I purchased my EOS Rebel XS just a week before leaving on a whale-watching cruise in Mexico. It was pressed into immediate service, the instruction manual was really clear and helpful, and I was taking great shots immediately. The fast shutter speed (3+ shots per second) was perfect for catching whales, sea lions, dolphins, birds, and other wildlife as they moved quickly through my field of vision. There was nothing I did not like about this camera.

Well, I have only had this camera for a few days,but I am very happy with it. The price is very reasonable and affordable.This also is my first SLR having owned several point and shoot film and digital. The only "negative" about this camera is the "Live View". I see this as nothing more than a selling point aimed at point and shoot users. You cannot use the live view in full auto setting, you have to be in one of the manual settings. You cannot use the shutter button for auto focus (read the review on [@]), I don't want to go into a long explaination here. The view finder is very easy to see and use for taking pics so I probably wont be using live view except maybe to compose a tripod shot,take it out of live view and take the shot.The 18-55mm IS kit lens is really a very good lens and I have no complaints about it. Focus is fast and the image stabilizer is great.

The Canon Rebel XS is a great camera for the money. The lens included 18-55 has image stabilization but the Zoom 70-300 doesn't. I wish I had waited to get the IS Zoom. This camera was highly rated in Consumer Reports and lives up to the rating. It even looks great though that isn't a major consideration. I like the Canon logo on the strap which also looks classy. I really like this SLR viewfinder camera because that was what I learned on. I'm looking forward to taking fantastic photographs with this camera.

I bought this camera for my wife. It's a great start-up, basic DSLR. User-friendly, nice picture quality. The 75-300mm lens could really use Image Stabilization and the optics are not very good quality, but good enough for a casual/beginner photographer. Otherwise an all-around great package and good deal.
