I'm very happy with the DCS-T500. This is by far the best compact digital camera I own and I have had 4 of them in the last 3 years. I will use this when I don't want to lug around my DSLR. The picture quality is outstanding, and the HD video is pretty decent. The only thing it lacks is lighting options for the video, so you always have to make sure there is sufficient light. But, I guess that is the trade-off for the compact size.

The second day I got the camera I dropped it on the concrete! It only suffered a few scratches and still works perfectly.
I took it skiing and took HD films of jumps and rock drops. Battery did not last long in the cold, but I was able to get all the shots that I wanted. The HD looks great. People on the slopes look like specs until you zoom way in to the picture to see that they are holding ski poles.

This product is easy to use and have good picture quality for casual use. I am totally satisfied at this moment.

This camera can go and be put anywhere to grab quickly. Internal zoom lens is super. Only thing is you just can't take those spur of the moment pics because of the lag time. I don't regret picking this out now that I'm getting familiar with the touch screen vs. actual dials and buttons I loved about my last camera which I also took everywhere. That's the important part to me, having it with me mostly all the time.

Switch off the digital zoom for good picture.
Sports mode is not that perfect when taken picture for moving objects.

I bought the T500 because I wanted HD video without having to carry around a big video camera. I was amazed with the video quality. It is crystal clear compared to my regular digital camcorder. The autofocus and zoom both work while taking video unlike the video on my Panasonic and Olympus digital cameras. The video was good even inside in very low light. The HD video can be edited in most new video editing programs as long as your computer is very fast. The videos are .mp4 files which are difficult to view on a computer. I have been saving them as HD .wmv files which are easier to save, view and upload to internet sites. As a camera the pictures are better than both my other digital cameras. Good in low light, outdoors, everywhere. The antishake feature works well. The battery life is poor so you will need at least two. It has a very large, high quality touch screen. Playing back video and slide shows is very impressive. It will play music during the show and can even automatically edit the video and play it back with interesting trasitions. The pictures and videos play back together as a show and can be viewed on an HD tv if connected with an HDMI cable(not supplied). I usually watch the video on an HD TV connected to my computer. [@]

I bought the DSC T500 as a secondary point-and-shoot camera that also allows me to record HD-quality movies (I already own a Nikon SLR). The HD-quality video doesn't disappoint, it really is as good as advertised...though the 720p quality isn't on the same level as your typical 1080p HD tv channel, it still is excellent and totally blows away the resolution typically seen on non-HD tv channels. Unfortunately, I was able to see every little imperfection on my complexion on our 50" HDTV! I can't speak much on the quality of photos, the few pics I've taken so far appear to look just as good as any taken on a high quality point-and-shoot camera (though not in the same league as pics taken on a digital SLR). Big drawbacks are (1) low battery life (I bought two extra ones); and (2) ridiculously overpriced memory sticks (a 16GB memory stick costing over an additional +$100 is indispensable if you plan on taking advantage of the HD-movie recording abilities of the camera).One final note: I was a first-time buyer from Abe's and found them overall to be great..[...]
