10X zoom and digital zoom. The e-zoom button is handy when u want to get up close to the action!!!!! It has a good amount of scene settings.

Positives:

For the casual photographer, just leave it on th "ia"(intelligent auto) settings, and all your photos will come out quite good. For the more pro photographer, it has a decent amount of settings for you to play around with to get the right setting for you to take your shot.

Negatives:

It does not photograph well in dark light, photos can come out noisy anywhere above ISO 400 setting. It can be hard to use with one hand. But most upsetting, is the poor placement of the microphone. This may dissuade people from taking video, and that is a shame, because the hd video recording is simply gorgeous!.

I hope this review helps someone out there. Thanks to Abes of Maine. I am an international customer and your service was superb and I will be making more purchases in the future.

This is the third Panasonic TMZ-class camera I've bought. I gave my first to my daughter, and when it was stolen gave my replacement to her and bought the TZ5. I've always loved the clarity of the Leica lens and the big zoom factor - it allows for controlled depth of field effects that most point-an-shoots can't get. The TZ5 has a bit faster lens, which helps that even more. Still wish I could control the beast a little more manually, but I love that I can slip that gooood lens in my pocket and take it anywhere.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

The camera is just great! I am an amateur, so I was looking for some new camera to replace my old 3Mpix Pentax.
1. Good image stabilization + fast focus - in bad conditions (low light etc) my old camera was focusing long & many photos were not sharp. This Panasonic is excellent: fast & sharp pics
2. Series photos: I have tried it when I was on Santana concert. I was using the max. optical zoom and just shooting the photos & most of these were ok
3. Optical zoom - what a relief to have 10x instead of 3x
4. Movies - not excellent quality, but fantastic as for the photo camera
5. Battery - lasts forever!

Obviously, my brother's Sony Alpha makes slightly better photos, but he spend about 8x more for the camera+lenses+accessories.
If you are looking for easy & good photos - the Panasonic is the right choice for you!

Best Uses:

Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

Flimsy shutter cover requires camera case all the time. While loading and unloading this camera into and out of its case the setting dial is often changed causing an undesired setting to be used. The dial seems unnecessarily loose. I've lost a lot of shots this way.

The optics for this camera are a mixed blessing. They provide a great zoom but also have a tendency to take a long time to focus. The macro option on this camera is awful. This probably my biggest complaint. Up-close shots of flowers or insects never come out in focus.

Camera does seem to take nice photos otherwise. Intelligent auto does do a great job with getting good shots various light. The viewing screen on the back is fantastic.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

I've been a fan of the Casio line of compact zoom cameras for awhile so I took a chance when I saw the great specs on this camera. The 10x optical zoom is phenomenal for a compact camera, this came in really handy at the zoo to get great closeups of the animals. The wide field of view is also terrific, which allows you to capture your subject without having to stand 20 feet away. The downside to a high resolution camera with a big zoom lens is some degree of shutter lag, while the camera focuses but the picture quality if worth it in my opinion. There is no viewfinder but the screen is a pleasure to use and is easily viewable in bright light. The intelligent automatic (ia) setting turns this into a great point and shoot, camera, while the manual settings let you get crafty with shot. All in all, a fun camera to use for family photos or scenery shots.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

With a bit of playing and experiments, I was able to tweak a few controls (ISO and shutter) in the manual mode, but I still feel like I am missing the ability to tweak the settings to work more in my needs.
I take a lot of low light shots and when trying to do that with a backlight, it is just not possible.
Any of the "every day" shots of my 4 year old, the house, pets, etc are perfect in every way.
The video setting are great, just try not to zoom (either direction) when shooting video.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

The great lens is what made the final decision between the Canon 870IS and the TZ5. I found I really missed a viewfinder when trying to capture action shots at an airshow. I managed to get some good shots, but missed many as well. There seemed to be something like shutter lag when trying to track the aircraft using movie mode, but it may have been a setting I had chosen. I would get a still image when I pressed the shutter button and then it would start recording. By then I had lost the target, especially difficult at 10X. Otherwise I'm quite pleased with the camera.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

Great for people-related photos. I find the totally-automatic settings to be unreliable in scenes with both deep shadows and bright light, but that problem can be easily addressed with choosing different settings (easily done). Settings are easy to use, ditto menu selections. I love this camera with its great lens.

Panasonic Lumix DMCTZ5A - A Brief Review

Bottom Line:

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

I did hours of research before picking the Lumix. I bought it specifically for a vacation my wife and I took to French Polynesia. We toured the islands on a sailing ship (the Star Flyer) and I wanted a camera with excellent wide angle and telephoto features, reasonable cost and a good lens. The Lumix met and exceeded all my needs and expectations. It has excellent wide angle capability and much better than average telephoto range. I took hundreds of photos and was very pleased with its performance. I was unexpectedly surprised by its low-light and macro capabilities as well. I sell a lot of items on [...] am now using it for close-up photography for[...]sales and it has also replaced a Canon Digital Elf as my everyday camera for both [...] and personal use. I found its menus to be logical and relatively intuitive. Great camera for the money and, I believe, perhaps the most versatile compact digital on the market today.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

After my trusty Canon SD700IS took a dive into concrete, I needed a replacement point and shooter that was just as easy to use as it was capable of good photos. Used mainly for vacation and family party photos, it had to be simple enough for the wife to use, while still retaining some customizable settings for me to play with when I felt like being creative.

My old Canon's UI seemed spot-on to me, so I was a little leery on trying a different brand, but I heard many good things about the Panasonic TZ5A, and saw enough sample photos that showed it was capable of taking good photos, even better than the latest Canon P&S, that I decided to take the plunge.

UI-wise, Auto mode has been great for my wife. But for me, who does have some photography background, I was used to changing ISO settings quickly with the ISO button on my previous Canon, so I am a little annoyed that the ISO settings on the TZ5 are buried in a menu that isn't as intuitive to get to and navigate. Cycling through flash settings takes you to a menu too, so getting a customized setting together for a quick shot can be tricky. The amount of settings offered, however, is great. Just be prepared to dive into menus.

Picture-quality wise, the shots from this camera look gorgeous, so long as there is adequate lighting. I personally think that the gorgeous picture quality makes up for any annoyances that the UI gives me. As with most digital P&S cameras, they don't do great in low light, so I wasn't expecting anything great in those situations, and this camera is pretty average in that respect.

I have an 8GB card in the camera, and had troubles with the camera recognizing the card at first, even though the card was ok in my PC. After re-inserting the card and cycling power, I got it to work. I've gotten maybe one other instance of a card recognition error since then, but another power cycle fixed that. Just something for other users to keep in mind if they run into the same problem.

The camera's build is nicely balanced and looks very attractive. I've gotten a lot of comments similar to "wow, what a fancy camera." Keep in mind the location of the flash, though, as your finger is likely to cover it while holding the camera.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

I take pictures of my garden and orchids, and the close up works great and the anti shake as well. I also take many vacation pictures and the lense allows a much better panorama picture. The scene high speed bursts takes great action pictures in good lighting. My last digital camera had 2 levels of flash, the self timer could take 3 pictures and the battery lasted longer, all of which which I miss. But the more I read the manual and play with the panasonic, I find it has many good qualities and I rate it a 4 star.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

This is a great little camera. Love the wide angle and the big 10X zoom. People that look at the pictures on my camera can't believe the high resolution 3" screen. Takes great video but the microphone doesn't do a good job of picking up the sound. It's a shame. If it did I wouldn't even own a video camera. I'd just use this. Wind noise is bad too and drowns out what sound you do get if it is windy. But as a camera, it takes great pictures, you can get the whole room in there with the wide angle or zoom to 10X. It also has the big zoom on the video and you can zoom while shooting video. I had the TZ50 before this one and really liked it, but this one is a big jump up from that one. It also had a poor microphone. If they would put a good mic on this thing it would be a 10. I'd still buy another one if this one ever broke.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

10x optical zoom gets the shots you'd miss with other cameras and image stabilization allows you to do it without a tripod. Low-light not too good, I was disappointed that reducing resolution from 9MP to 3MP did not seem to improve light sensitivity, only gives you more zoom. Movies are good but mic location makes it easy to cover mic with left index finger, killing the sound. And no, I can't teach my wife to "feel for the bump" that was placed on the camera so you know where not to put your finger.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

28 mm wide angle, 10 x optical zoom, Leica lens, optical image stabilization and the novel Intelligent Auto Mode leave all the other pocket-sized cameras in the dust. Only a DSLR can outshine the DMC-TZ5, but at a steep price, weight and size penalty. The only drawback noticed is that I could never reach the 300 promised pictures from one battery charge.

Comments about Panasonic DMC-TZ5A Digitial Camera - Blue:

My wife used the TZ5 on a five week trip to Europe. She had been using a Cannon Rebel Xi but found it too heavy to carry all day. Also, the excellent zoom range of the TZ5 could not be duplicated with the Rebel without also carrying supplementary zoom lenses.
Color fine. Have not tried large enlargements so don't know, but images look good on computer screens and TV.
After using four cameras over the last several years, she is very happy with the TZ.

We use this camera on travel, around the house and for business, taking pictures of properties inside and out. It does it all quite nicely, and the HD movies are a big bonus, I can't wait to take it skiing.

Be warned though,if you take full resolution pics at 9M pixels, it will fill up your SD card, and then it will fill up you hard drive unless you stay on top of weeding and editing.
