Comments about Pentax OPTIO W80 Waterproof Digital Camera - Red:

This camera serves our needs well. We had to replace a broken Canon S410 4MP camera and were happy to find this waterproof little bargain. While it doesn't take the high quality photos of a Canon Powershot G11, it's less than half the price and is able to be taken places one wouldn't want to take a G11. So it's a good choice.

We intend to use it for everyday picture taking around the house and typical family events. We also intend to use it when going snowboarding, (rare) trips to the beach and on hikes and such. I also plan to take it fly fishing. While I don't intend to submerge the camera much, having the waterproofing in case something does happen is nice.

It does better taking pictures in outdoor and well lit conditions. Dark indoor photos, when viewing zoomed in, can turn out to be a bit noisy with red and green pixels as the noise.

The video looks good and is a nice plus.

It's waterproof.

It's fairly easy to use and the controls make sense.

I do wish it took a bit better pictures but it will suffice. Oh and did I mention it's waterproof?

Nice little camera, easy to carry and should be hard to break (don't want to test that part). The option memu is nice, but there are so many options that you should not think of this camera as a point and shoot.

Comments about Pentax OPTIO W80 Waterproof Digital Camera - Red:

I recently got this camera and took few pictures at home, the actual time that I tried was on my wedding anniversary dinner. I should have brought the K20D that I bought also from Abe's of Maine, that would have been great.. W80 pictures taken in this nice restaurant turned out to be really grainy and off color, pictures give the impression that they were taken with 1st generation of digital cameras with perhaps 300 pixel resolution..
I tried few modes including auto/green, night, bulb etc and auto/green was the better of those but that was grainy and the colors were skewed to red/yellow, pointing AWB issues possibly. I did not have the chance to play with its setting in detail yet, I am going to spend some time on it and I am going to take this camera for more tests outdoor, indoor etc and if it continued to perform this way, I will return it.

Comments about Pentax OPTIO W80 Waterproof Digital Camera - Red:

This camera has worked great so far. Easy menu and fast mode changes including flash settings. The only thing I would like is some type of lens cover such as the opening and closing cover on my old Olympus I lost. I use the camera outdoors mainly, and I'm leary of scratching the glass covering the lens on the Optio, so I'm hoping it's hard glass.

Comments about Pentax OPTIO W80 Waterproof Digital Camera - Red:

I just got the camera a couple weeks ago, for a vacation, so have not had a lot of experience with it yet. Also, we are stepping up from a very old digital camera so are fairly easy to impress with features. All camera's have their issues, this one is no exception. So far getting a sharp, well focused picture has required more effort than I had anticipated and my only issue with the camera. I didn't expect that a flash picture in moderate light might show blurring, but frequently do. Given that, the quality of the camera so far is very good and when I stop and am very still the images are quite good. I have not yet tested the waterproofing, etc. The various modes are fun to play with. The camera is very easy to handle and pocket, but probably a bit small for my hands.
