I'd use my DSLR for the shots that I really want high quality or require speed and zoom, etc. But for a pocket camera that I can take with my family easily anywhere - this camera lives up to expectations and reviews. The photo quality is good, it's relatively fast (for competitive products), it's easy to use, and easy to carry. I am happy with this purchase. It's what I was looking for - at the price point I was looking for.

I have owned olympus products before but I am impressed with the photos and wide angle lense of this panasonic. Good battery life with non stock battery. I like its adjustable flash it works very well. Quite a bit larger file size with 12 meg pics.I recommend the high speed memory it Helps the camera be faster inbetween shots.

I use this for casual photos at family get-togethers and on trips. We have a Canon 40D SLR with multiple lenses but the Panasonic can be carried on my belt or in a pocket so it's ready at a moments notice. Great for those photo opportunities that are gone quickly.

I purchased this camera for my daughter as a Christmas gift. She had a Cool-Pix camera that she absolutely loved. Unfortunately, she dropped it and broke it. She liked that camera so well, she contemplated getting it fixed for over twice what it was worth.
I am pleased to say, after having this new camera for just a little over a week, she loves this new Panasonic DMC-ZR1. It takes wonderful pictures, is much faster than her older Cool-Pix camera. She has all but forgotten about her older Cool-Pix camera that she loved so much.
On New Year's Eve our family went out in the snow to go sledding with friends of ours. The camera was used a lot. The pictures it took were fantastic. Several action shots along with dozens of other shots of all of us huddled around the bonfire. One more thing I want to point out is the zoom. It works amazingly well for such a small camera, nice clear pictures.
Yes, it does have its limits. After-all, it's not a pro camera but for the occasional family camera that you can throw in your pocket or purse you can't go wrong with this camera.
It's still relatively new so I can't comment on the longevity of this camera but so far, so good.

Great camera in a small package. Almost the same size as our old FX9. Very wide angle to usable telephoto. Antishake is excellent allowing good pictures in low light or at high zoom. Fits well in my large hand, but need to be careful not to cover focus assist light with left hand. Could do a bit better at high ISOs. Ia mode (intelligent automatic) a bit too limiting at times, but still very good.
